It is celebration time at Tata Motors as the company has just achieved a major sales milestone. TMPVL (Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd) has cumulatively sold 2.5 lakh electric cars till now, which is quite a commendable task in a country where ICE vehicles are prominent and EVs are still in nascent stage.
Tata EV Sales Cross 2.5 Lakh Units
In India’s broader EV landscape, Tata Motors has been the major volume pusher as 2/3rds of all EVs sold in India cumulatively till date have come from Tata Motors. In effect, Tata Motors has played a pivotal role in pushing India’s EV boundaries and has brought India’s electric car segment from fringes to mainstream.
To date, Tata Motors have sold 2.5 lakh electric cars, accounting for around 66% of all EVs sold in the Asian subcontinent. Nexon EV is India’s first electric car to cross 1 lakh units cumulative sales and accounts for a major chunk of Tata’s total EV sales. Punch EV is another heavy hitter from Tata and one of India’s best-selling EVs as well.
Currently, TMPVL one of the, if not, the largest electric car portfolio in India consisting of Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Punch EV, Nexon EV, Curvv EV and Harrier EV for passenger market and XPRES-T EV for commercial and fleet operators.
Five New EVs Incoming By FY30
Even though Tata has India’s largest EV portfolio, the company is keen on expanding it further with as many as five new EVs incoming by FY30. These include new models and updates to current models. While these are long term promises, Tata is also making promises for new EVs in CY26 too.
Promised for CY26 include new Punch EV, Sierra EV and Avinya. Punch EV is set for an update which will launch in 2026. An electric version of India’s most anticipated car launch, Sierra, is also slated to launch in 2026 and then Tata is promising Avinya to come out in 2026 as well, which is a new nameplate for Tata Motors.
Statement from Tata Motors
Celebrating these accomplishments, Shailesh Chandra, MD & CEO, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd said, “Crossing 250,000 EV sales reflects how electric mobility is fast becoming part of everyday Indian life. Our customers are driving more, travelling farther, and increasingly trusting EVs as their only cars. Our EV journey which began in 2018, was never about leading alone but about building the ecosystem to enable India’s transition to clean mobility.
This progress is the outcome of the government’s forward-thinking policies, the steadfast support of our supplier partners and charging infrastructure providers and above all, the trust and enthusiasm of TATA.ev customers. As EV adoption accelerates, our commitment remains clear: to mainstream electric mobility by making it accessible across segments, strengthening the ecosystem.
