Tata Nexon Electric Joins Indian Air Force Fleet – Official

Wide ranging initiatives designed to encourage EV adoption in India; IAF commits to green mobilityTata Nexon Electric Joins Indian Air Force FleetOver time a range of initiatives have been introduced to make green mobility a mainstream objective. In the past this has included an effort to introduce a larger number of EVs as part of government fleets used for official purposes.State and Central government initiatives point to rebates to those buying EVs. The 2-wheeler industry is now interspersed with a large number of new age auto tech companies selling a wide range of e-scooters. Public transport systems have witnessed a growing reliance on public buses. Even e-commerce fleets are turning to small sized electric CVs to manage last mile connectivity and dispatches within cities.Indian Air Force flags off first fleet of EVsOver time, the charging network has grown to put customers at ease. And now, the Indian Air Force is reaffirming its green footstep initiatives. The IAF this week flagged of its first fleet of EVs in aligning with long-term goals of environment friendly mobility. With this, the IAF begins its procurement of e-vehicles. Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari was present to flag off the first 12 EVs. This fleet comprises of Tata Nexon EVs. As procurement picks up pace, charging infrastructure would be set up across air force bases. The current fleet is to be deployed in Delhi NCR for the purposes of performance monitoring and analysis.Tata Nexon Electric Joins Indian Air Force FleetThe scope of EVs that could be sold in India has potential. As a nation, the number of two-wheelers sold in the domestic market is up in lakhs each month. Car sales too have continued to improve in small increments when calculating cars per 1,000 people. This is further backed by improved scope of bank loans. With our commitment to the environment being a personal one, there’s a growing number of people who see merit in EVs over Ice vehicles. Whether this be on account of convenience, regular maintenance costs, upkeep costs, fuel costs or any other reasons, EV sales are enjoying a green period. The future of EVS in IndiaThis obviously stems from the fact that EV sales in past years have been painfully slow, and as such current calculations benefit off the back of low base sales. With infra improvement and an increase in conversations around EV adoption, a stronger base is being created.Tata Nexon Electric Joins Indian Air Force FleetWhere electric cars are concerned, there’s a whole new world to be explored. Unlike other southeast asian nations, India hasn’t yet begun exploring small electric family cars that could become the go to under the right policies. More

Tata Nexon EV Owner Shares Cost Details After 85,000 Km

When service costs are taken into account, Nexon EV running cost turns up to Rs. 1.58 to cover a kmNexon EV Charging Cost Shared By OwnerWe all know that Nexon EV has been a runaway success. This was the first electric SUV in India that offered a decent balance between range, performance and price. Nexon’s 5-star crash safety rating doesn’t hurt either. It was based on an already well-received ICE product and hence familiarity was one of its strong points too.Despite EV tech being new in India, it is growing at a decent pace. A Nexon EV owner, Manu M has shared a comprehensive breakup of expenses that he incurred to run his EV for 85K km. His views reflect ours when we made a comparison between EVs and petrol hatchbacks.Nexon EV Running Cost Breakdown by Owner84,995 km to be precise. That’s how much Manu M has covered in a span of two years of ownership. This averages to 114 km per day. When stabilizer losses are excluded, Manu M has consumed 11262.8 kWh of energy. Which gives us 132.51 Wh/km of energy consumption per km. Hence range covered with 1 kWh of charge is 7.55 km. Still not bad, we should say.Excluding stabilizer losses, total cost incurred to charge his vehicle to cover 85K km is Rs. 95,681. Which yields a charging cost per km of just Rs. 1.13. Including stabilizer losses, we get more realistic numbers. He claims that he has consumed 10983.22 kWh of electricity to charge his EV to cover said 85K km. This figure includes slow chargers, also fast chargers and stabilizer losses as well.Nexon EV Charging CostThe owner has taken Rs. 9.28 as the cost per kWh in Kerala. When calculated, he has spent Rs. 1,01,686 for charging the batteries to cover 85K km. Charging cost per km is Rs. 1.2 and energy consumption per kWh is 129.22 Wh/km. This gives us a range of 7.74 km per kWh of battery capacity.Service Costs for EVsSince there are significantly less moving parts, EVs require significantly less maintenance. Owner Manu M has provided valuable info regarding EV maintenance. He reports a total of Rs. 32,375 spent on maintaining the car. We say car, because like ICE vehicles there are few parts required to keep it running despite being an EV.Manu M reports transaxle oil change after the first 7,000 km, which never recurs. He seems to have changed transmission oil every 30,000 km interval. Rest of the costs involve regular shenanigans like wheel alignment, wheel balancing, washing, brake fluid and so on. None of these are really expensive. Excluding optional services like foam washing, AC disinfectant and others, he reports a total cost of Rs. 28,976.Nexon EV Service CostWhen servicing costs are taken into account along with charging costs, we land on a figure of Rs. 1.58 per km traveled. Which is really economical when compared to petrol or diesel-powered alternatives. Tiago EV, which was recently launched, is likely to make 4W EV more accessible to customers as it comes at a lower price point. More

New Volvo EX90 Electric SUV Debuts – 480 Kms Range, Autonomous Driving

With a dual motor setup, Volvo EX90 SUV’s 111 kWh battery promises 480 km of range from a single chargeVolvo EX90 SUV DebutsSwedish brand, Volvo is synonymous with safety. The company has its roots firmly held in place in making family cars that are safe to the core. Volvo doesn’t shy away from demonstrating its safety aspects in innovative ways as well. For years, Geely-owned Volvo is neck deep in developing self-driving tech as well.In the push towards EV future, Volvo has promised one EV launch each year till the end of the decade. By that time, Volvo aims to only sell electric cars. In the company’s portfolio, this is equivalent in size and appeal to an XC90.Volvo EX90 SUV DebutsEX90 debuted in Stockholm today and it embodies Volvo’s design DNA and stays true to Volvo’s ethos. Some of which are minimalism, safety and progression. Volvo even claims that EX90 is their safest vehicle to date, thanks to tech that is set to get smarter and safer over time.Design-wise, it looks like what an electrified version of XC90 would look like. It ain’t no bad thing as XC90 had some of the best road presence despite being smaller than full-size SUVs like Cadillac Escalade. Front fascia now gets a closed-off grille and its whole minimalist design exudes class and sophistication.Volvo EX90 SUV 3-rowThor’s hammer DRLs now extend downwards and neatly merges into its bumper. Side-profile and rear profile are kept simple and are not likely to split opinions. Now might be the best time to address the elephant in the room. Volvo EX90 SUV comes with a bulb on top of its roof that houses its cameras, sensors, radars and other computing elements. It reminds us of the Black cabs of London, but this seems to be a conscious choice from Volvo. This position allows for a constant 360-degree view and spots objects and potential threats from hundreds of meters. EX90 SUV is the first vehicle from Volvo to come fitted with all necessary hardware to facilitate “unsupervised driving” in the future.Powertrain & FeaturesLike other Volvos, EX90 is starkly minimal and its center stage is a portrait-oriented 14.5” touchscreen system powered by Google software and has 5G connectivity and a phone key too. A landscape-oriented display forms its instrument console. The bulb gathers real-time data which is processed from a Snapdragon processor and visualised by Unreal Engine, a 3D tool on which many AAA game titles are also based.Volvo EX90 SUV InteriorEX90 is the first Volvo to get headrest-integrated speakers (usually associated with convertible cars) as a part of Bowers & Wilkins system. Owing to Volvo EX90 SUV’s massive size, a 111 kWh battery is offered which is based on a new platform. It makes 496 bhp of power and 910 Nm of torque from a dual motor setup.Company claims 300 miles (480 km) of range on a single charge. It is not yet certified though. There is no official charging power number. Volvo claims 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes from a fast charger, of course. Exact pricing is not known. However, Volvo states that a “well-equipped” trim will cost under $80,000 (approx Rs 65.34 lakh). Pre-orders are open and will be delivered in 2024. More

Jeep Classic SUV Goes Electric – Debuts As A Concept

Jeep CJ series is one of the most iconic car model the world as seen – It was on sale in India as well, thanks to MahindraJeep Classic SUV – CJ Goes ElectricThe Jeep Classic was in production from 1944 to 1986. It is what paved the way for the modern day Wrangler. The current Jeep Wrangler is the spiritual successor to the Jeep CJ Classic from last century. Now, the Classic Jeep SUV has made a comeback of sorts at the 2022 SEMA Show.Jeep CJ Surge Concept is currently on display at 2022 SEMA Show. It has been developed by Mopar – a performance and accessories division owned by Stellantis. Mopar says this is a concept for future propulsion systems for enthusiasts to convert classic cars and current cars into EVs. Looking at the Jeep CJ Surge Concept, we say it is a job well done.Jeep CJ Classic Electric SUVSo what’s pumping under the hood? A big V8 lump of an engine that displaces 7L or 8L and makes enough power to pull a cow? Actually, no. There is sensibility in this build, which is unlike many American products. This Jeep CJ Surge Concept is an electric vehicle. It has a battery pack in its boot and custom motor mounts under its hood (not calling it a bonnet, coz it is American). In the long run, this is a very sensible concept by Mopar and one that should be brought to production immediately. America is the second-largest automotive market in the world. Car modding culture in America is like second nature. Buying a classic car and plonking a Chevy LS1 engine or something similar in it is a common sight.Jeep Classic SUV – CJ Goes ElectricMany 4W and 2W manufacturers sell their engines for swaps and builds, keeping this modding culture booming. EV conversion kits like this would make more sense as we head into the future. Wouldn’t you say?Specs & FeaturesJeep CJ Surge Concept EV gets a 400V scalable electric drive module that is capable of making 268 bhp. This motor sends power to all 4 wheels via a 2-speed transfer case with selectable gearing. Providing juice to this motor, we have 24 Li-ion battery modules that form its battery pack that can hold up to 50 kWh worth of capacity. It gets a 2” lift-kit, obviously. Enhancing its go-anywhere-ability, we have Dana 44 Crate axles by Jeep Performance Parts. Jeep CJ Surge Concept rides on colossal 35” BF Goodrich AT tyres that give it a lot of presence. The essence of its donor Jeep is kept intact and in fact, Mopar has added to it. We can see Wrangler JK Rubicon bumpers, Warn winch, LED headlights and more.Insides get an overhaul too with a center console derived from Wrangler JK Rubicon. Custom seats, a roll cage, trimmed windshield add to the aesthetics and make this a proper vintage, yet modern Jeep. Finished in a Copper Canyon shade with Surf Blue accents, Jeep CJ Surge Concept is instantly recognisable as a Jeep from a mile away. More
