Electric Car Owner Requests Company To Take The EV Back

Tata Nexon EV ownerProspective EV buyers in India should thoroughly research use cases and expectations from their new electric car before falling head-first into EV realmWoes of EV owners in India are rising. This is not just limited to Nexon EV or any of Tata Motors’ electric vehicles. It is the state of EVs in India that is relatively young for electric powertrains and necessary charging infrastructure. A Tata Nexon EV owner named Carmelita Fernandes took to social media recently and expressed grievances regarding her electric vehicle. She explained on Twitter what kind of a nightmare her experience with her Nexon EV was. Fed up with Tata Motors’ service, she asked the company to “take her car back” as a last resort. But, what made this Nexon EV owner say this? Let’s take a look.Nexon EV Owner Says Please Take My Car BackBecause Tata is the largest EV manufacturer in India, cases like this relating to it are more common. It is like Maruti Suzuki car crashes are more because it sells more cars, to begin with. It is all about probability. Most of what we say in this post holds good for EVs in general.Carmelita Fernandes took to social media to express grievances regarding her Nexon EV. In a Twitter post, she explained how she had multiple issues with her Nexon EV. She mentioned two trips from Mumbai to Pune. The distance between Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport to Pune is around 160 km.Tata Nexon EV ownerOn a full charge, Nexon EV Prime promises a range of 312 km. That said, Lonavala ghats eat into the battery significantly while climbing inclines and the same amount of lost extra energy is not recuperated in declines. Topping up in Pune becomes mandatory. But India’s charging infrastructure is still in its infant stage and charging stations often don’t work as expected.Carmelita Fernandes claims charging stations at Turbhe and Food Mall didn’t work at all. She had battery issues too which Rudra Motors in Wagholi, Pune, replaced under warranty. Carmelita also claims that Tata’s ZConnect Support didn’t provide any support and the company’s toll-free number 18008332233 doesn’t work at all.State of EVs in India in May 2023Even though electric car sales touched 5,000+ units monthly mark, corresponding charging infrastructure growth is still very meek. So, the prospect of an EV in India has still not expanded beyond the tier 1 or tier 2 city limits (in most cases). For intercity commutes and long drives, owners should thoroughly plan the trip ahead.Automotive enthusiasts reacting to the postEven though one has planned out a route and personally telephoned all charging stations for working confirmation, there is no guarantee that they will work when you arrive with a minimal state of charge. Maybe the weather is bad or the charging station just wouldn’t budge. My luck would never allow such a close call and will always keep me stranded (sad life).Even if you can afford a long-range EV among the 28 electric cars on sale in India, you’re still limited by lack of a robust charging infrastructure. We would advise a prospective EV buyer in India mid-2023 to thoroughly research the use cases of their new electric car. If your daily commute involves city driving and an occasional long drive within a 100 km radius for recreation, go for it.If your EV is a second or a third car, go for it. Or else, ICE vehicles still pose great value. PHEVs with traditional parallel hybrid architecture are the best bet for emerging markets like India. A small manually rechargeable battery and a motor for short commutes along with an IC engine for the longer routes. None of the mainstream hybrids in India currently offer plug-in functionality. Toyota-Suzuki-Daihatsu electric van debuts – 200 Km range

Toyota Suzuki Daihatsu – Mini electric vanThe upcoming mini electric van from Toyota-Suzuki-Daihatsu will feature a battery big enough for around 200 km of range on a single chargeThe trio Toyota-Suzuki-Daihatsu has unveiled a new electric van prototype at an exhibition highlighting automotive industry’s efforts towards carbon neutrality. This event is taking place between May 18th to 27th, 2023. JAMA (Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association) is hosting this event and will take place along with G7 Hiroshima Summit. All three manufacturers will showcase a badge-engineered version of the same electric minivan. First images are out and production-spec versions of this prototype will be named Toyota Pixis Van, Suzuki Every and Daihatsu Hijet Cargo. Is India among the target markets? Let’s take a look.Toyota-Suzuki-Daihatsu electric vanToyota-Daihatsu-Suzuki Trio’s First Electric VanToyota Pixis Van, Suzuki Every and Daihatsu Hijet Cargo will primarily target the last-mile logistics industry and CJPTC (Commercial Japan Partnership Technology Corporation) gave inputs to this project regarding the same. The trio has tasked Daihatsu with manufacturing Pixis Van, Every and Hijet Cargo. This is not the only project that this trio has on their cards. In an earlier post, we covered Toyota-Daihatsu-Suzuki’s mid-engined sports car. In that project, Toyota will develop suspension and other componentry, Suzuki will prepare the powertrain and Daihatsu designs it. It is an interesting proposition as a 1.0L turbo petrol unit powers it and it will weigh under 1,000 kg.Toyota-Suzuki-Daihatsu electric vanIn this electric minivan project, Toyota is contributing towards electric powertrain. Suzuki and Daihatsu contribute with their expertise in manufacturing small cars and interior space engineering. The production version of this electric minivan is rumoured to feature a battery enough for 200 km of range.Toyota-Suzuki-Daihatsu electric vanMinivan with good cargo spaceToyota Pixis Van, Suzuki Every and Daihatsu Hijet Cargo will not compete with bigger electric vans like Fiat e-Ducato, upcoming VW ID Buzz Cargo and the likes. Instead, these offer a limited cargo space for the Japan market and other ASEAN markets where Kei cars are common. We hope India is a recipient too, as we can see it as a good intra city delivery van for both B2B and B2C models.Speaking of Kei cars, this electric minivan looks like one too. Just longer in length. It has a cutesy appeal to it and features a boxy design. Toyota Pixis Van, Suzuki Every and Daihatsu Hijet Cargo will feature identical design. Except for Suzuki Every which gets a different front bumper. There is a front charging port as well but it is not centered, which could enhance convenience.Toyota-Suzuki-Daihatsu electric vanConsidering that the trio is aiming for commercial and cargo applications, the stuck glass could have been a sheet metal. So, people carrying applications in the future might be on the cards. Notable elements are sliding doors, steel wheels, a small bonnet, and a flat roof with exposed rain gutters.Image Source More

When compared to i4, iX gets a smaller 76.6 kWh battery pack and promises less range of 425 km. 326 bhp, 630 Nm, dual motor with AWD and 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds are notable bits.Porsche Taycan23. Porsche TaycanTaycan is the first real European rival for Tesla Model S. It offers what Tesla lacks, a sense of luxury. Battery size goes till 93.4 kWh, promising a range of up to 484 km (RWD). Range might be low compared to battery size. But is acceptable considering top-spec Turbo S packs dual motors with 625 bhp and 1,050 Nm torque and can hit 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds with AWD.2022 Mercedes EQS Electric24. Mercedes-Benz EQSAt 107.8 kWh capacity, Mercedes-Benz EQS packs in the largest battery among EVs in India. Largest battery translates to highest range too, promising 857 km on a single charge. This luxurious barge of a limousine ain’t no slouch either. With a dual motor layout, AWD, 516 bhp and 855 Nm, EQS will hit 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds.Audi e-tron GT India Launch25. Audi e-tron GTWanted a Porsche Taycan, but from Audi? e-tron GT is that vehicle. The appeal of a Porsche is missing. But the e-tron GT makes sense too as it packs more knobs and buttons to control interior functions than Taycan.Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo26. Porsche Taycan Cross TurismoStation wagons are one of the hottest segments in Europe. Porsche saw an opportunity and crafted Taycan Sport Turismo. It is not on offer in India. Instead, we get its ruggedised and off-roady version called Cross Turismo. It is a Porsche Taycan underneath, better looking (IMO).New BMW i7 Electric – Launched in India27. BMW i7Another BMW vehicle with a controversial design. But i7 is a full-size sedan and rivals Mercedes-Benz EQS. It packs 101.78 kWh of battery with a claimed 625 km of range. Dual motors with 536 bhp and 745 Nm allow the i7 to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. It is slightly more expensive than EQS for less performance and less range. It blows punches with more rear-seat occupant luxury than EQS.Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ India Launch28. Mercedes-Benz AMG EQSIf you thought standard EQS was already bonkers, you’re right. But folks at Mercedes-Benz and AMG think otherwise. AMG EQS has the same battery as EQS, but motors get an upgrade to generate 751 bhp and 1,020 Nm of torque. The AMG EQS is not as quick as the Taycan Turbo S, but 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds is commendable.Electric cars on sale in India – May 2023 More

2024 Honda Compact Electric SUV Debuts – 412 Km Range, 15 Inch Touchscreen

New Honda Compact Electric SUVWhile official launch timeline is not available, 2024 Honda e:Ny1 EV is expected to debut in Europe in coming monthsHonda has been rather late in EV segment. However, recent plans show that the Japanese carmaker has stepped up focus to boost its electric portfolio in international markets. But in India, Honda continues to focus on ICE-based and hybrid cars.Honda’s brand-new electric SUV for European market is e:Ny1 compact SUV. It was earlier showcased as e:Ny1 Prototype, which in turn is similar to e:NS1 and e:NP1 twins available in Chinese market. Honda e:Ny1 seems familiar, as the SUV is essentially an electric version of HR-V.New Honda Compact Electric SUV2024 Honda e:Ny1 electric compact SUV detailsAlthough it looks like HR-V, Honda has stated that its new e:Ny1 electric SUV is based on an entirely new e:N Architecture F. It has some unique characteristics, designed to improve drive dynamics. One of the key highlights is a front-drive platform. The e:N Architecture F has three primary USPs – low centre of gravity, a dedicated high rigidity body structure and intelligently designed under-floor aerodynamics. All these features will ensure greater confidence for users while driving the SUV and make journeys a lot more fun and exciting.New Honda Compact Electric SUVThe newly developed chassis for Honda e:Ny1 offers improved torsional rigidity. It has been achieved with the use of high tensile steel, which comprises around 47% of the SUV’s body by weight. Improved torsional rigidity means the vehicle will have better ride quality and the suspension system can work more efficiently. With the new platform and chassis, Honda e:Ny1 is primed to deliver dynamic and refined performance and exceptional comfort.New Honda Compact Electric SUVIn terms of how it differs from HR-V, Honda e:Ny1 Compact Electric SUV has new headlamps, a closed grille and new bumper. The EV also gets a unique set of alloy wheels. Branding elements are also new, as can be seen with the white coloured ‘H’ logo on the charging flap and on the steering wheel. This seems to be a new identity for Honda’s electric cars.Honda follows a similar approach for Type R variants that have the logo in red background. Similarly, Honda hybrid cars have the H logo in blue background. Another unique aspect is new typeface for ‘HONDA’ badging at rear.New Honda Compact Electric SUV2024 Honda e:Ny1 Compact Electric SUV is expected to offer spacious interiors. It will be equipped with a massive 15.1-inch vertically mounted (portrait) touchscreen infotainment system. The screen has a fixed section for AC controls. Honda e:Ny1 also gets a separate instrument console, which seems to be around 10.25 inch in size.Honda e:Ny1 range, specsHonda e:Ny1 electric SUV is equipped with a 68.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The EV has a lightweight three-in-one integrated power drive unit that generates 201 hp of max power and 310 Nm of peak torque. Honda says range of e:Ny1 is 412 km, as per WLTP cycle. Tata Punch Electric Spied. Images – PhotulogyUpon launch, Punch Electric will rival the likes of Citroen eC3 and recently launched MG Comet EVWith new rivals in entry-level EV segment, Tata Motors is looking to spruce up its EV portfolio. The strategy to launch electric versions of existing popular ICE models has paid rich dividends for the company. After Nexon, Tiago and Tigor, the next to get the EV version is Tata Punch.Tata’s primary volume generators have been Nexon and Punch. While Nexon has crossed the 5-lakh production milestone, Punch recently achieved the 2-lakh production milestone. With Punch’s soaring popularity, it seems the right time to introduce its electric version. Punch will also be getting a CNG option soon.Tata Punch Electric SpiedPunch Electric spotted – Same exterior profilePunch Electric has been spotted on a tow truck. The tight-fitting camouflage reveals that Punch EV has the same exterior profile as the ICE-based Punch. Even the alloy wheels are the same as ICE Punch.Changes at the front are not needed, as Punch Electric is likely to have the charging port at the same spot where the ICE version has the fuel tank lid. This has been the case with Nexon EV and Tiago EV as well. This setup probably helps reduce the number of changes required to convert an ICE-based car into an electric car.Tata Punch Electric SpiedHowever, Punch electric could get some new features. For example, the test mule can be seen with rear disc brakes. In comparison, ICE Punch is offered with front disc and rear drum brakes. Interiors reveal the presence of a rotary dial, indicating that the EV could get an electronic parking brake. This feature is already available with Nexon EV Max. The electronic parking brake functions automatically and it can also be engaged and disengaged manually.Tata Punch Electric SpiedOther features on the inside appear to be the same as ICE Punch. The electric version can be seen with a floating 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is likely to be from Harman and come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other features similar to ICE Punch include a 7-inch TFT instrument cluster, automatic climate control, flat bottom steering wheel and premium upholstery.Safety features for Punch Electric will be largely the same as its ICE sibling. Some of the key safety equipment offered with Punch includes reverse parking camera, front fog lamps with cornering function, auto headlamps, rain sensing wipers, ABS and EBD with brake sway control and rear defogger.Tata Punch Electric SpiedPunch Electric rangeWhile official details are not available, Punch Electric could have a range of around 300 km. For reference, Tiago EV is available in two variants, one with 250 km range and the other with 315 km range. Recently launched MG Comet EV has range of 230 km whereas Citroen eC3 offers 320 km. Punch Electric is likely to get drive modes of Eco, City and Sport. Battery packs could be similar to those used with Tiago EV.Image Source More

MG Comet Based Yep Electric Pickup Could Soon Be A Reality

MG Yep e-SUV’s Pickup versionMG Comet based Yep electric SUV will soon get a pickup version – Reveals new reportProspect of a mini EV is understandable. It aids in big cities with heavy congestion, parking and running costs. Newest EV in India, MG Comet, is a good example. MG’s parent company has revealed more mini EVs based on the Comet platform. One of them is Baojun Yep EV. It is a mini SUV with 3 doors. Launch is planned in the coming weeks.Based on this electric SUV, we will also get an electric pickup truck. Yep, SAIC-GM-Wuling Design Studio (SGMW Studio) has revealed a pickup truck version of its Yep electric mini SUV. These are still in render phase. However, given that it is from SAIC-GM-Wuling, a production version is largely possible.MG Comet Based Yep Electric PickupBaojun Yep is a mini electric SUV designed to bring a tall driving stance in mini EV segment. It will go on sale in China soon for around CNY 100,000 (approx Rs. 11.82 lakh). Launch is expected around June or July. It measures 3381 mm long, 1685 mm wide and 1721 mm tall. Wheelbase is 2110 mm long.Baojun Yep e-SUV is 604 mm shorter than 5-door Jimny in length, 40 mm wider and just 1 mm taller. The recently surfaced pickup version is likely to have similar dimensions. Except, everything behind the front doors is a load bay with wheel-well intrusions.Rear load bayIt is not big and doesn’t seem to fit a fraction of what a real pickup truck can. That said, it looks cuter, more appealing and more lifestyle-y than the standard Yep SUV. A tailgate-mounted spare wheel amplifies ruggedness too. Because of the spare wheel, this tailgate will be side hinged too. Think Mahindra Bolero Invader.A Pink shade, because why not?Because of the rear spare wheel, the pickup truck version misses out on a rear screen, which a regular Baojun Yep gets. This screen is supposedly a way for Yep owners to show their personality by displaying anything they want. What will it pack? The same front design with quad LED headlights, front black grille, clover leaf wheel design and other exterior bits will make their way to this pickup version as well. Baojun will retain the dual horizontal screens on the inside with steering-mounted controls, and other paraphernalia from Yep SUV too.Tough green colourBattery size is not yet out. But this LFP battery has a claimed range of 303 km from a single charge (CLTC). At launch, Baojun Yep will come equipped with a single motor layout generating 68 bhp of power and 140 Nm of torque. An AWD version with two motors is in the works as well. India is likely to get the standard vehicle in the form of MG Yep e-SUV (name will change when announced). More
