2023 KTM 390 ADV Debuts – New Spoked Wheels, Colours

Except for the new Spoked Wheels edition and new colours, 2023 KTM 390 Adventure is identical to 2022 model2023 KTM 390 ADVKTM’s formula of an ADV based on its explosive 390 platform has worked wonders. It has been well-received as a high-speed tourer since day one. But as an ADV for trails and off-roading? Not so much. Apart from ergonomics, KTM didn’t offer enough off-road hardware to justify the ADV tag. 2023 KTM 390 Adventure aims to fix just that. The Austrian brand has revealed 2023 KTM 390 Adventure.Ahead of the launch of new-gen 390 platform, KTM is updating its 390 Adventure to meet buyer trends. It was a formidable machine where touring and mild trailing are concerned. That said, customers who craved more off-road worthy hardware can now rejoice with the 2023 KTM 390 Adventure.2023 KTM 390 Adventure RevealedKTM is offering the one element that was asked for the most. Wire-spoke rims. These rims fare better in off-road conditions as they have a better shock absorbing and dissipating capability as opposed to alloy wheels. Manufacturers offer wire-spoke rims on off-road motorcycles and retro motorcycles. These new wheels are offered in “Spoked Wheeled” edition alongside regular cast alloy models. In the press material, KTM didn’t mention if these new wheels are tubeless or not. Usually, tubeless spoke wheels are only offered with premium off-roaders. The pictures of wheels from KTM suggest these might very well be compatible with tubeless tyres. KTM is using the exact same Continental TKC70 tyres previously used with alloy wheels.2023 KTM 390 ADVThese have block patterns and fare better in providing traction in sticky situations. Wheels themselves are made out of black anodized aluminium. With this move, 2023 KTM 390 Adventure is more befitting of its name. Rest of the motorcycle is kept identical except for new colourways.Specs & FeaturesBoth Spoked Wheeled edition and regular alloy wheel edition are on offer. The 373 cc single-cylinder fire-breathing engine is retained with 44 hp and 37 Nm. This engine is mounted on a steel trellis frame suspended on 43 mm WP USD front forks and rear mono-shock. The 5” TFT display showing various functionalities is retained from the outgoing model.Traction Control, Ride-by-wire, OFFROAD mode (more rear wheel slip), Cornering ABS, and linked OFFROAD ABS (disengaged on the rear, reduced on the front), 46mm throttle body and the slipper clutch are still on offer. Braking consists of single disc setups at both ends clasped by BYBRE hardware with a 4-pot caliper at front. Weight is 172 kg including 14.5L of fuel.Pricing for the same is not yet announced. It is unsure when it will launch in India. We can expect a slight price bump for the Spoke Wheeled edition over the standard model. While the latter is likely to be priced as is. Rivals include BMW G 310 GS, upcoming Hero Xpulse 400, Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and the likes. More

Honda Activa Petrol To Electric Conversion At Rs 1 Lakh – Range 120 Km

As per the modder, this electric Activa conversion has a 2.88 kWh worth of prismatic cell battery costing Rs. 55,000Electric Activa Conversion Costs 1 Lakh – 2.88 kWh BatteryActiva is currently the de facto choice in the scooter segment for a majority in the segment. With 6 generations of legacy and a fan following, Activa has come a long way. Don’t let the sub 1 lakh units sold in December 2022 fool you. Activa is notoriously known to dominate the scooter segment with 50% of market share.HMSI CEO has confirmed recently that its maiden electric scooter will launch in January 2024. With still a year on the clock, Activa fans eagerly waiting for an electric scooter might be disappointed. However, there is no one stopping them from converting their existing Activa to electric, though. Yes. There are many kits, but let’s take a look at a neat conversion done in Nellore, AP.Honda Activa Petrol To ElectricA modder from Nellore, Andhra Pradesh running a YouTube channel Diy Tech.in Telugu, has neatly converted a standard ICE Activa into an EV. All the modifications come together beautifully and look cohesive. Except for a few green decals and EV stickers, people would be hard-pressed to spot that it is converted. The modder has worked on an older generation Honda Activa and swapped the engine to house an electric battery. Propulsion is achieved by a hub motor, mounted at the rear wheel. According to modder, this motor is rated at 1 kW of continuous power and 2 to 2.5 kW of peak power as well. While the battery is a 72V 40A unit with prismatic cells. This works to be 2.88 kWh worth of capacity.[embedded content][embedded content]The modder promises a range of over 120 km from a single charge. While top speed is limited to 55 km/h. Modder explains that there is a smart BMS (Battery Management System) on board and a full sine wave smart motor controller. The latter contributes to a vibe-free motor operation. The “smart” in smart BMS enables smartphone connectivity to display various vehicular info. The motor controller comes with three speeds that can be cycled through via a custom switch. There is a parking mode switch too, which cuts power to motor, when engaged. Indications for both of these are displayed in the fully digital instrument cluster.Specs & FeaturesThis Electric Activa conversion swaps the analog instrumentation of stock Activa with a fully digital unit. It displays a tonne of info including motor RPM as well. Since there is no need for an engine starter motor, the starter switch is now converted to a horn.Honda Activa Petrol to Honda Activa Electric – ModificationEngine on stock Activa is mounted on its swingarm. A new swingarm with dual shock absorbers was necessary. Stock Activa gets a single-sided mono-shock. Battery compartment and boot space were not revealed, but the charging point is mounted near footboard. As per modder, this whole conversion costs Rs. 1 lakh including base vehicle. Batteries alone command more than half of that price. An overnight charge is sufficient as per this modder to conserve battery health and he doesn’t often recommend fast charging. Icing on the cake for people opting for this conversion is a 3-year warranty on its battery. More

New Honda Motorcycle To Rival Splendor – Patent Design Leaks (Flex Fuel?)

A space between Splendor and HF Deluxe is likely where Honda’s new budget commuter will fall in terms of pricingNew Honda Motorcycle To Rival SplendorHonda Motorcycles & Scooters India (HMSI) has utter dominance in scooter segment. Thanks to its ever-popular Activa range, Honda has kept scooter sales charts under its grasp and is likely to stay that way for a long time. With motorcycles, Honda has an entry-level offering called CB Shine. It is the second highest-seller for HMSI and highest-seller when Honda’s motorcycle range is considered. Where the Indian motorcycle market is taken into account, it is Hero MotoCorp that absolutely decimates the competition.New Honda Motorcycle To Rival SplendorSplendor is the one to beat in India with 2.25 lakh units sold last month while Honda Shine was at No 2 behind Splendor and HF Deluxe with 87k units sold. Honda has been reportedly working on a new budget commuter. Now, the Japanese brand has patented a new design in India in that regard. Let’s take a look.Looking at the design patent, one can immediately say that it has been built to be priced aggressively in the entry segment. Even with budget commuter standards. As of now, the name of this upcoming motorcycle is not known. That said, it bears semblance with CG Dream series of budget commuters that is sold in underdeveloped markets like Pakistan.New Honda Motorcycle To Rival SplendorSpeaking of Pakistan, Honda offers a CG 125 Dream with spoked wheels. In India, HMSI is likely to plonk a 110cc engine that currently does duty in CD 110 Dream. Honda’s entry-level offering CD 110 Dream is currently not doing well against Hero Splendor despite offering a larger 110cc engine as opposed to 100cc and matching the price too. There can be an attempt by Honda to offer a 125cc motorcycle with spoked wheels and barebones functionality and match Splendor Plus’ Rs. 71.5K price point. This way, Honda can expect to push more volumes and grab some of Splendor’s pie. There is a third possibility of offering a new 100cc engine and going toe-to-toe with Splendor Plus which gets a 100cc engine as well and even undercuts the latter in pricing. By going this route, HMSI can bring a contender to rival Hero HF Deluxe which is the 4th highest-selling motorcycle in India and is priced at an absolute steal at Rs. 55K.Flex Fuel?Even though it is very early in the time frame for speculating a flex-fuel offering, it is a possibility. We say this because Honda’s new budget commuter which is patented in India has an unusually large engine casing for a budget commuter motorcycle. But it looks like the engine casing is extending beyond its cradle frame. This is unusual for a budget motorcycle with just a 100-125cc engine unless it is holding additional equipment for flex-fuel tech. Notable features include a double cradle chassis, telescopic front forks and twin shock absorbers at the rear, a single-piece seat, and spoked wheels. When launched this year, Honda’s new budget commuter will take on Hero HF Deluxe and Splendor Plus. A price bracket of around Rs. 60-70k is likely to be a logical bet for this upcoming motorcycle. New Rider Electric Motorcycle With 140 Km Range – Aims To Rival 125cc Bikes

Owing to its hub-mounted motor, Rider SR6 boasts a staggering 118 Nm of torque available from zero RPMNew Rider Electric MotorcycleIn India, we get motorcycles from various companies. Most of them are either Indian or Japanese. Brands like Ducati, Aprilia, Vespa, Triumph and the likes hail from the old continent. Then there are Harley-Davidson and Indian from the land of the free and lastly, we have Benelli, Keeway, QJ and Zontes and the likes from dragon land.We don’t get French Motorcycles here. Never have. Should that be the case? Or do we need French brands like Rider to launch its fully-faired electric motorcycle range in India? Considering that 2W EV scene in India is growing by the day and more players are pooling in, should Rider make an entry?New Rider Electric MotorcycleThat is not happening anytime soon. But, let’s take a look at what we would get if it does launch in India. If launched, it would be a fitting rival to recently launched enthusiast EV Ultraviolette F77.There is a lot to like about Rider SR6. Design-wise, there are a lot of inspirations drawn from Yamaha’s YZF range. It shows especially in its front fascia. The fairing is neatly executed and features vents to cool down its batteries. Speaking of, the battery pack is mounted low on its frame, to bring its center of gravity lower.New Rider Electric MotorcycleBattery is exposed lower down, aiding in cooling, while motor is a hub unit built into its rear wheel. This motor is from renowned EV component manufacturer, QS Motor brand. It generates 5 kW of continuous power (6.7 bhp) and peaks out at 6 kW (8.04 bhp). Even though SR6’s power is in line with what a 125cc category motorcycle produces, torque is not.At 118 Nm, it has a lot of torque and that too, at 0 RPM. Torque measurement method differs with hub-mounted motors and always boasts a higher number. Regardless, top speed is pegged at 74.5 Mph (120 km/h). Power is drawn from a 72 V and 86 Ah battery. This combination works out to a capacity of a 6.192 kWh battery pack.At a steady 80 km/h speed, Rider SR6 is claimed to travel 100 km on a single charge. If driven with a light throttle at 50 km/h, Rider claims 140 km of range from a single charge. With a 220V normal household socket, charging time is 9 hours, but it does support type 2 socket for fast charging too.New Rider Electric MotorcycleSpecs & FeaturesIn terms of componentry, Rider SR6 fully-faired electric motorcycle has a lot to offer. There are clip-on handlebars with low-slung and committed riding posture. Footpegs are rear set too. At front, we have dual 300 mm brake rotors and a 240 mm disc at the rear. USD front forks take care of suspending the front, while the rear gets a mono-shock.Rear suspension gets adjustability with an external rotary dial. No need for screw drivers for this task. Front USD forks seem to be adjustable too, but can’t be said for sure. What is sure, though, is Rider SR6’s price tag. It starts from EUR 7190 (approx Rs. 6.4 lakh). At this price before taxes and import duties, it almost doesn’t make sense as Ultraviolette F77 costs between Rs. 3.8 lakh to Rs. 5.5 lakh. More
