Honda Activa Electric Scooter Teased Ahead Of Launch Next Year

Unlike EV startups that are starting from scratch, Honda can quickly expand its footprint by leveraging its existing pan-India sales and service networkHonda Activa Electric Scooter TeasedWhile it has been late in electric two-wheeler space, Honda has intentions to expand rapidly in coming years. For FY2024, Honda has confirmed that it will be launching two electric scooters. One of these will have a fixed battery setup, whereas the other will utilize swappable battery tech. Honda has shared a design sketch teaser of these two scooters. One of Honda’s upcoming electric scooters could be named Activa Electric. Patent documents accessed recently had revealed designs of a fixed battery setup and hub motor. Honda will be targeting a high level of localization to be able to launch its electric scooters at a competitive price point. It will rival TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, and soon to be launched Burgman Electric.2nd Honda Electric Scooter for IndiaHonda new platform EHonda’s upcoming electric two-wheelers will be based on an entirely new platform, built from the ground up. Codenamed Platform E, Honda’s new electric platform will be able to support different types of battery architecture and installations. It will support both fixed battery and swappable battery formats. The latter will be utilizing Honda’s Mobile Power Pack E.To reduce production costs, Honda will be sourcing most of the components from local manufacturers. It will include the battery packs and power control units (PCUs). Just like its ICE scooters, Honda’s upcoming electric two-wheelers will be targeted at export markets as well. India could emerge as one of Honda’s global hubs for manufacturing affordable electric two-wheelers.Two new Honda Electric Scooters for India launch in 2024Honda Workshop E and Factory ETo ensure a smooth landing for its upcoming electric two-wheelers, Honda has plans to deploy battery charging and battery swapping infrastructure across its more than 6,000 customer touchpoints. Of course, the plans will be executed in a phased manner. Some of the existing touchpoints will be converted to Workshop E, which will cater exclusively to EVs. All the necessary equipment such as charging cables will be available at these workshops. Honda will also be working to provide battery charging solutions at select petrol pumps, metro stations and other similar locations.Honda is working on a South to North plan for its EV infrastructure, where the initial focus will be more on Southern states. The starting point is Bengaluru, where Honda has already established 23 battery swapping stations. In Phase 2, more such swapping stations will come up, especially in southern states. In the 3rd phase, swapping stations will be deployed pan-India.Battery swapping system is probably the most convenient way to use electric two-wheelers. As of now, there’s hardly any brand that offers such facilities across the country. When Honda’s battery swapping network is up and running, there’s expected to be a huge demand for its EVs. To cater to that, Honda is building a dedicated Factory E at its existing facility in Narsapura in Karnataka. By 2030, Factory E will have a production capacity of 1 million units per annum. More

With the Triumph partnership, Bajaj is making yet another attempt. For starters, there will be two engine options on offer under the entry-segment Bajaj-Triumph motorcycles. Both of them are constructed with a single-cylinder architecture. One displaces 250cc and the other displaces 350cc.2023 Bajaj Triumph Motorcycle – New Spy ShotsFeatures on offer will include liquid cooling, slipper clutch, quick shifter, ABS, ride-by-wire and more. It is about Rs 10k more expensive than the entry level Activa 125, which is priced at Rs 78,920.H-Smart is Honda’s proprietary tech which enables keyless functionality. It is considered a lot safer than a conventional key as it gets an immobilizer chip inside it as well. This ensures that a generic key won’t be able to trigger ignition unless constantly changing codes generated by on-board chip, matches that of the codes generated by its new H-Smart key.Honda Activa 125 SpecsIf you think an immobilizer chip isn’t important, ask any of the 83 lakh Hyundai and Kia customers affected in USA as their cars are being stolen with nothing more than a USB-A cable. Sticking with Honda Activa 125 H-Smart, the company is providing an additional safety net that is currently not offered by rivaling brands like TVS, Suzuki and Hero MotoCorp. As part of this package, Honda will provide a smart key with features like Smart Find, Smart Unlock, Smart Safe and Smart Start. Smart Find allows users to turn on indicators remotely if within 10 meters, making it easier to spot in a parking lot. Smart Unlock allows users to unlock boot space and fuel lid if present within 2 meters from the vehicle. Also present is Smart Safe where the scooter locks itself automatically if the key goes out of range (2 meters). This feature could be disabled from within the key as well. Lastly, we have Smart Start where a rider can start his Honda Activa 125 by pressing the start button if a key is present within 2 meters.Honda Activa 125 ColoursOther ChangesApart from the H-Smart key, Honda Activa 125 has been updated to upcoming mandatory BS6 phase II norms meeting RDE emission norms. Real time fuel consumption, average mileage and distance to empty are other features. Apart from this, there aren’t any other changes. The 124 cc single-cylinder 2V head petrol engine will be retained as is, coupled to a CVT. This swingarm-mounted engine will make 8 bhp of power and 10.3 Nm of torque. Honda is next getting ready to launch electric Activa.Mr. Yogesh Mathur, Operating Officer, Sales & Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India said, “The launch of the 2023 Activa125 with H-Smart marks a significant step forward for our customers, demonstrating our commitment to innovation and meeting their evolving needs. With advanced technology, we aim to deliver a superior product that sets us apart from the competition and drives growth for our business.” More

Starting with Electric Activa in 2024 and Benly-e (likely) soon after that with a swappable battery. These are codenamed GJNA and K4BA (not respectively). By doing so, Honda will essentially be the first Japanese motorcycle and scooter manufacturer to venture in EV space in India.Currently, In India, Ola has carved a niche for itself by offering a plethora of features and is the highest seller in its segment. Honda might bank heavily on its Activa brand instead of features to push volumes.Battery Swapping StationsFor Honda, battery swapping tech is likely to be the key to establishing supremacy over rivals. A new vertical named Honda Power Pack Energy India has been established in Bengaluru. Starting from Bengaluru, Honda has partnered up with HPCL and Bengaluru Metro to establish swapping stations. When started, these swapping stations will be equipped to provide 1.35 kWh battery packs for swaps for electric two and three-wheeled vehicles. While the following vehicles launched by 2027 are expected to take that number to 10 lakh units. For the very first year, Honda is planning for upto 1.5 lakh units and shooting for a double-digit YoY growth as well.Honda Manesar factory will see an upgrade. Honda intends to convert it into a global hub for the production of motorcycles and scooters. It has also changed the name of the Manesar facility to ‘Global Resource Factory’ which in effect, is to be a global hub for motorcycle exports. This upgrade of the manufacturing plant will allow Honda to build and export world-class products from the Indian facility.Honda currently exports motorcycles to 40 different countries and the upgrade will help them reach new scales. Honda Roadmap also facilitates a 360-degree state-of-the-art turnaround of the factory. In effect, all corporate functions happen under one roof to improve efficiency of the operations and efficiency across teams and verticals.Commuter flex-fuel motorcycleThe Japanese manufacturer is also looking to explore the possibilities of flex-fuel technologies in India. This technology is already in effect in its Brazilian counterparts. Flex-fuel motorcycles run on petrol and Ethanol. The user can switch back and forth to any fuel he may choose to ride with. Ethanol is very economical to run and efficient too.Source More
