    Triumph Scrambler 400X Launched in MalaysiaIn Malaysia, rivals to single-cylinder Triumphs include KTM 390 Duke, Modenas Dominar 400 and Kawasaki Z400Made-in-India Triumph Speed 400 and Triumph Scrambler 400X are exported to multiple overseas markets. One of these locations is Malaysia, where prices for the 2024 models have been announced. Hardware specs are the same as India-spec Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X.2024 Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X Malaysia prices2024 Triumph Speed 400 will be available at a starting price of RM26,900 (Rs 4.78 lakh) in Malaysia. Triumph Scrambler 400X starts at RM29,900, which is approximately Rs 5.31 lakh. In India, Speed 400 is available at a starting price of Rs 2.33 lakh.Triumph Speed 400 launched in MalaysiaWhereas Scrambler 400X starts at Rs 2.63 lakh. It was Speed 400 that was launched first in India in July. Scrambler 400X was launched last month in October. The single-cylinder Triumph bikes have been introduced in other locations such as Philippines and the United Kingdom. More international markets will be covered in 2024.While both Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X are underpinned by the same platform, they come with distinctive styling and some changes in specs. For example, Speed 400 has a single-piece seat, whereas Scrambler 400X has a split seat format. Differences can also be seen across colour options, exhaust muffler and choice of tyres. 400X has off-road focused equipment such as radiator and sump guards, hand guards and knobby, dual-purpose tyres. It also gets switchable ABS for enhanced control and handling across off-road environments.Speed 400 has 17-inch wheels at both ends, whereas Scrambler 400X has 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels. There is a difference in wheelbase, with Speed 400 at 1,377 mm and the 400X at 1,418 mm. Scrambler 400X seat height is 835 mm, as compared to 790 mm of Speed 400. Scrambler 400X is around 9 kg heavier than Speed 400 that weighs 176 kg. While rear 230 mm disc brake is same for both bikes, Scrambler 400X has a larger 320 mm disc at front in comparison to 300 mm of Speed 400.Common features include the round headlamp and rear-view mirrors, USD front forks in golden finish, fuel tank design and tail section. Another common feature is the semi-digital instrument console. Both bikes use a 398.15 cc, liquid cooled, single cylinder, DOHC engine. It generates 40 PS of max power and 39.5 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.Triumph Speed 400, 400X market responseTriumph’s bet on single-cylinder bikes seems to be delivering good returns. Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X have emerged as a popular option across both domestic and international markets. In domestic market, Triumph 400 was ranked at 5th spot in the list of bestselling 300cc to 500cc motorcycles in September.Of course, Royal Enfield bikes continue to be the favourite.     Yamaha Sales Breakup October 2023 – FZ, RayZR, R15, Fascino

During the past month, the company has recorded outstanding growth in domestic markets. Exports fell on a YoY basis but made up in terms of MoM sales. Yamaha now gears up for launch of the new R3 and MT03 on 15th December 2023. They will be sold exclusively via the company’s Blue Square dealershipsYamaha Sales Oct 2023 – Domestic MarketTotal sales (domestic + exports) stood at 87,869 units. In terms of domestic sales, the company saw a total of 67,784 units sold last month, up 14.53 percent from 59,187 units sold in October 2022. MoM sales also grew by 5.61 percent from 64,182 units sold in September 2023.In domestic markets, it was the Yamaha FZ that was at the top of sales charts. It saw 18,000 units sold, down 11.94 percent YoY from 20,440 units sold in October 2023. The FZ commands a 26.55 percent share of the company portfolio. MoM sales were more positive with a 21.03 percent growth from 14,872 units sold in September 2023. The Yamaha FZ was also at No. 3 on the list of top 10 150-200cc motorcycles sold last month after the Bajaj Pulsar and YVS Apache.At No. 2 was Yamaha RayZR, making it the company’s highest-selling scooter with 13,870 units sold in October 2023. Sales increased by 18.72 percent over 11,683 units sold in October 2022. MoM sales however, dipped by 12.79 percent as there had been 15,904 units sold in September 2023.Yamaha Sales October 2023 – DomesticYoY and MoM growth was reported for the Yamaha R15, sales of which stood at 12,964 units last month. It was a 61.30 percent YoY and 16.47 percent MoM growth from 8,037 units and 11,131 units sold in October 2022 and September 2023 respectively.There was also the Fascino that saw sales cross the 10,000 unit mark last month to 11,610 units, up 10.56 percent YoY from 10,501 units sold in October 202. MoM sales however, fell by 3.36 percent from 12,014 units sold in September 2023. The domestic sales list also included 8,736 units of the Yamaha MT15 and 2,604 units of Aerox.Yamaha Exports headed by FZ and RayZRExports fell to 20,085 units in October 2023, down 8.52 percent from 21,956 units shipped in October 2022. MoM exports, however, showed more positive results with a 5.57 percent growth from 19,026 units exported in September 2023.Yamaha Sales October 2023 – ExportsIt was the Yamaha FZ that also led the company export list despite a YoY and MoM decline. Exports dipped to 9,116 units last month, down 15.08 percent from 10,735 units sold in October 2022. MoM exports also fell by 4.54 percent from 9,550 units sold in September 2023. The FZ currently commands a 45.39 percent share on the Yamaha export list.RayZR followed with 3,191 units shipped last month, an 81.41 percent growth from 1,756 units sold in October 2022. MoM exports also grew albeit marginally by 1.88 percent from 3,132 units sold in September 2023. It was the SalutoRX that came in next with 2,922 units exported last month with a 35.09 percent MoM growth.It was followed by the Saluto which recorded a 236.67 percent YoY growth to 2,020 units, up from just 600 units exported in October 2022. MoM exports dipped 11.25 percent from 2,276 units shipped in September 2023. The export list also had MT15 (1,190 units), SZ (660 units), FZ25 (482 units) and R15 (302 units) out of which it was only the MT15 that posted YoY growth.However, on a MoM basis, each of these models saw exports increase significantly. Yamaha Alpha exports were at 112 units while the Fascino dipped 61.21 percent MoM to 90 units from 232 units sold in September 2023. More

    Gogoro CrossOver Launch In December – Company’s 1st Scooter In India

    Gogoro CrossOverProduction of Gogoro’s first electric scooter for India has commenced at the company’s plant in AurangabadAfter a long wait, Gogoro has finally revealed its plans for Indian market. While there are many options available in its home market Taiwan, the company has chosen to start its innings in India with the Gogoro CrossOver. Unveiled in October, the CrossOver is the newest scooter to be added to Gogoro’s international portfolio.Gogoro CrossOver production begins in IndiaPost the launch in December, sales of Gogoro CrossOver are expected to commence in early 2024. Initially, much of the production will fulfil the needs of B2B partners. Gogoro has tie-ups with companies like Zomato and Swiggy. The CrossOver will also be supplied to Zypp Electric, an EV-only delivery firm.At a later stage, Gogoro will also target the commuter segment with newer variants of the CrossOver. The company has committed investments worth  $1.5 billion (approx. Rs 12,300 crore) in Maharashtra. The design of the scooter reveals that it is a versatile machine, capable of carrying a lot of cargo. Gogoro CrossOver utilizes a steel tubular frame.With a wheelbase of 1,400 mm, it is longer than any other Gogoro scooter in production. It can carry cargo at the rear, in the floorboard area and at the front. The protruding LED headlight at front is topped with a metal bracket. It can be used to install a rack at the front. The flat floorboard area is pretty big and can carry a significant amount of cargo.Gogoro CrossOver Production In Aurangabad, India – CarandbikeFor mounting cargo at rear, Gogoro is likely to offer optional accessories such as luggage racks, panniers and top cases. In its stock form, the scooter has a foldable pillion seat. While making space for cargo, it doubles up as a backrest for the rider. The pillion seat can also be removed completely to accommodate extra-large cargo items.Gogoro CrossOver specs, performanceSuspension setup of Gogoro CrossOver comprises telescopic front forks and dual rear shock absorbers. The scooter has 12-inch wheels. Braking duties are performed by 220 mm front and 180 mm rear disc brakes. The scooter has ground clearance of 142 mm and weighs 126 kg with the batteries included.There are two battery packs, weighing around 10 kg each. The batteries are swappable units, with Gogoro promising a superfast 6-second swapping time. This will allow gig workers to optimize their work hours and boost profitability with maximum uptime. The powertrain to be used for CrossOver in India is yet to be revealed. Across international markets, Gogoro CrossOver utilizes a liquid-cooled motor that generates 7 kW (9.51 PS) of max power and 26.6 Nm of peak torque.Gogoro CrossOver UtilityIt remains to be seen if private buyers will be offered this same configuration. For B2B segment, each of the battery packs could be of 1.6 kWh capacity. The B2B variant will have a less powerful motor, generating around 3 kW (4 PS). Top speed could be around 60-65 kmph, whereas range will be close to 100 km on a full charge.Gogoro has chosen to maximize use of locally sourced components. This will help achieve a lower price point for its scooters in India. Ownership cost can be further reduced by offering recharged batteries as a service. Gogoro will also be working to expand its network of battery-swapping stations. Honda threw Legacy Edition, New Hue Edition, Comfort Custom, Tourer Custom, Cafe Racer Custom, Solo Carrier Custom and SUV Custom at CB350 to see what sticks. These may not have stuck well to Honda’s liking.Honda CB350 Vs Classic 350 – Fuel TankNow we get the timeless Honda CB350 which is by far the best-looking Royal Enfield rival ever launched in India. Classic bike buyers often throw spec sheets, brochures and logic out of the window when choosing their travel companion. It is all an emotional connection. Honda CB350 has the sauce with right ingredients (classic, retro and timeless) to stir emotions of this demographic.What extras does CB350 have over Classic 350?The number of changes that Honda has done to CB350 to infuse more timeless appeal are uncanny. Starting with fuel tank with tear drop effect and tank pad, front RSU telescopic forks now get shrouds, side body panels are new, seat looks properly retro, front and rear mudguards are redesigned with old-school charm, grab rail is vintage and exhaust is now straighter.With these timeless design attributes, Honda intends to win Royal Enfield buyers. CB350 has a 15.2L fuel tank as opposed to Classic’s 13L. Cherry on top, is that Honda CB350 Classic weighs less too, at 187 kg, as opposed to 195 kg of Classic 350.Honda offers traction control system, slip and assist clutch, LED headlights, LED turn indicators, LED tail lights, fancier instrument cluster, fatter 130-section rear tyre, alloy wheels as standard and more. None of these are offered with Classic 350. Saving grace for Classic 350 is its Tripper screen, which is optional and not standard.Honda CB350 Vs Classic 350 – FrontWhere pricing is concerned, Honda CB350 costs Rs. 2 lakh for DLX and 2.19 lakh for DLX Pro. Classic 350 prices range between Rs. 1.93 lakh and Rs. 2.25 lakh (all prices ex-sh). Bikes in this segment strike a balance between performance, fuel efficiency and style. Prominent manufacturers in this segment include Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor, Yamaha, Hero MotoCorp and Honda while Suzuki and Kawasaki also offer a few models.Top 150cc To 200cc Motorcycles – Pulsar has 32% market shareAfter covering top 10 motorcycle sales in October 2023, we now talk about sales exclusively in the 150-200cc segment in October 2023. There has been a marginal YoY growth of 0.77 percent to 1,80,417 units, up from 1,79,043 units sold in October 2022. This was a 1,374 unit volume growth with most models showing off a YoY sales growth. It was also a MoM growth over 1,51,282 units sold in September 2023.Bajaj Pulsars are the most popular among this bunch taking top position. Sales improved by 15.81 percent to 57,198 units in October 2023, up from 49,389 units sold in October 2022. This was a 7,809 unit volume growth with a 31.70 percent market share among top 150cc to 200cc motorcycle segment.It was followed by the TVS Apache lineup with 39,187 units sold last month, down 4.39 percent when compared to 40,988 units sold in October 2022. The TVS Apache lost 1,801 units in volume YoY and currently commands a 21.72 percent share on this list.Top 150cc to 200cc motorcycles October 2023YoY sales of Yamaha FZ also fell by 11.94 percent to 18,000 units last month, down from 20,440 units sold in October 2022. Sales almost halved with the Honda Unicorn which fell by a massive 48.72 percent to 16,404 units last month from 31,986 units sold in the same month last year. Losing 15,582 units in volume YoY.Yamaha R15 and MT-15 saw positive YoY growthAlso from Yamaha was the R15 with 12,964 units sold last month up 22.99 percent from 10,541 units sold in October 2022. The MT15 followed with 8,736 units sold in October 2023, up 8.70 percent from 8,037 units sold in October 2022.Launched in August 2023, the Honda SP160 has made its way to this list with 8,014 units sold last month to command a 4.44 percent share in this segment. The Honda SP160 was launched in place of the X-Blade which has now been discontinued.Hero Xtreme 160R/200 has seen lower YoY sales by 13.61 percent to 4,461 units, down from 5,164 units sold in October 2022. It was followed by the Honda Hornet 2.0 which has seen outstanding sales growth by 176.52 percent to 3,650 units in the past month from 1,320 units sold in October 2022.KTM 200 and Hero Xpulse 200 face sales constraintsSales of the KTM200 dipped by 15.27 percent YoY to 3,391 units in October 2023, down from 4,002 units sold in October 2022. It was also a YoY de-growth for the Hero Xpulse 200 which fell by 12.62 percent to 2,597 units in the past month from 2,972 units sold in October 2022.Bajaj Avenger sales were up 20.86 percent to 1,993 units from 1,649 units on a YoY basis while Suzuki Gixxer also reported outstanding growth of 104.72 percent to 1,953 units last month.The 2023 Honda CB200X, launched in September 2023 saw sales growth of 990.36 percent YoY to 1,810 units from just 166 units of the older version sold in October 2022. The 2023 Honda CB200X comes in with new graphics, improved features, a revised diamond frame and better suspension while the engine is now OBD-II compliant for real-time diagnostics complying with BS6 P2 emission norms.The top 10 list of 150-200cc motorcycles also included the Kawasaki W175 with 59 units sold last month. It was also launched in September 2023 and is offered in two colour options of Ebony and Special Edition Red priced at Rs 1.47 lakh (ex-showroom). More

The bikes are scheduled to debut in India on December 15. With significant future potential, it’s natural for Yamaha to throw its hat into the ring. While MT-03 will be an entirely new product for India, R3 will be a relaunch. As may be recalled, fully faired Yamaha YZF-R3 was available in India in BS4 era. The Indian motorcycle market has evolved since then, in a way that presents significant opportunities for R3 and MT-03.To ensure a premium customer experience, Yamaha R3 and MT-03 will be sold exclusively via select Blue Square dealerships as disclosed before. Deliveries will commence in the same month, following the launch on December 15. Performance is further improved, as Yamaha R3 and MT-03 utilize a lightweight chassis.Yamaha R3 expected coloursBoth bikes have a diamond frame and will be getting USD forks at front and a mono-shock unit at the rear. Braking setup will have disc brakes at both ends, with dual-channel ABS as standard. R3 and MT-03 will have a multi-function digital instrument console. Users can access a range of information such as fuel capacity, gear position, clock, oil change indicator, water temp gauge, real-time and average fuel economy and trip meter.The screen has a simple UI that ensures easy readability and comprehension. The console has Bluetooth connectivity, which can be used to access more features and functions via Yamaha’s smartphone app. No navigation, though.CBU route means premium pricingIn the initial phase, Yamaha will be importing R3 and MT-03 as CBUs. Due to import duty, these bikes won’t have the cost advantage that Yamaha’s mainstream bikes have. It is possible that the CKD route can be considered at a later date based on demand. Pricing for R3 and MT-03 could be more than the respective offerings from KTM and Royal Enfield 650s.2023 Yamaha R3 New ColourPrimary rival for R3 is the upcoming locally manufactured Aprilia RS 457 and KTM RC 390 to some extent. While MT-03 doesn’t have direct comparable rivals, but will take on new KTM 390 Duke.     New Husqvarna Vitpilen 250The new 249cc single-cylinder engine on Husqvarna Vitpilen 250 can generate similar numbers like 31 PS and 25 Nm as its KTM counterpart 250 DukeBajaj Auto, leading Indian 2W and 3W manufacturer is currently making premium single-cylinder motorcycles for three major legacy brands. While KTM and Triumph have seen much success, Swedish Husqvarna, not so much. There seems to be an attempt to reincarnate the brand in India by bringing it in line with new KTM 250 Duke.Husqvarna Vitpilen 250 Spied TestingNew KTM 250 Duke borrows all the good bits from new 390 Duke, except for its engine. We’re talking about all the new and improved hardware and componentry that new 390 Duke packs that make it such a blast to ride. The same componentry is now being passed on to upcoming Husqvarna Vitpilen 250.For starters, Husqvarna is keeping the whole Swedish minimalist design ethos alive with upcoming Vitpilen 250. Which is a good thing for all the folks that are turned off by KTM’s wild designs. The muscular fuel tank has neat clean lines radiating neo-retro appeal along with all the body panels.Main frame seems to be shared with KTM counterparts, while subframe is all new. Rear seat is flatter and seems to have more room for a pillion along with a prominent old-school grab rail. Tail section is new and now houses tail lights, turn indicators and a number plate that is in rear mudguard with current model.New Husqvarna Vitpilen 250 profileAlloy wheels are new and so are the braking components. Banana-shaped swingarm, single-sided mono-shock rear suspension setup is identical to that of 250 Duke.
