    2022 Honda Civic Type R Revealed in Prototype Form

    Honda has shared the first official photos of the next-generation Civic Type R.The new model will arrive in 2022 and is based on the eleventh-generation Civic hatchback.It has similar add-ons as the current model but looks more attractive to our eye due to the new Civic’s less tortured lines.We have our first official glimpse of the new Civic Type R courtesy of these photos Honda shared of a prototype model covered in a bit of camouflage. It’s a pretty revealing look at the latest hot hatchback, which looks far better than its predecessor but maintains its aggressive stance with a body kit, a big wing on the back, and a serious wheel and tire package.Again based on the Civic’s four-door hatchback body style, we can see that the new Type R is wearing Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires wrapped around some nice-looking ten-spoke black wheels. Red Brembo brake calipers are visible, too. A big rear wing and three exhaust tips dominate the rear view.

    Honda isn’t sharing many technical details at this point, but we expect the new model to use the same turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four as the outgoing car, likely tuned to produce a bit more than the current 306 hp and 295 pound-feet. Honda has already confirmed that a six-speed manual transmission will be offered, although an optional dual-clutch automatic transmission may join the lineup.More details should be coming soon, as Honda says that the Type R will be revealed in full sometime next year. It’ll go on sale in the U.S. later in 2022, likely with a starting price just under $40,000.

    Two Wheeler Sales Sep 2021 – Hero, Honda, TVS, Bajaj, Suzuki, Royal Enfield

    A total of 14,70,011 units were sold in September in domestic market. YoY sales are down by -17.45%, as compared to 17,80,837 units sold in the corresponding period last year. All except TVS have negative YoY growth in September. MoM growth is up 15.62%, as compared to 12,71,455 units sold in August 2021. Only Suzuki and Royal Enfield have negative MoM growth in September 2021. Exports in September are at 3,38,179 units. While YoY numbers are up by 8.42%, MoM growth is down by -1.99%.

    Hero MotoCorp continues to lead in domestic market, commanding a market share of 34.38%. A total of 5,05,462 units were sold in September. YoY growth is down by -27.51%, as compared to 6,97,293 units sold in September last year. MoM numbers are up by 17.24%, as compared to 4,31,137 units sold in August 2021. Hero relies heavily on its motorcycles to generate volumes. Among the primary contributors are Splendor and HF Deluxe. In September, more than 92% of the company’s sales were contributed by motorcycles.
    At number two in the list is Honda with sales of 4,63,679 units in September. YoY growth is down by -7.43%, as compared to 5,00,887 units sold in September last year. Market share is at 31.54%. MoM growth is up 15.50%, as compared to 4,01,469 units sold in August 2021. Unlike Hero, Honda’s top selling product is its Activa scooter. Other key contributors include CB Shine and Dio.
    TVS is at number three with sales of 2,44,084 units in September. YoY growth is up by 0.96%, as compared to 2,41,762 units sold in September last year. Market share is at 16.60%. MoM growth is 35.60%, as compared to 1,79,999 units sold in August 2021. TVS MoM growth is highest in the list in percentage terms. It is also the only company to register positive growth in both YoY and MoM terms in September.

    Next in the list is Bajaj with sales of 1,73,945 units in September. YoY growth is down by -20.75%, as compared to 2,19,500 units sold in September last year. Market share is at 11.83%. MoM growth is positive at 10.11%, as compared to 1,57,971 units sold in August 2021.
    Suzuki and Royal Enfield take the fifth and sixth spot, respectively. Their YoY and MoM growth are both negative. With sales of 55,608 units in September, Suzuki YoY loss is at -14.71%. MoM loss is at -10.03%. Royal Enfield sales are at 27,233 units, which is YoY and MoM loss of -51.54% and -30.30%, respectively.

    Bajaj continues to dominate international markets with exports of 1,87,091 units in September. YoY growth is up 0.94%, as compared to 1,85,351 units exported in September last year. Market share is at 55.32%. MoM growth is at 3.74%, as compared to 1,80,339 units exported in August 2021.

    TVS is second with exports of 88,427 units. YoY growth is up by 23.55%, as compared to 71,570 units exported in September last year. Market share is at 26.15%. MoM growth is negative at -6.24%, as compared to 94,314 units exported in August 2021.
    Hero is third with exports of 24,884 units in September. YoY and MoM numbers have improved by 35.06% and 9.42%, respectively. Hero market share in exports is at 7.36%. Other OEMs in the list are Honda (19,077 units), Suzuki (12,404) and Royal Enfield (6,296). Among these, only Honda has negative YoY growth.     After Raider 125cc motorcycle, TVS is gearing up to launch its next product. It is likely to be all-new Jupiter 125, a more powerful and better equipped version of existing Jupiter 110cc scooter. Launch date is set for 7th Oct 2021.
    With new Jupiter, TVS will have two products in 125cc scooter segment. While Ntorq is preferred for its superior styling and sporty performance, Jupiter 125 will be more suited for practical, everyday needs.

    To ensure a distinct identity, Jupiter 125 will utilize a new set of styling bits. Components like headlamp, LED DRLs, rear view mirrors, side panels, grab rails, and tail light are expected to be entirely new. Only a limited set of design elements are expected to be borrowed from Jupiter 110.
    New colour options are expected to be made available for all-new Jupiter 125. The existing 110cc Jupiter is available in more than a dozen colour options. Ones that really stand out include Titanium Grey, Matte Blue, Volcano Red, Midnight Black, Pristine White, Royal Wine and Indi Blue. Available colour options are based on the chosen variant.     To match features available with rival scooters in this segment, TVS could introduce things like digital instrument console, USB charger and Bluetooth connectivity for new Jupiter 125. Existing Jupiter 110 is equipped with an analogue instrument console. As it will primarily be positioned as a utilitarian scooter, Jupiter 125 will have ample under seat storage. For reference, Jupiter 110 offers 21-litres of under seat storage. This is good enough for a full-sized helmet.
    It is possible that TVS Smart Xonnect connectivity platform could be introduced with Jupiter 125. This feature is already offered with Ntorq. A number of advanced features can be accessed via Smart Xonnect such as navigation assist, caller ID, last parked location assist, ride stats, and remote backlit illumination control. Overall, around 60 connectivity features are available through this platform. Smart Xonnect could be introduced with top-spec variants of all-new Jupiter 125.

    It is likely that Jupiter 125 will borrow its engine from Ntorq. For Ntorq, the engine is tuned differently based on the variant. For standard variants, the engine is tuned to deliver 9.38 ps of max power and 10.5 Nm of peak torque. For Race XP variant, the numbers increase to 10.2 ps / 10.8 Nm. Race XP variant is the first 125cc scooter in the country to deliver more than 10 hp power.

    As Jupiter 125 will likely target improved fuel economy, its power and torque output could be less than Ntorq.     Rivian's Forever Fund Will Turn Nature into an EV Shareholder

    Scaringe correctly notes that automakers (and the rest of us) cannot continue to build and consume products as we have been for the past century. The “massive industrial complex” that humans have created, he writes, is “rapidly changing the composition of our atmosphere while simultaneously destroying the interlinked natural ecosystems critical for life on the planet. Our current way of life has been enabled by hundreds of millions of years of accumulated plant- and animal-based carbon in the form of fossil fuels. On our current path, we will fully exhaust this stored energy in only a few more generations and, in the process, carbonize our atmosphere, and damage natural ecosystems to such a degree that life as we know it will not be possible.”

    One important detail in Scaringe’s announcement is that Rivian isn’t going to invest some portion of its profits into environmental causes. That would be the very definition of greenwashing, since Rivian is gearing up for an IPO and in some of the paperwork it filed to go public said that it lost $2 billion since the beginning of 2021 and over a billion in 2020. In fact, Rivian will spend around $8 billion building up its facilities and other manufacturing infrastructure through the end of 2023, the New York Times reported. In the Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Rivian specifically said possible investors should not be looking for profits anytime soon: “We do not expect to be profitable for the foreseeable future as we invest in our business, build capacity, and ramp up operations, and we cannot assure you that we will ever achieve or be able to maintain profitability in the future.”

    But equity? Equity is another story. It’s difficult to know exactly what Rivian’s valuation or equity will be, but over the summer sources told Reuters that Rivian could be looking for a valuation somewhere in the $50-to-$80-billion range in its IPO. Institutional investors including Amazon and Ford have already plowed billions into Rivian, but the stock market has not yet had its say. To cite one obvious comparison, Tesla took years to make a profit, but the company was valued at around $700 billion earlier this year, way more than other automakers. Shareholder equity, which can be calculated by figuring out a company’s total assets and then subtracting its total liabilities, isn’t the same as valuation, but the two are connected. However much money Rivian ends up putting into Forever, the fund’s focus will be on what Scaringe called “high-impact climate initiatives” that emphasize “preserving and restoring wildlands, waterways and oceans.” These areas shouldn’t just be protected so they can offer exciting backdrops for drone shots of an R1T off-roading, but because these are exactly the parts of our planet that act as “powerful carbon sinks that pull carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, storing carbon in soil, grasses, trees, shrubs, coral reefs and ocean floor sediments,” Scaringe wrote, and the more valuable Rivian becomes, the more money will be spent on protecting these area. “By putting 1% of Rivian’s equity into Forever, the natural world will become a shareholder in our success,” he wrote. “As our company’s value grows by transitioning our customers to sustainable transportation solutions, so will the value of our impact and philanthropic giving, creating a virtuous cycle of impact.”

    Hop Electric Motorcycle Testing Starts – Revolt RV400 Rival

    Jaipur-based EV manufacturer Hop Electric will soon be expanding its portfolio to include its first electric motorcycle named Hop OXO. The first of test mules are currently being evaluated in real-world conditions. Hop OXO promises to offer an optimal mix of style, comfort, performance and range. Just like the electric scooters, Hop e-bike is expected to be launched at a competitive price point.

    Hop Electric Motorcycle OXO has a sporty design with an aggressive front fascia and sleek body panels. It is likely to have an all-LED setup. Some key features include trendy visor, spear-shaped turn indicators, sleek LED DRLs, single seat design, and short tail section. The bike appears to have an aerodynamic profile, which will ensure streamlined airflow and help extract more miles from the battery.
    It is expected that Hop OXO will be offered in a range of sprightly colour options. Sporty graphics will be part of the package. It will likely have a naked profile with exposed frame sections in contrasting shade. Users can expect comfortable rides, as Hop OXO has an upright riding stance. The e-bike has ergonomically placed wide handlebars and centrally positioned foot pegs.
    Usually, e-bikes come across as bulkier, as they have to carry large battery packs in their belly. Hop OXO does not have this limitation, as its batteries are neatly packed under the fuel tank. Its size and proportions are not very different from standard 125-150cc ICE powered motorcycles.

    Hop OXO top speed, range and specs
    Top speed of Hop OXO is expected to be around 80-90 kmph. The e-bike reaches its top speed in less than 30 seconds. Range is expected to be around 100 km on a full charge. Just like Hop electric scooters, OXO e-bike could be offered with the option of a single or dual battery pack.
    In case of scooters, their range is 125 km with a dual battery pack. Top speed of Hop electric scooters is 50 kmph for Lyf and 60 kmph for Leo. Power output is 2000w for Lyf and 2500w for Leo. Details about power output of OXO electric bike will be revealed soon. Suspension system on OXO comprises standard telescopic forks at front and dual rear shock absorbers. The bike has disc brakes at both ends.
    To eliminate range anxiety, Hop Electric is currently building a wide network of refuelling stations. These will function as recharging as well as battery swapping stations for a seamless user experience. Users who choose the swapping service can get a fully charged battery in just around 20 seconds. From the user’s perspective, battery swapping is more convenient than recharging.
    When launched, Hop OXO electric motorcycle will take on rivals such as Revolt RV400 and Joy e-Monster. It is likely to be priced under Rs 1 lakh. More

    In September 2021, Suzuki did see domestic wholesales decline while exports registered growth. Suzuki two wheeler wholesales fell to 55,608 units in September 2021. Down 14.71 percent from 65,195 units at 9,587 units volume loss. Exports grew to 12,404 units, up 92 percent. Exports grew from about 6.5k units at volume gain of just under 6k units.

    Total sales fell to about 68k units, down from 71,661 units. Volume loss stood at 3,649 units at about 5 percent sales decline. MoM sales decline is reported at 10 percent, down from 61,809 units. Volume loss stood at 6,201 units. Best selling Suzuki two wheelers in India includes Access, Burgman, Gixxer, Intruder. Their newly launched Hayabusa is also the best-selling motorcycle in its segment.
    In the meantime, Suzuki Motorcycle India continues to offer the company’s growing range of products. In an effort to meet with the growing demand, the company have been undertaking steps, as advised by market trends to augment product range. Production capacities today are being far better utilised than earlier months when sales was just about nearing the 50k units mark on a monthly basis.
    Satoshi Uchida, Managing Director, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd. said, “We continue to experience a very strong demand both from the Domestic and Overseas Markets. However, Supply Chain constraints being experienced in the Country and across the Globe have impacted our efforts to cater to the heightened demand. We are hopeful that the situation will improve and we shall be able to fully cater to the demand.”

    Demand from the domestic market is being supported by a strong growth in retail sales which have shown some movement in recent months. As the Indian auto space continues to show signs of recovery, overall sales is expected to be impacted positively. Decrease last year was primarily due to the increasing spread of Covid-19 pandemic. The total standstill that befell the industry resulted in weakening demand for vehicles.
    Suzuki can draw much from its growing base of valued clients for their continued confidence. With industry wide recovery being a slow process, the coming months will be under close scrutiny. While there’s no new product launch around the corner, this isn’t necessarily a niggle. A fair amount of new sales is generated through the distribution of new products and packages of existing products.     A new Bond-movie car exhibit, Bond in Motion, has opened at the Petersen Automotive Museum and will run until October 2022.There are 30 cars from 60 years of Bond films.The exhibit features submarines, motorcycles, a Tuk Tuk taxi, and something called a Wet Bike, too.When the very first Bond movie was filmed in 1962, the whole production had a budget of just one million English pounds, or about what the catering budget would be for a modern Bond film. And since Dr. No was shot on the island of Jamaica in the days before carmakers fought—and often paid—to have their cars featured in movies, the Dr. No crew had to rely on the largesse of the local Jamaicans for cars. Thus, Bond’s first-ever chase scene shows Sean Connery piloting an 80-hp Sunbeam Alpine borrowed from a local resident, who happened to own one of the few sports cars on the island.As you’ll no doubt recall from that movie, Bond had to outrun a hearseful of Dr. No’s murderous henchmen, who were driving a LaSalle hearse from the 1930s. Since the Sunbeam, 007 has now driven everything from Lotuses, Jaguars, and BMWs, to the coming crop of Aston Martins that will be seen in the 3oth installment, No Time To Die, opening October 8 in the U.S. To celebrate all these wheeled wonders, the Petersen Automotive Museum in the heart of Hollywood has opened an exhibit called Bond In Motion that will run until October 30, 2022. So while there’s no immediate rush, you may want to see it before the latest movie premieres.

    “The Petersen Automotive Museum will present a new exhibit celebrating the 60th anniversary of the James Bond film franchise through a highly diverse selection of iconic screen-used vehicles,” the museum stated. “Bond in Motion will be the largest official Bond vehicle display to date in the US, and will feature more than 30 cars, motorcycles, boats, submarines, helicopters and even scale filming models of aircraft from an array of both classic and contemporary Bond films.”

In a MoM comparison, Honda has bettered sales from the previous month. This has helped the manufacturer have its sight set on the omnipresent gap between both manufacturers’ monthly sales.

    Honda 2W reports domestic sales of 4,63,679 units, down 7.43 percent. Volume loss stands at around 37k units, down from just over 5L units YoY. Exports for the month are below 20k units. Volumes are down by about a quarter.
    Down from about 26k units at volume loss of 6.9k units. Total sales fell to 4,82,756 units, down from 5,26,865 units. Sales decline is reported at 8.37 units at volume loss of about 44k units. Best sellers from Honda include Activa, CB Shine, Dio, Grazia, Unicorn, Dream, CB350, etc.
    MoM domestic sales grew by over 15 percent to end the quarter on some positivity. Sales grew from just over 4L units at volume gain of just over 2k units. Exports were down by over third at volume decline of over 10k units. Total MoM growth is reported at 12 percent, up from 4,30,683 units at volume gain of about 52k units.
