Hero Sales, Exports Breakup April 2021 – Splendor, Deluxe, Glamour, Pleasure

Image – Biker Babu Bike hunterHero Splendor and HF Deluxe remained top-selling models in both domestic and exports
The second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic has been extremely disastrous not just healthwise but also financially since businesses across the country came to a standstill once again very much similar to last year around the same time. The auto industry of the country too had to bear the brunt last month when sales plummeted drastically.
Domestic- Splendor, HF Deluxe Lead sales figures
Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest two-wheeler company, witnessed a decline in MoM sales by 37.04 percent in April 2021. The manufacturer was able to sell a total of 3,42,704 units of two-wheelers which is 2,01,836 units less than what was sold the previous month in March.
The list was spearheaded by the brand’s most popular product- Splendor which recorded a sales volume of 1,93,598 units last month as opposed to 2,80,090 units retailed in March this year. This resulted in a decline in MoM sales by 30.88 percent.
It was followed by another entry-level motorcycle HF Deluxe which registered a sales volume of 71,294 units in April. A decline in figure by 73,511 units translated to a negative MoM growth of 50.66 percent.

    Others too register MoM decline
Glamour took third place with 23,627 units in April 2021 as compared to 32,371 units sold the previous month, thus registering an MoM decline of 27.01 percent. Hero’s most popular scooter Pleasure registered sales of 18,298 units last month which was 10,218 units less than the previous month. It recorded degrowth of 35.83 percent. It was followed by Passion at the fifth spot with 17,748 units sold in April. In March, the figures for the 110cc motorcycle stood at 30,464, therefore, recording an MoM decline of 41.74 percent.
Destini (9,121 units), Maestro Edge (4,680 units), Xtreme 160R (2,293 units) and Xpulse 200 (2,045 units) formed the rest of the range for Hero’s domestic portfolio. All two-wheelers recorded negative MoM growths of 35.05 percent, 41.54 percent, 40.29 percent and 17.71 percent.
    Exports
Things weren’t too pleasing for overseas markets as exports were hit badly due to disruption in production. A total of 29,671 two-wheelers were shipped to foreign markets in April this year by Hero MotoCorp.
    Hero Exports Breakup April 2021
In comparison to March 2021, these numbers were less by 2,946 units which resulted in a MoM decline of 9.03 percent. HF Deluxe spearheaded the exports for April with 8,716 units dispatched to overseas markets. With 375 units less than March 2021, it translated to degrowth of 4.12 percent.
HF Deluxe was followed by Splendor which registered exports of 5,194 units in April against 7,106 units dispatched in March. This resulted in a negative MoM growth of 26.91 percent. All models, barring Xpulse 200 and Glamour, recorded a decline in exports. Hero shipped 3,026 units and 3,012 units of both motorcycles, therefore, registering positive MoM growths of 27.41 percent and 219.75 percent. More

Kawasaki Ninja Copycat From China Called Finja 500

Kawasaki Ninja copycat Finja 500Xinshiji Finja 500 is powered by a 500cc parallel-twin motor with a power output of 200 bhp
Chinese automakers are very infamous around the world for blatantly ripping off automotive designs of notable international models. In the past, we have come across Chinese cars and two-wheelers which have shared more than an uncanny resemblance to their overseas counterparts.
Another recent example is Xinshiji Finja 500 which looks like a Chinese version of the new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R. The litre-class superbike from the Japanese manufacturer was given an update last year which saw some cosmetic change and a rise in output. From the looks of it, the designers have done a good job in mimicking the flagship Kawasaki at least in style.
    Finja 500 Design
Almost each and every angle one looks from is reminiscent of the Ninja ZX-10R. Even the paint job and decals wear a familiar look to the signature design from Team Green. Finja 500 is built on a twin-spar frame and carries a design that is hard to ignore.
Some of the highlights include a muscular fuel tank, a raised windscreen, split headlamps, an LED DRL housed in the air intake vent, a stepped-up seat, upswept exhaust and mirror-mounted turn indicators.
    Kawasaki Ninja copycat Finja 500
    Specs & Features on offer
However, we can assure you that Finja 500 only mimics the Kawasaki superbike in its looks and not performance. Unlike the 998cc behemoth pumping out around 200 bhp in Ninja ZX-10R, Finja 500 is powered by a 500cc, parallel-twin engine that kicks out a more modest output of 49.3 bhp.
    Kawasaki Ninja copycat Finja 500
Hardware on the faired motorcycle consists of a Showa’s Balance Free Fork at front and a mono-shock unit at rear. Braking is taken care of by disc brakes on both front and rear ends although it is not known if ABS is present or not.
In terms of features, Finja 500 is equipped with an LED headlight, a digital instrument console and a sleek tail taillamp. The motorcycle rides on designer blacked-out wheels. However, the best thing about this bike is its price. At around an equivalent price of INR 1.46 lakh, Finja 500 would be one of the cheapest middleweight sportbikes in the world.
    Kawasaki Ninja copycat Finja 500
    Ninja ZX-10R Performance
Getting back to Ninja ZX-10R, it is powered by a 998cc oil-cooled DOHC engine which is capable of churning out 200 bhp at 13,500rpm and 115 Nm of peak torque at 11,200rpm. This unit comes paired with a six-speed gearbox with a quick shifter. It can attain a top speed of 300kmph while it can sprint 0-100kmpg in just under 3 seconds making it one of the fastest production bikes on the road currently. More

$15 Million Mansion Has 8-Car Garage, Accessed by Underground Carwash Tunnel

    (c)RMLSMN via Realtor.com

What was originally supposed to be a luxury estate for a high-flying developer in Minneapolis turned into an eyesore when he divorced and later went to jail for tax fraud. A local restaurateur decided to complete the project, complete with an eight-car garage that you drive to through a tunnel with a built-in carwash (sadly, not pictured). An outdoor pool, a private movie theater, and a sauna, plus five bedrooms and nine full baths, mean you really get your money’s worth here.Fifteen million dollars can buy you a lot of house almost anywhere, but only in Minnesota does it get you a home on a private island with an eight-car garage and a hidden access tunnel that features a carwash.

    (c)RMLSMN via Realtor.com

Located on Lake Minnetonka, the gaudy home started as a 2003 idea by then-developer Jeffrey Wirth. Wirth called it the “Isle of Windemere” after the boyhood summer home of Ernest Hemingway, but it was a case of to have and have not for the developer, who stopped construction in 2006, in part because he was going through divorce proceedings. The New York Post said the property “sat half-finished and overtaken by weeds while the price dropped to $4 million” once Wirth got into trouble with the law, and those problems escalated in 2010. In 2012, Wirth was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for tax evasion. Prosecutors said Wirth and his wife paid just $7567 in federal income taxes between 2003 and 2005, despite income of almost $28 million.

    (c)RMLSMN via Realtor.com

With Wirth out of the picture, the unfinished Windemere castle was purchased in 2013 for $1,875,000 by local restaurateur Kam Talebi. The Post says he then spent around $5 million to complete the project and make it look mostly the way Wirth originally planned. The builder with whom Wirth originally worked, David Erotas, came on board to help Talebi finish construction. Erotas told Artful Living Magazine in 2013 that Talebi planned to “scale down the interiors—which were admittedly pretty over-the-top, but many of the unusual features he’s going to keep.”
This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Talebi has now decided to sell the mansion, so if you like the idea of approaching your garage through an underground tunnel with the aforementioned carwash, then you might also love the glass elevator and chandeliers, the marble countertops, and plenty of panoramic windows where you can confirm that the sun also rises over the surrounding lake. There’s an outdoor pool, a small movie theater and bar, and a weight room and sauna, along with five bedrooms and nine full bathrooms. All this for the $15 million plus annual property taxes of just over $71,000.

It’s not that guests are forced to go across the river and into the trees to come visit, but they also don’t have to use the carwash tunnel. There’s a bridge to a terraced motor court, the Post says, where you can get into the garage from the side. Erotas told the local city council in 2014 that forcing visitors to enter the garage gives the owner the “opportunity to screen the entrance from adjoining properties . . . another consideration was security.” Because you never know who might be stopping by to try and snag a free carwash.

Royal Enfield Motorcycles At Par With Japanese, German Products – Sid Lal

Royal Enfield MeteorRiding high on its growing popularity, Royal Enfield will launch multiple products in coming years
In response to media queries, Eicher Motors Ltd. managing director Siddhartha Lal said that Royal Enfield motorcycles are just as good as products offered by Japanese and German manufacturers. Lal was apparently referring to the latest Royal Enfield motorcycles such as Meteor 350 and 650 Twins (Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650).
    High precision manufacturing process
Lal’s claim has already been proven in a laboratory test. Earlier this year in March, FortNine had carried out a test to measure the impurities present in motorcycles of various brands. The objective was to measure the preciseness of manufacturing process. The better the manufacturing process, the lesser impurities will be there in the engine.
Royal Enfield had topped the test in less than 5 micrometres category. It was at par with BMW and had performed better than other manufacturers such as Honda, KTM, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Triumph, Suzuki and Harley Davidson. In less than 15 micrometres test, Royal Enfield was placed second.
Lal said that the company has extremely rigorous processes in place, which ensures world class quality. He said the company does not take any shortcuts when it comes to development and testing of its motorcycles. These are the reasons that explain why Royal Enfield is ahead of German and Japanese manufacturers in several international markets.
    [embedded content]
    After-sales service commitment
Customers buying Royal Enfield motorcycles can be assured of dedicated after-sales services. The company had recently launched a global recall program, in which around 2.37 lakh motorcycles were impacted. These were sold in the domestic market as well as global locations such as Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, New Zealand and Australia.
The recall was announced after the company found the possibility of defective ignition coils in specific batches. It was applicable to motorcycles manufactured and sold during the period from December 2020 to April 2021. The affected motorcycles included Classic, Meteor and Bullet range. It is expected that only around 10% of the motorcycles covered under the recall program would actually require replacement of the faulty coil.
    Covid impact
Just like other manufacturers, Royal Enfield sales have been impacted by Covid related disruptions. FY21 sales were 5.73 lakh units, which is YoY de-growth of 13%. Most of these sales came from the company’s 350cc motorcycles. Around 24k units were contributed by Himalayan and 650 twins.
Lal pointed out that Royal Enfield sales have been consistently improving in recent years. Regular improvements have been made in design and product quality, which has boosted sales. Apart from its bestselling 350cc motorcycles, Royal Enfield also leads in 500cc-800cc motorcycle segment. Of the 11,523 units sold in FY21, the 650 twins contributed 10,256 units.

Maruti WagonR Electric Car To Be Sold As Rebadged Toyota Hyryder ?

Maruti WagonR Electric Toyota Hyryder SpiedToyota is expected to launch a hatchback based on Maruti WagonR which will be battery-powered
Maruti Suzuki has been contemplating on bringing an electric vehicle to India for a very long time. The most likely possibility is an entry-level battery-powered car based on WagonR. However, since reports of the car’s development began, there has been no concrete evidence of an eventual launch.
The Indo-Japanese carmaker is still susceptible to the fact that EVs are still at a very nascent stage in the Indian automotive market and have not reached a stage where they could penetrate into a mass market. In fact, a few months ago, reports surfaced on the internet that Maruti has altogether scrapped the plans of launching an electric derivative of Wagon R.
Until a few days ago, there were no new developments regarding an electric version of the tallboy hatch when a test mule of the same appeared out of nowhere.
However, the most interesting attribute noticed about the prototype was that it was wearing a Toyota logo on its face and wheel caps. This could mean that Maruti Suzuki will likely share WagonR EV with its alliance partner in India. Another set of spy shots have surfaced on the internet giving us a peek into the electric hatch.
Maruti WagonR Electric Toyota Hyryder Spied
    Exterior Design
Like the previous spy video, this unit also resembled the regular petrol-driven WagonR with the same overall design. However, it comes with subtle variations to its exterior styling including new bumpers, a revised side profile, and a completely redesigned front face. The prototype receives all-LED lighting with a sharp-looking split headlamp design at the front.
Other exterior styling highlights include black claddings on front and rear bumpers, black pillars and a blacked-out front grille. Another interesting visual is the larger 15-inch alloy wheels which look similar to the ones seen in Maruti Ignis. The current petrol-powered WagonR rides on 14-inch steel rims with wheel caps. Rest of the car looks identical to its regular sibling.
    Maruti Rebadged models as Toyota
If such a vehicle is indeed being planned to be launched as a Toyota, it does not make sense for Maruti to develop the car and not release it under its own brand name. Hence, it is expected to launch as a Toyota only after it has been launched under its home brand. Toyota has recently registered a new name – HYRYDER, likely to be pronounced as hi-rider. Could this Maruti WagonR Electric version’s rebadge variant be named Toyota Hyryder?
Maruti WagonR Electric Toyota Hyryder Spied
Currently, there is a lot of ambiguity regarding the development of this product and an official word from Maruti or Toyota will only clear the air. As of now, Toyota retails two models namely Glanza and Urban Cruiser which are rebadged Maruti models Baleno and Vitara Brezza respectively. The Japanese company will also launch a rebadged Maruti Ciaz under its own brand name Belta. There is also speculation of Toyota’s MPV which is said to be based on Ertiga.

Finding the Perfect Two-Car Solution: Window Shop with Car and Driver

As much as we’d love to have a vast collection, most car lovers can’t afford, maintain, store, or look after a bunch of cars. Life and income limits many of us to two cars, which inspired this week’s challenge, the two-car solution. We set a generous budget of $40,000 to find the perfect pairing to suit all of our needs wants.Regular viewers will notice that contributor Jonathon Ramsey isn’t on the show this week. Stranded by a shattered windshield in a small-town hotel without decent WiFi means we don’t get to see what sort of unhinged two-car collection he would’ve gathered. So, we invited back Luke Sellenraad, a C/D staffer and now GM-employee. Sellenraad chooses a 2003 S2000 and a 2010 Lexus GX460. We could see Ramsey choosing both of those, but probably not at the same time. Road & Track’s newest staffer, John Pearley Huffman who rarely reads the challenges and believed the budget to be $30,000, selects two low-mileage Mazdas with manual transmissions. His fun car is a 2006 NC-generation Miata, while his practical choice is the slower-than-slow CX-5 manual. Pearley admits to never having driven the CX-5 with a manual, which leads the rest of the crew to try to warn him about how slow the things are. We also bring up the body roll of the early NCs, but in typical Pearley fashion, he dismisses all of our concerns.Senior editor Joey Capparella follows Pearley down Miata way. However, Capparella’s 2016 Miata is ten years newer and while we can’t fault the vehicle choice, the price seems quite high for a five-year-old Miata with 50,000 miles. To balance his two-seater, Capparella selects a 2011 Acura TSX Wagon that draws respect, but we wish the wagon had been offered with the TSX sedan’s manual gearbox.By the time deputy testing director K.C. Colwell’s choices are revealed, we almost expect to see a two-seater as his “play” car. Colwell presents his Japanese-market 1995 Toyota High-Ace pickup first, leading some of us to think it’s his fun choice, but his enthusiast choice is actually a garnet-red 2008 Lexus IS-F. His 416-hp V-8-powered sedan might not have a manual, but Colwell expects it to outlive everyone else’s choices.Last to present is deputy editor and host Tony Quiroga who opens with a rust-free but slightly ratty 1988 Mitsubishi Montero two-door manual similar to the four-door Montero we compared back in 1991. Pearley believes he sees rust in the radio, which is as ridiculous as that sounds. The remaining $33,000 of the $40,000 budget goes to a fine-looking 1991 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 convertible that looks pleasingly original, but the choice gains no traction with the rest of the shoppers. Pearley, with zero evidence, seems to think that the 911 is a scam. Lots of laughs in this one, but hopefully Ramsey will get a new windshield installed before we record next week.

Electric Opel Manta GSe Is a One-Off Restomod of a Cult Favorite

The 1970s-era Opel Manta was mainly a Europe-market car, although it was sold in the U.S. for four years. The earlier Manta A has become a cult favorite, so it makes sense that Opel chose it as the subject of a restomod to showcase electrification in the Manta GSe ElektroMod.It’s small, light, and low on horsepower and range, but we love it anyway. Too bad Opel has no plans to manufacture one.Few Americans remember the Opel Manta, even though it has been sold here from ’71 through ’75 and, as we wrote in our November 1976 issue, “has always found favor with this magazine.” It’s a different story in Europe, where the original Manta had a successor that was built into the late 1980s. But while the Manta B was long seen as a tacky pseudo-racer, its image just recently beginning to recover, the Manta A has always been regarded as a real designer piece: a car priced for the masses, but of almost stunning beauty and sensuality.Prices for vintage Manta A models have long been on the rise, and given its cult status, it was a natural fit when Opel was looking for a suitable candidate for a restomod as a showcase for electrification. And so Opel’s engineers took a Manta A and turned it into a compact, sporty stand-alone EV that makes us long for a time of smaller, lighter cars—and perhaps even look forward to an electrified future.

    Opel

The original Manta was fitted with 1.2-, 1.6-, and 1.9-liter four-cylinder engines, rated between 60 and 105 horsepower; the top-of-the-line GT/E was rated at 117 mph and took around 11 seconds for the zero-to-60-mph sprint, underscored by Opel’s typical brawny sound.

The electric conversion bumps power to 147 horsepower, which are still transmitted to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. Rowing through the gears is possible but not necessary. You can also just leave it in fourth gear. The instantly available 188 pound-feet of torque renders the first three gears strictly optional. The relatively small 31.0-kWh battery pack, which can be recharged at 9 kW, limits range to a modest 125 miles, but it also helps keep weight at just around 2500 pounds. This EV is nimble and likes to be tossed around corners, especially since its 195/40R-17 front and 205/40R-17 rear tires, on Ronal wheels, provide far more grip than the Manta’s original rubber.

    Opel

Opel calls the one-off EV the Manta GSe even though, back in the Manta A’s time, the GS and GS/E designations were reserved for the upmarket Commodore range. Visually, it is a highly successful restomod effort: the glass and panels remain untouched, the chrome bumpers are gone, the quad headlights make way for Opel’s current headlight style, and the quad taillamps are replaced with LED units. The black hood, a signature element of Opel’s sporty models, remains, and the “visor” that takes the space of the grille can display messages, such as the slightly cringeworthy “I am on a zero e-mission.”

The interior is enhanced with ultra-futuristic display panels, the original airbag-less steering wheel gets a 12-o’-clock mark, and the headliner is now clad with Alcantara. As a fun touch, the recuperation rate can be adjusted with a classic slider positioned below the central screen.Keeping sensitivities of the collector scene in mind, Opel is quick to point out that the Manta GSe was created from a car that needed restoration anyway; no pristine example has been touched. And they even point out that it would be possible to revert this example to its original condition. To which we say: Don’t do it. And figure out how to put this one into production.
