- The Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 4Matic SUV will be the first SUV in the Maybach lineup, and it’ll start at $161,550.
- That starting price makes the Maybach GLS600 cheaper than the other Maybach offerings, including the S560 and S650 sedans.
- The Maybach GLS600 will go on sale later this year.
When you combine Maybach with an SUV, one would expect it to command a starting price higher than the Mercedes-Maybach S560 and S650 sedans. But, Mercedes-Maybach announced that won’t be the case with the 2021 Maybach GLS600 4Matic as it will start at $161,550, making it competitive with its ultra-luxury peers such as the Aston Martin DBX and the Bentley Bentayga.
The Mercedes-Maybach GLS will be powered with an electrified twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine, a divergence from the twin-turbo V-12 offered in the S650. The engine in the Maybach GLS will churn out 550 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque, and the integrated 48-volt starter/generator can up that by 21 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, albeit briefly. That engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission which helps bring this SUV to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds.
Elsewhere, this Mercedes-Maybach is eye-catching and chauffeur-ready. This Maybach GLS, unlike the standard one, will be offered with only two rows, and the second row can be outfitted with either a pair of reclinable seats or a three-seat option. A chrome-clad grille and a two-tone paint option make it known without a doubt that this is a Maybach.
The Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 will reach dealers later this year.
