Bajaj Avenger BS6 models (Street 160, Street 220 and Cruise 220) arrive at dealerships from a starting price of around 89,500 ex-showroom.
With BS6 emission norms kicking in by the start of April 2020, OEMs operating in almost all categories of the Indian automotive market are busy updating their products to the new regulations. Many have already updated their existing range to BS6 specifications while some others have taken the opportunity to introduce all-new models for the new decade.
Bajaj Auto has also started rolling out BS6-compliant versions of its popular models. Almost the entire range of the Bajaj Pulsar has received the update over the past few weeks and they might be already available at your nearest dealership. Now, the Avenger cruiser range (which shares its internals with the Pulsar) has started arriving at Bajaj showrooms in BS6 avatars.
Bajaj Avenger BS6 Prices | Ex Sh |
---|---|
Avenger 160 Street BS6 | Rs 89,536 |
Avenger 220 Street BS6 | Rs 1,15,134 |
Avenger 220 Cruise BS6 | Rs 1,15,134 |
At present, Bajaj sells three variants of the Avenger cruiser motorcycle: Street 160, Street 220 and Cruise 220. Starting with the entry-level model, the Bajaj Avenger Street 160 BS6 is priced at around Rs 89,500; higher by Rs 7,000 compared to the old BS4 model. Meanwhile, both the Street 220 and Cruise 220 variants of the Bajaj Avenger BS6 carry a price tag of roughly Rs 1.15 lakh. The figure is up by around Rs 11,500 over their outgoing BS4 counterparts.
Changes in the Bajaj Avenger BS6 models mainly come in the form of a new fuel-injection system and a reworked exhaust. The company has not revealed the revised output of the BS6 models and we expect it to be marginally different (usually lesser) from that of the outgoing BS4 power plants. Many new BS6 two-wheelers have debuted with slightly lesser output figures compared to its previous BS4 counterparts.
In the carburetted BS4 format, the Avenger Street 150 makes 14.8bhp and 13.5Nm from its 160.3cc motor. On the other hand, the bigger Street 220 and Cruise 220 generate 18.76bhp and 17.5Nm from its 220cc motor. Both engines come mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
Being fuel-injected, the new BS6 Bajaj Avenger might be a bit more refined and extra-responsive to the throttle. Fuel-efficiency could also become better since an electronic fuel-injection system usually ensures optimal combustion across a wide RPM range. A conventional carburetted system depends on a lot of outside parameters (environmental) to function in the best way. However, a fuel-injection or FI system is generally more expensive (as evident from the new BS6 prices) since it incorporates many sensors and other essential electronic components.
