At their 2025 Community Day, Bengaluru-based electric mobility solutions provider, Ather Energy, showcased EL Platform underpinning the EL01 Concept which will underpin their upcoming affordable scooters. Now, Ather Energy has filed a design patent in India which looks somewhat similar to EL01 Concept. Let’s take a closer look.
2026 Ather Affordable Scooter Patented
Currently, Ather Energy has one platform which underpins two of its model lineups – 450 and Rizta. The sporty 450 lineup spawns 450 S, 450 X and 450 Apex, while Rizta is more practical family-format scooter offered in Rizta S and Rizta Z variants.
Some months ago, Ather Energy showcased EL01 Concept at their 2025 Community Day which was underpinned by the new EL Platform. This new platform is said to be Ather’s most ambitious project which will spawn at least three electric scooters owing to its modular nature, able to adapt to multiple genres of EVs.
Now, a new design patent from Ather has emerged on the internet which shows an upcoming Ather electric scooter which looks a lot like EL01 Concept showcased a few months ago. EL01 Concept bore a family-format electric scooter design, which its production-spec model is also carrying. In some ways, this design reminds us of TVS Orbiter.
Overall design is quite clean with headlights on handlebar cowl and a wide LED DRL with integrated turn indicators on the front apron. Because it is a family-format scooter, practicality is paramount and there is a flat floorboard along with storage provisions behind the apron. Seat is single-piece, but has a step for pillion.
There is even a pillion backrest, similar to what we saw in EL01 Concept. Unlike the concept, production model patented gets mirrors as well. Side body panels get a single crease to add contrast. Speaking of contrast, EL01 Concept had a Neon colour for floor board and seat, which could be carried-forward with production-spec model too.
What to expect?
The wheels on 2026 Ather affordable scooter patented in India look different to EL01 Concept. It looks like Ather could offer 14-inch front and 12-inch rear alloy wheels, similar to TVS Orbiter. When launched, this scooter will offer battery pack options between 2 kWh and 5 kWh, owing to its modular nature.
Coming from Ather, this upcoming affordable scooter will be loaded to the gills with features and technology, but could be bundled in a Pro Pack that costs extra. It might feature the same 7-inch TFT touchscreen that does duties in 450 and Rizta scooters and a host of safety features as well. Expected launch timeline for this scooter is 2026 festive season.
