The year 2025 is set to electrify the Indian automotive market with a lineup of exciting new electric cars from brands like Tata, Mahindra, Hyundai, Maruti, Toyota, and Kia, promising innovation and sustainable mobility.
Calendar year 2025 started today, leaving 2024 behind. We have compiled a list of major car launches that happened in 2024, as a roundup. With the new calendar year, there’s a prospect of new car launches in the mainstream segment. Especially within the now thriving and growing electric car space. Let’s take a look at all the mainstream electric cars launching in 2025.
1. Hyundai Creta EV
We have to start this list with Hyundai Creta EV because it is confirmed to launch on January 17th, 2025. This will be one of the most important car launches too, as this is the first time a Hyundai EV is being offered to mainstream audience. It will get EV specific design elements inside and out, along with a large enough battery pack to promise around 400 km on a single charge.
2. Mahindra BE 6
The rockstar of India’s electric cars, Mahindra BE 6 has been partially launched in India for a starting price of Rs 18.9 lakh (Ex-sh) for Pack 1. Mahindra will launch higher variants along with larger battery options of BE 6 (BE 6e) in 2025.
3. Mahindra XEV 9e
Just like BE 6, Mahindra will launch higher-spec variants with larger battery options of XEV 9e in 2025 as well. The company has revealed base price of XEV 9e, which starts from Rs 21.9 lakh (Ex-sh). These are some of the most anticipated and hyped products in India and they happen to be electric, with respect to their powertrains.
4. Tata Harrier EV
Rivaling the recently unveiled Mahindra XE 9e, Tata Motors will launch Harrier EV in 2025. This vehicle has been spied testing on multiple occasions and has been spied with dual-motor layout along with upgraded Terrain Response Modes for better off-roading.
5. Maruti Suzuki eVitara
This is the first time Maruti Suzuki and even Suzuki Global have ventured into a fully-electric global car. Called eVitara, it encapsulates Suzuki’s vision towards electric future. Specs and features are revealed and it will feature a dual-motor AWD layout with some off-road capability. Battery size goes till 61 kWh.
6. Toyota Urban Cruiser EV
Based on the Suzuki eVitara, Toyota is launching a badge-engineered product called Urban Cruiser EV. Both will share identical battery and powertrains along with identical interiors. There are a few exterior design elements, especially at the front and rear for visual distinction. Both will be produced at Maruti’s Gujarat plant.
7. Mahindra XEV 7e
The launch of Mahindra XEV 7e is evident too and most of the specs and details are already known. It will be Mahindra’s first 3-Row electric SUV based on INGLO platform. It is essentially an electric version of XUV700 and will feature a dual-motor AWD setup.
8. Mahindra XUV3XO EV
Sticking with Mahindra, the company has yet to update XUV400 EV. Spy shots have confirmed that XUV3XO EV will take the same shape as XUV3XO. This includes XUV3XO’s sub 4m length constraint, making production a lot more streamlined. It might carry forward the same battery options along with that lovely 310 Nm electric motor.
9. Kia Carens EV
There are a few test mules of Kia Carens facelift spied in India. Some speculations suggest that Kia India is also testing an electric version of Carens facelift at the same time. When launched, it will be a unique proposition offering a 3-row layout in electric car segment. It might share same battery and motor as Hyundai Creta EV. Launch is likely in 2025.
10. Kia Syros EV
The recently unveiled Kia Syros has made quite a few headlines. But one of those headlines is that it will spawn an electric version. This is exciting news, considering Kia Syros is a spacious and comfortable sub 4m SUV, loaded to the gills with safety tech and features. Powertrain details are not clear at this point.
11. Tata Sierra EV
Among India’s most iconic cars, Tata Sierra, is making a comeback, but in a 5-door guise, this time around. It will be launched in both EV and ICE guises. Sierra EV is speculated to launch first and we can expect to see one in dealerships by 2025 end. It might feature the same battery and motor options as Harrier EV.
12. Honda Elevate EV
When Honda launched Elevate SUV, the company confirmed that there would be an electric version. However, most of Honda’s testing happens abroad and we will not see test mules in India until the spur of the moment. Same might be true with Elevate EV and one can speculate that Honda has already commenced testing of Elevate EV somewhere in secret.
13. Renault Kiger EV
After making just one appearance in ready-to-launch guise, Renault Kiger EV seems to have disappeared completely. It had almost the same design and silhouette as standard Kiger, with a EV-specific design like a closed-off grill and front charging port beneath the large Renault logo. We hope Renault is still testing Kiger EV and probably launch it in 2025.
Apart from these SUVs, there are other expected electric car launches from mainstream brands like BYD, MG and others. There are speculations of Citroen launching an electric version of Aircross SUV and Basalt. However, the excitement around Citroen’s upcoming products are meek, at best.
