Maruti Suzuki debuted its first electric car, the eVitara, at the 2025 Auto Expo. Launch is expected soon, as competition in this space has been intensifying. Ahead of the price reveal, unofficial bookings have commenced for Maruti eVitara. After eVitara, we will also witness the launch of its Toyota counterpart, to be named Urban Cruiser EV.
Maruti eVitara Bookings Start Unofficially
Similar to the Grand Vitara, the eVitara could have three variants on offer – Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The base variant could get a 49-kWh battery pack, whereas higher variants will be equipped with a 61-kWh battery pack. Claimed range with the larger battery pack is 500 km. The battery packs are optimized for performance and also designed for enhanced safety.
eVitara’s high-capacity battery pack comprises 120 lithium-ion based cells. These have been tested to perform reliably in even extreme temperatures of -30°C to 60°C. eVitara’s battery packs are equipped with an advanced thermal management system that includes a low-ion coolant.
Specialized battery mounting structures with robust shock-absorbing features have been used to ensure that eVitara can handle the stresses of real-world conditions. The battery pack has passed several extreme tests such as nail penetration, water submergence (IP67) and compression. These tests ensure a safe driving experience. Maruti eVitara has driving modes of Eco, Normal and Sport.
There’s a Snow Mode as well for safely negotiating across snow or slippery conditions. However, eVitara will be available only in a 2WD configuration. AWD option may not be available for the Indian market. An advanced regen system is installed to increase real-world range. For efficient and hassle-free driving in heavy traffic, the eVitara has a One Pedal drive feature.
Advanced aerodynamics to improve efficiency, performance
Maruti eVitara features smooth curves and contours designed to reduce air drag. The R18 aerodynamic alloy wheels, smart grille with adaptive shutters, underbody cover and roof end spoiler improve aerodynamics. The dynamic and fluidic design ensures enhanced performance and range.
This aerodynamic approach to eVitara’s design also ensures an elegant profile for the SUV. Overall look and feel are further enhanced with a futuristic front fascia and distinctive 3-point matrix LED DRLs and tail lights. eVitara has dual-tone interiors with premium soft-touch materials. Some of the key highlights include vertically stacked AC vents with chrome garnish, twin deck floating centre console, ambient lighting and a fixed glass sunroof.
eVitara has a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch multi-information display, front ventilated seats, a wireless charger and a premium sound system by Harman. Maruti Suzuki is offering ADAS Level 2 with the eVitara. It includes features such as blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, adaptive high beam system, rear cross-traffic alert and adaptive cruise control.
Standard safety features include 7 airbags, an electronic parking brake, all-wheel disc brakes, 360° view cameras and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Maruti eVitara will be sold via the premium NEXA dealerships. It could be launched at a starting price of around Rs 15 lakh.
