Upcoming Hero Xoom 160 will cater to a niche market segment and rival the likes of Yamaha Aerox 155
India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp, is expanding its portfolio to include bigger capacity vehicles. In the motorcycle segment, the company has already introduced the Mavrick 440. Hero Xtreme 250R and XMR 250 are also in the works. In the scooter segment, Hero will be introducing the Xoom 160 ADV-style scooter.
New Hero Xoom 160 – Key highlights
Although maxi-style scooters are popular in other Asian markets, they haven’t been able to generate significant fan following in India. However, as consumer preferences keep evolving, new products such as Hero Xoom 160 could have great potential for the future. As of now, this segment has limited options such as Yamaha Aerox 155. Hero will be looking to deliver a similar experience as the Aerox, all while ensuring that its first 160cc scooter is accessible at an affordable price point.
Latest spy shots reveal that most of the features are the same as showcased by Hero last year in January. Some of the key highlights include twin LED headlamps with LED DRLs, a large windscreen, ADV-style front beak and muscular body panelling. Turn indicators are halogen units. The seat looks comfy and there are thick grab rails for the pillion rider. Features like an upswept exhaust and dual-purpose tyres indicate that Hero Xoom 160 will have the capability to tackle mild to moderate off-road tracks.
Keyless entry, digital instrument cluster
Targeted primarily at the younger generation, the Hero Xoom 160 offers a range of advanced features. For example, the scooter has a completely keyless setup. Handle lock/unlock and ignition ON/OFF are handled with a key fob. Even the seat lock can be opened via the key fob. There’s a dedicated button at the front as well for unlocking the seat. Hero Xoom 160 has a Bluetooth enabled fully digital instrument cluster. Users should be able to access a range of connectivity features including turn-by-turn navigation.
Focus on practicality
Hero Xoom 160 comes with a large underseat storage. It can store a full-sized helmet and other small items as well. The fuel tank and the fuel filling cap are centrally located. This ensures a seamless and hassle-free fuel filling experience. Yamaha Aerox 155 has a similar setup, which implies that users can expect the same level of practicality with both scooters.
Hero Xoom 160 – Performance
Powering Hero Xoom 160 will be a 160 cc, liquid cooled engine that makes 14 bhp. In comparison, the Aerox has a 155 cc, liquid cooled engine that makes 14.75 bhp. Xoom 160 has standard telescopic forks at front and dual rear shock absorbers. Both wheels have disc brakes and single-channel ABS will be offered as standard. Aiming for a competitive price point, Hero MotoCorp could introduce the Xoom 160 at around Rs 1.20 lakh. Rival Yamaha Aerox 155 is available at a starting price of Rs 1.49 lakh.
