- The 2015 action movie Mad Max: Fury Road featured some of the most spectacular vehicle stunts ever filmed, and now you can buy some of the cars that were put through their paces in the desert to get those shots.
- A total of 13 vehicles from the set will be up for sale, including the famous War Rig tanker truck and plenty of convoy vehicles.
- Bidders will have just two days, September 25 and 26, to make their secret bids, and they won’t know what other people are offering in this tender. If that seems a bit cutthroat, remember what movie it is we’re talking about here.
Get ready for some of the most absurd TikTok videos ever. Later this month, 13 of the heavily modified vehicles from the 2015 post-apocalyptic road trip movie Mad Max: Fury Road will be put up for auction. We can already imagine some bitcoin millionaire buying one just to dress up a friend as the Doof Warrior and go for a joy ride.
The vehicles run the gamut from the massive War Rig tanker truck to the modified 1973 XB Ford Falcon coupe called the Razor Cola. There’s also a hot-rodded version of a 1932 Chevrolet coupe and a Ford F-250 outfitted with a huge claw on the back that was called the Sabre Tooth, and more, including the Doof Wagon (top), perhaps the most iconic of all the vehicles thanks to countless speakers and the Doof himself.
The company running the auction, Lloyds Auctioneers and Valuers, fully understands what it’s selling here, getting into character for the item descriptions. For example, in explaining what the War Rig tanker is all about, the auction house writes: “Mutant lovechild of semi-trailer and hot rod, twin V8s end to end, six-wheel-drive, eighteen-wheeled leviathan charged with the barter of fluids and firearms that binds the three city-states of the Wasteland in tenuous alliance.” For the Jag Flamer convoy car, the auction listing description reads: “The sandblasted and shiny chassis speaks of construction once upon a time in GasTown, but it has now found fame as part of Furiosa’s convoy: such is recycling in the shifting sands of the Wasteland.”
At this point, none of the actions have a minimum bid listed, and we may never know what they end up selling for, either. This isn’t your typical auction where people bid one another up. Instead, the vehicles are being sold as a tender, which means prospective buyers submit sealed bids and the seller will simply choose the winning amount from among the submissions. Bidders will also only have two days to submit their bids—September 25 and 26—and they will never see what other people offer. The more we think about it, this kind of fierce bidding is full-on appropriate to buy one of the cars from Mad Max: Fury Road.
It’s a good time to be auctioning off these vehicles, too, since there’s news buzzing around about the prequel that director George Miller is working on. The new film will focus on the back story for Imperator Furiosa, the role played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road. The film’s release date was recently pushed back to 2024 instead of summer 2023.
