The Ultraviolette F77 is slated to be launched sometime next year in a phased manner
Like in most parts of the world, India’s e-mobility scene has been spearheaded by disruptive startups rather than well established mainstream players. However, the big names usually do support such startups in the form of funding or a technological partnership.

Bangalore-based high-performance electric motorcycle startup Ultraviolette Automotive which has come up with the snazzy F77 sportsbike has received an additional investment of INR 30 crore through series B funding from TVS Motor Company. The new investment is expected to the young EV startup the much needed shot in the arm to realize its goal of launching India’s first high-performance electric motorcycle.
The first product
The Ultraviolette F77 pre-production prototype which was unveiled at in November 2019 is a product of a three-year research and development project. The electric sportsbike not only looks snazzy, it also incorporates advanced technologies and modern connectivity.

Speaking about the future plans, the company’s founder and CTO Niraj Rajmohan stated that the team has already made several positive strides on the concept in preparation for the production version. The motorcycle benefits from advanced simulation-based development process and multi-level safety systems. The motorcycle is being tested on track as well as on road and several improvements have already been made over the pre-production concept.
Specifications
The Ultraviolette F77 is powered by a 25 kW (33.5 hp) PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) which has an impressive torque output of 90 Nm. It is capable of accelerating from 0-100 kmph in 7.5 seconds on its way to a claimed top speed of 147 kmph. The bike is equipped with 3 units of modular removable lithium-ion battery packs with a max capacity of 4.2 kWh. Standard charging takes 5 hours while fast charging takes 1.5 hours.
The F77 has a claimed range of 130 to 150 km on a single charge. The motorcycle employs a single-reduction gear to transfer drive to the wheel and it also has a reverse mode. Riding modes include Eco Mode, Normal Mode and an Insane Mode.
Equipment
Salient features of the tech-laden Ultraviolette Automotive F77 include a comprehensive infotainment system which includes LED headlamp and taillight, dual-channel ABS, USD front fork, rear monoshock, 4G LTE connectivity, OTA updates, GPS enabled vehicle locator, ride analysis and geo fencing, multiple onboard sensors to enable various features, preventive maintenance, diagnostics and analysis.
Launch
The series B funding from TVS Motor Company would come in handy for Ultraviolette Automotive to move ahead with the planned launch of F77 next year in a phased manner. The motorcycle is expected to be introduced in select markets before it is made available across the country in due course.
