Lucid Shows Future Electric SUV, Project Gravity, Coming Soon

  • Project Gravity, the working name for a future Lucid SUV, was glimpsed at the reveal of the Lucid Air electric sedan on Wednesday afternoon.
  • “We’re not just launching a car, we’re launching a brand,” the company said, promising to “elevate even further” with further models based on the same architecture as the Air.
  • In the next seven to 10 years, Lucid promises, it will explore “a whole range of product possibilities” based on the Air’s electric platform.

Electric-car startup Lucid Motors revealed its eagerly awaited luxury electric sedan, the Air, on Wednesday afternoon, September 9, in an online event, and during the presentation teased an upcoming SUV. To be built on the same platform as the Air, the crossover-style vehicle is currently named Project Gravity.

Few details are available yet other than that this will be the next in what Lucid plans as a full lineup of electric vehicles in the coming decade. There has reportedly been a working prototype spotted testing this summer, and the company said it expects the Gravity to be ready in the next “couple of years.”
