2022 GMC Hummer EV Will Crab-Walk into World Series and 'The Voice' Tomorrow

  • GM’s advertising blitz for its revived Hummer vehicles—this time, as all-electric beasts—starts Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. ET on two popular shows on two TV networks, as the Detroit News first reported.
  • Online versions of the launch ads will be available as well, and you can watch the new pickup revealed right here on our site.
  • GM will start taking orders for the 2022 Hummer EV pickup coinciding with the ad takeover. If you’re more interested in the planned SUV version of the electric Hummer, you’ll have to wait until GM is ready to reveal more details on that model at some point in the future.

General Motors wants all eyes on its electric Hummer this week. That’s why the automaker is taking over for a few moments during both the first game of baseball’s World Series and The Voice music show tomorrow night, October 20.

As Phil Brook, GMC’s vice-president of marketing, was quoted by the Detroit News: “In terms of audience reach, we anticipate this will be one of the brand’s most ambitious stand-alone campaigns ever.”

Tuesday’s launch advertising will include what GM is calling a short film—i.e., an ad—that GMC spokesman Chad Lyons said in a statement would be “creatively integrated” during commercial breaks in Game 1 of the World Series on NBC as well as in the popular music show on Fox. GM will also stream the full unveiling of the GMC Hummer EV, and a longer version of the ads will be available at the GMC website. While you wait, LeBron James, using the hashtag #GMCAmbassador, is hyping the upcoming pickup on Twitter.

We don’t yet know the exact content of the various Hummer EV ads, but based on the teaser image GM released last month—which includes a small crab on the sand next to the Hummer EV’s tires—expect the vehicle’s sideways movement capability, known as Crab mode, to be part of the pitch. We won’t be at all surprised to see mention of the electric Hummer’s other details, like the electric vehicle’s 1000 horsepower, 11,500 lb-ft of torque, and claimed zero-to-60-mph time of just 3.0 seconds, either.

GMC will start taking orders for the revived Hummer pickup/SUT once the reveal blitz starts up tomorrow. An SUV version of the Hummer is also planned, but details and advertising for that will have to wait.

GM will build the Hummer EV at its rebranded Factory Zero (formerly known as the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant), and deliveries of the pickup are scheduled to start in the fall of 2021.
