- Joining the low-cost/high-value Cooper Oxford Edition for 2021 is a similarly equipped Countryman Oxford Edition model.
- Originally intended to attract college students to the Mini brand, the Oxford Edition model offers attractive prices combined with desirable standard equipment.
- Buying an Oxford Edition model no longer requires active college enrollment as these special editions are open to everyone.
What would you say to a Countryman that offers more standard equipment than the base model version but for less money? That sounds like a great deal, right? Mini has introduced an Oxford Edition special edition of the Countryman SUV for 2021 that does just that.
Based on the base Countryman with front-wheel drive—which normally retails for $29,950—the Oxford Edition adds heated seats, 18-inch wheels with run-flat tires, and your choice of six metallic paint colors with either a body-colored or contrasting black or white roof for $27,350. The Countryman Oxford comes with a 134-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is optional and adds $2000 to the price tag; ordering this feature also swaps out the seven-speed transmission with an eight-speed unit.
Like the Cooper Hardtop Oxford Edition, the Countryman Oxford Edition is intended to draw young, first-time buyers to the Mini brand but luckily the company has dropped its previous requirement of active college enrollment so these value-packed models can be ordered by anyone who happens to want one. How can they make this happen you ask? We wondered that too, but Mini officials explained that they can offer these at such a discount by refusing to offer incentivized leases or rebates on Oxford Edition models and setting a fixed, no-negotiation-needed price.
Unless you’re needing to lease your next Countryman or you’re planning on upgrade to the more powerful S model, the Oxford Edition model seems to be a no-brainer, especially if you’re not eyeballing a higher-end model or something highly customized. Orders open soon for the 2021 Countryman Oxford Edition with deliveries expected to start early next year.
