  • GMC’s Hummer subbrand will also launch an all-electric SUV model in addition to the previously announced Hummer pickup.
  • The Hummer truck will be called GMC Hummer EV SUT and the SUV will be called GMC Hummer EV SUV.
  • The pickup makes its debut May 20, 2020 while the SUV will arrive later.

The Hummer EV pickup will be joined in GMC dealers by a Hummer EV SUV. We expect this electric SUV to match the performance of the pickup, which GM has previously said will make 1000 horsepower and go from zero to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds.

Using GM’s new EV architecture, the battery packs for both the Hummer pickup and SUV will likely be able to store as much as 200.0-kWh of electricity, about double what’s currently available from Tesla’s largest battery packs. GM manages that much capacity by stacking battery modules in two layers, creating a massively thick pack that we estimate is roughly 18 inches tall. GM estimates that this battery could provide a range of up to 400 miles on a single charge.

As a result, both versions of the Hummer EV tower over the road. During a preview of eleven future electric GM vehicles, Car and Driver saw models of the Hummer pickup, which will be called SUT, and the SUV. Both vehicles will feature removable roof panels over the front and rear passengers. The two vehicles are stylistically identical from the rear doors forward. Both vehicles feature angular fenders jutting out from the body and a chunky C-pillar that slopes rearward.

The pickup rides on a longer wheelbase than the SUV to accommodate its five-foot bed. Inside, the Hummers will be offered with a 15-inch infotainment screen and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster.
