Fisker Ocean Takes to the Road in Driving Video

  • In video released by Fisker, the forthcoming electric Fisker Ocean SUV displays a glowing door handle and is shown overtaking an Alfa Romeo Giulia.
  • The electric SUV will have an approximately 80.0-kWh battery pack that supports charging up to 150 kW.
  • Its multi-link rear suspension is connected to an insulated subframe to reduce vibration and road noise.

The Ocean electric SUV isn’t slated to reach its first customers until 2022, but Fisker has just shared footage showing it out on the road. The automaker also shared new details about the upcoming vehicle, including lease pricing, charge rate, horsepower, and the most important feature to make its way into a car ever: head-up-display karaoke lyrics.

The vehicle was supposed to make its European debut at the Geneva auto show. The show has since been canceled due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus.

We get a quick glance of the Ocean’s glowing door handle, light-up badge, and Tron-esque roof, the vehicle cruises down a country lane, merges onto a main road, and overtakes an Alfa Romeo Giulia. Sort of a weird flex, but okay. This is our first opportunity to see the vehicle moving under its own power.

In addition to showing the vehicle silently cruising around, the automaker also shared details about its multi-link rear axle suspension, which is attached to an isolated subframe to reduce vibrations and cabin noise. The cargo space has up to 25 cubic feet of space, and the rear window can be lowered so that longer items can stick out the back.

The base all-wheel-drive Ocean SUV will ship with more than 300 horsepower. Fisker will also offer ultra-higher performance version, also all-wheel drive, and targeting a zero-to-60-mph time under three seconds.

Fisker says that its battery pack will have at least an 80.0-kWh capacity to make possible a range of up to 300 miles, although that number still needs to be tested and verified by the EPA.

Keeping the vehicle changed is a CCS Type 2 combo plug that supports up to 150-kW charging. Fisker has entered into a partnership with the VW Group’s Electrify America, which allows for automatic payments from the vehicle to the charging network. Plus, the automaker plans to offer a free-miles package of complimentary charging. The company will announce details of the charging packages later this year.

None of this information is groundbreaking, but there is one feature that caught our eye: a head-up display option that would display karaoke lyrics. Is this a good idea? Probably not. Checking your speed via a HUD makes sense. Reading out the lyrics to the latest 2 Chainz jam while driving around town might not be the best idea.

It’s joined by a more traditional 16-inch center touchscreen center display with haptic feedback and a 9.8-inch dash cluster.

The Ocean starts at $37,499 with a $379-per-month lease program that requires $2999 down. Interested parties can place a $250 deposit right now to hold their place in line.
