Electric Cadillac Escalade Coming by 2025

  • An all-electric Cadillac Escalade will go on sale by 2025 at the latest.
  • Based on a concept version we saw, it has similar styling to the gas version (pictured) but with a unique body.
  • The electric Escalade will be sold alongside the gas version.

The Cadillac Escalade—that gas-guzzling, leather-lined totem to excess—is going electric. The electrified Escalade will go on sale by 2025 at the latest. Fans of the current Escalade’s 6.2-liter V-8 shouldn’t worry too much, though. GM president Mark Reuss says the electric version will supplement, rather than replace, the Escalade as we currently know it.

The concept version shown to Car and Driver wears unique sheetmetal compared to the redesigned 2021 Cadillac Escalade (pictured). The windshield is more steeply raked and the body is less boxy than the gas model’s, but the electric version is unmistakably an Escalade based on its size and proportions.

The full-size SUV will be built on GM’s new electric architecture and use its new Ultium battery technology. That architecture allows for battery packs as large as 200.0-kWh, which is twice the energy capacity of the largest pack offered in the longest-range Tesla Model X. Sharing hardware with the upcoming GMC Hummer EV SUT pickup and SUV, the Escalade could make as much as 1000 hp using a three-motor setup driving both the front and rear axles.
