Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 rendered in Sportster Cafe Racer format

It was in November 2018 that Royal Enfield introduced its premium 650 Twins. Since then, we have come across numerous renders or builds based on the popular middleweights. With their neatly crafted and accessible modern-classic appeal, the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 offer an excellent platform to make transformations with a commendable balance between form and function. It is very difficult to go wrong with a ‘650’ build unless the designer has a pathetic taste in automotive aesthetics.

Powered by a 648cc air/oil-cooled SOHC parallel twin, the 650 Twins make a healthy output of 47bhp and 52Nm of torque. This is mated to a 6-speed transmission via a slipper clutch. The motorcycles offer decent value for money as well since they are the most affordable twin-cylinder motorcycles available new. Ex-showroom prices start at Rs 2.65 lakh and Rs 2.80 lakh for the 2020MY BS6-compliant Interceptor and Continental GT.

Delhi-based Neev Motorcycles has shared a unique Interceptor 650 build on their social media handles. Dubbed the Typhoon, the render adds cafe racer styling elements on a sportster (a term coined by Harley-Davidson). It is still immediately recognisable as an Interceptor 650 as the central chassis portion remains mostly untouched.

On the other hand, Neev Motorcycles recently unveiled another Interceptor 650 render which looks totally and radically different from its stock form. The power plant is the only giveaway. Named the ‘Y2 650’, it sports a design similar to the exclusive Confederate Hellcat.

Custom-built highlights of the Gloss Blue/Black Royal Enfield Typhoon 650 include fenders, belly pan, bench seat, rear number plate assembly and CNC-machined triple tree. A host of readily-available aftermarket accessories were also added, such as LED lighting, cafe racer handlebars, USD bar-end mirrors, crash guards, sump guard and free-flow exhaust. In usual sportster fashion (like the Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight), either wheel is small and shod with thick-walled tyres.

Do keep in mind that this is still a render made to attract potential clients. Neev Motorcycles states that its ‘Typhoon 650’ build will cost roughly Rs 1.65 lakh. The figure does not include the donor motorcycle’s cost. In other words, the client would have to spend close to Rs 4.50 lakh in total to get an Interceptor 650 in this form.

Neev Motorcycles have undertaken several projects in the past, based on products other than Royal Enfield. One such example is an odd-looking KTM 200 Duke modification done for the Tamil action movie, Hero — check it out.
