Bajaj Sales February 2020 Decline – Pulsar Among Top Seller

Bajaj sales in February 2020 fall while exports increase by 15 per cent to 1,63,346 units as against 1,41,462 units in February 2019

India’s leading two-wheeler manufacturer Bajaj Auto Ltd has released its monthly statement of sales for domestic and export market. The statement also compiles the sales of Bajaj’s commercial vehicles. As per the latest data, two-wheeler sales in domestic markets have reported a significant fall.

Overall sales stood at 1,46,876 units in February 2020 which is down by 21 per cent as against 1,86,523 units sold in February 2019. Exports, on the other hand, surged 15 per cent to 1,63,346 units as compared to 1,41,462 units exported in the same month of the previous year. The figures in domestic and global markets took two-wheeler sales up to 3,10,222 units, which is still down by 5 per cent in the past month as against 3,27,985 units sold in February 2019.

The launch of the new Bajaj Dominar 250, a more affordable entry-level 250 cc version, later this month should bring in better sales results. The much-awaited Dominar 250 is likely to be priced around Rs 1.5 lakh, making it around Rs 40,000 more affordable compared to its larger ‘400’ sibling which shares its platform with the KTM 390 Duke. The company’s most popular Pulsar range, which includes the 125, 150, 180F, 220F and NS 200, have already been updated to meet BS6 emission standards and the company’s first electric scooter, Chetak, went on sale in January 2020.

Total commercial vehicle sales dipped by 31 per cent to 44,691 units in the past month as against 65,104 units sold back in February 2019. Domestic sales dipped by 38 per cent to 21,871 units while exports went down by 24 per cent or 22,820 units in February 2020. The figures brought the total two-wheeler and commercial vehicle sales down by 10 per cent to 3,54,913 units in February 2020, from 3,93,089 units in the same month, last year.

Sales during the period of April-February 2020 saw two-wheeler market going down by 5 per cent. The Chakan-based company which sold 19,79,936 units in domestic markets in 2020 had sold 23,21,107 units in the same period, the previous year. While domestic sales dipped, exports surged 10 per cent to 17,56,656 units. This is up from 15,92,228 units exported in the same period in 2019.

On the hand, commercial vehicle sales in the period declined by 11 per cent to 6,36,045 units from a total of 7,12,817 units in the previous year. These figures accounted for 3,47,630 units of domestic sales and 2,88,415 units of exports in the YTD (Year-To-Date) 2020 period. Sales had stood at 3,60,481 units and 3,52,336 units respectively in the YTD 2019 period. This took the total YTD sales down to 43,72,637 units from 46,26,152 units (a drop of 5 per cent) in February 2019.
