Yamaha India has updated their entire range of motorcycles and scooters to meet BS6 standards

With BSVI emission norms mandated from April 1, 2020, a smooth transition is the need of the hour. And Yamaha India has now announced its BS6 range with price lift. The move is essential considering the heavy losses that will need to be borne if manufacturers don’t make the shift in time.

With processes in place for production management, Yamaha first launched its FZ-FI (149 cc) and FZS-FI (149 cc) BS6 motorcycles in November 2019. This was followed by YZF-R15 Version 3.0 (155 cc) and all new MT-15 (155 cc) BS6. In December, the manufacturer also launched its BSVi 125 cc FI scooters, Fascino 125 FI, Ray ZR 125 FI and Street Rally 125 FI. Earlier this month, Yamaha India introduced its BSVI FZ-25 (249 cc) and FZS-25 (249 cc). No, the manufacturer has announced FZ-25 BS6 models will be available from April 2020. 2020 FZS-25 will be available later in 2020. In 2020, Yamaha India is all set to focus on it 125 cc scooters and premium segment motorcycles. To strengthen this focus, Yamaha Fascino 125 FI Ray-ZR 125 FI and MT-15 BS6 variants are already available on sale.

Yamaha India doesn’t enjoy a big share of the pie when it comes to the two wheeler market here. The market size is a sizeable one, and sees market leaders post about 5 times the volume of Yamaha’s monthly sales. Hero and Honda have a strategic edge in the expansive market. The former commands authority with its bestseller motorcycle, and the latter with its scooter. And most others have a winning product somewhere in the pecking order.

Of the top 10 two wheelers sold each month, Yamaha India doesn’t find a single mention in the top order. The manufacturer did however find a mention in the top exports list in January 2020 at tenth spot with its FZ 150 exports. The company saw a third of its volumes wiped out in January 2020. February 2020 sales are awaited.

In January, its bestselling FZ saw volume contract to 13,957 units, down 22 percent from 18,083 units. Fascino remains the manufacturer’s bestselling scooter. However, Yamaha India isn’t the only manufacturer to be battling sales slowdown. The market epidemic has seen even top-sellers take a hit. Add to this, process changes to accommodate BSVI transition. This is evident in Ray ZR scooter sales for January 2020.
