    Ather Sales Breakup July 2024 – Rizta Beats 450x, 450s, 450 Apex

New Ather Rizta Electric ScooterAther Energy was the 4th best-selling electric two wheeler maker in July 2024 – After Ola, TVS and Bajaj
Following our earlier report on electric two wheeler sales in July 2024, we now talk exclusively about Ather Energy. Sales of Ather topped at 11,088 units in the past month showing off a 37.53% YoY and 39.59% MoM growth. The new Rizta, launched in April 2024 significantly contributed to sales.
    Ather Sales Breakup July 2024
Ather Energy sales which improved by 37.53% YoY to 11,088 was well over 8,062 units sold in July 2023. This related to a 3,026 unit volume growth. It was also a significant growth of 39.59% over 7,943 units sold in June 2024 with a 3,145 unit volume improvement.
    Ather Scooter Sales July 2024
Ather Rizta, the family scooter, launched in April 2024, featured at the top of company sales charts in July 2024. Sales stood at 6,765 units last month to command a 61.01% share on this list. Its MoM sales improved by an astounding 396.33% over 1,363 units sold in June 2024 when it had commanded a share of just 17.16%.
At No. 2 was the Ather 450X. Sales dipped by 63.74% YoY to 2,923 units in July 2024 from 8,062 units sold in July 2023. The Ather 450X currently holds a 26.36% share, down from 52.74% share held in June 2024 when sales had stood at 4,189 units. However, it was also a MoM decline in sales by 30.22%.
    Ather Scooter Sales July 2024
Next on the list was the Ather 450S of which the company sold 1,159 units in the past month. The 450S commands a 10.45% share, significantly lower than a 26.65% share held in June 2024 when sales had stood at 2,117 units. This was a volume decrease by 958 units.
Ather 450 Apex is also a relatively new entrant to the company list, launched in January 2024 and opened for test rides in February. It accounted for sales of 241 units in July 2024. This related to a 12.04% MoM decline over 274 units sold in June 2024.
    Rizta’s Gain Is 450’s Loss
From the Ather sales report, it can be seen that the launch of Rizta made each of the other models take a back step. This is likely because of the higher demand for Rizta as it is a new scooter. Ather has limited production capacity in which they have to manage as per demand. Ather Rizta, presented in three variants, is regaled for several segment first features with the largest seat in its segment, 56 liters of storage space and state of the art safety equipment.
To boost after-sales, Ather Energy is getting ready to launch special service packs. These will address customer’s despair over higher after sales costs and will be offered across the company range that includes the Rizta, 450S, 450X and 450 Apex. More

Mahindra Volkswagen Eye Electric Future with New 50:50 Joint Venture

Mahindra Volkswagen 50:50 Partnership Confirmed?Strategic Collaboration to Focus on Electric SUVs for Indian and Global Markets, Excluding Current Volkswagen and Skoda Models
There have been rumours about a strategic joint venture between Mahindra Auto and Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd (SAVWIPL). Now, a new Economic Times report claims that SAVWIPL has reached advanced stages of negotiations to consolidate a 50:50 partnership with Mahindra Auto. Let’s take a look.
Mahindra Volkswagen Group – 50:50 Partnership
A wholly-owned subsidiary of Volkswagen Group Germany, SAVWIPL was reportedly looking forward to sell around 50% of its stake in India business. While the speculation was not officially confirmed, new report reveals a potential 50:50 partnership with Mahindra Auto. This potential joint venture from both these car manufacturers is supposedly in advanced stages of negotiations. This JV seems to have progressed across multiple rounds of virtual and in-person engagements from both companies.
This comes a couple of months after Skoda Auto Global CEO, Klaus Zellmer, revealed in Prague, that the company has made great progress in looking for a potential partnership with an Indian auto manufacturer. On record, both Mahindra and Volkswagen have refrained from commenting on this development officially. The report further elaborates that this joint venture between VW and Mahindra will prioritize the development and manufacturing of BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) and to some extent, ICE vehicles, for Indian market and exports.
SAVWIPL’s current portfolio including the mainstream offerings from Skoda and VW along with luxury offerings from other brands in the structure will not be a part of this joint venture. There might be an official announcement regarding the same from Skoda and Mahindra by the end of this calendar year.
    Mahindra BE.05 Electric SUV
    What does this JV allow?
This is not the first time Mahindra has partnered with global brands. Mahindra has had associations with Renault, SsangYong (now KG Mobility), Ford and recently, Volkswagen. Mahindra and Volkswagen partnered up for a supply agreement where VW supplied the former with electric vehicle powertrain components for the INGLO platform underpinning the upcoming XUV.e and BE range of EVs.
For SAVWIPL, this partnership could help them achieve a firm footing in world’s 3rd largest car market. Something the company has not managed to achieve on its own, despite being operational here for over two decades. The competition from rival brands along with their cost competitiveness seems to have cornered the brand into looking for a potential partner.
With Mahindra, SAVWIPL will be able to share costs, technology, platforms and mainly, risks. For Mahindra, this JV can help them elevate their electric vehicle portfolio and meet their roadmap of achieving a 30% market share in India’s SUV segment. There will be a major boost in Mahindra’s Electric portfolio with this JV too.

Kijima Modified Suzuki V-Strom SX 250 Improves Touring Capability

Kijima Modified Suzuki V-Strom SX 250In India, Suzuki V-Strom SX 250 is offered in a single variant and three colour options, rivalling Hero Xpulse 200, KTM 250 Adventure
Because Suzuki V-Strom SX is not a true blue off-roader, it tilts more towards touring side. Japanese aftermarket motorcycle parts provider Kijima has come up with a unique concept to increase Suzuki V-Strom SX 250’s touring appeal. This setup is more geared towards accessories and not a complete makeover. Let’s take a look.
    Kijima Modified Suzuki V-Strom SX
Suzuki V-Strom SX 250 is based entirely on the Gixxer 250. It not only shares the same platform with the latter but also borrows several features and also its engine specifications. Ideally suited for both city and highway riding, the SX 250 sees its overall wheelbase extended by 100mm, taking it up to 1,440mm.
Kijima Modified Suzuki V-Strom SX 250
This is for better stability as compared to the Gixxer. It boasts a taller split seat with a beak inspired by the Suzuki DR-Z Racer. The handlebar is new while foot-pegs have been moved slightly forward for a more upright riding stance. There is a bikini fairing and a tall windscreen for wind protection. These are the attributes that make V-Strom SX a capable tourer.
Standard bike from the company misses out on dedicated touring-worthy features and that’s where Kijima comes into action. For starters, there is an LED fog light kit with both white light and yellow light support. This aids in safety and visibility as yellow lights still work best in rainy situations and wet roads. Fancy aluminium and carbon composite ORVMs look nice and offer rear visibility.
Modified Suzuki V-Strom SX 250 – LED Fog Light Kit
Behind the custom smoked K3 windscreen, there is a 5-inch smart touch display installed on mount bar stay which is powered by the bike’s electricals. There are two K3 tactical side bags (13L each with rain covers) with bag supports along with a 30L top box attached to a dedicated box base. There is a custom engine guard too, protecting the heart of the motorcycle in unfavourable events.
    Specs of stock motorcycle
Other than that, we don’t see any other changes, staying true to the stock motorcycle, just like Suzuki had visualised. Other notable elements of Suzuki V-Strom SX 250 are 12 liter capacity, LED tail lamp and double barrel exhaust, 19 inch front wheel wrapped with 100/90 tyre and 17 inch rear wheel wrapped with 140/70 tyre, a ground clearance of 205mm and kerb weight of 167 kg. Overall dimensions stand at 2,180 mm length, 880mm width, 1,355mm height and a wheelbase of 1,440mm.
    Modified Suzuki V-Strom SX 250
There is also a fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity and all rider aids such as call and message alerts along with turn-by-turn navigation, missed call alert and caller ID, last parked location, speed exceed warning, etc. There is also a USB charging port and a rear luggage rack as part of standard package
    Modified Suzuki V-Strom SX 250
Suzuki V-Strom SX 250 also shares its engine with the Gixxer. This includes a 249cc oil-cooled engine that offers 26 bhp of peak power and 22 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The bike gets dual-channel ABS and suspension that includes telescopic front forks and a rear mono-shock. Braking is via single discs on both ends. The engine allows the Suzuki SX 250 to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 9.6 seconds to hit a top speed of 150 km/h with mileage at 36 km/l.

Mahindra BE.05 Electric SUV Glass Roof Spied – Looks Huge

Mahindra BE.05 Electric SUVUpcoming Mahindra BE.05 has a sporty profile and will be equipped with a comprehensive range of advanced features
Even though Mahindra has several bestselling SUVs, there’s no dedicated offering in the compact SUV space. This gap will be filled soon with the upcoming BE.05 electric SUV. Test mules have been spotted frequently, revealing many details about the SUV.
    Mahindra BE.05 glassroof spied
Snapped from a height, the spy shot reveals the sleek, modern design of BE.05. Aerodynamic properties are clearly evident, all across the curvy bonnet, heavily raked windshield and a coupe-like sloping roofline. Spy shots are credited to automotive enthusiast Viraj. The glass roof is huge and covers almost the entire length and width of the roof. It will probably be the largest in the segment at launch.
    Mahindra BE.05 Electric SUV
In the compact SUV segment, Tata Curvv EV and Citroen Basalt are the only two SUVs with a coupe profile. However, Basalt does not get any sunroof options. Considering that most people prefer sunroofs, the sub-segment of coupe-styled compact SUVs will witness a fight between BE.05 and Tata Curvv EV. Other rivals for BE.05 include MG ZS EV and upcoming Maruti eVX and Hyundai Creta EV.
    Flamboyant exterior profile
Most of the features seen with the BE.05 Concept have been carried forward in the production model. Mahindra BE.05 has sharp panelling all across and the eye-catching lighting setup seems like a premium aftermarket upgrade. The striking C-shaped LED DRLs are exactly the same as seen with the concept. The C-shaped lighting, with slight variations, will be seen with other INGLO based SUVs as well. It’s a signature feature present both at the front and rear as well.
    Mahindra BE.05 Electric SUV
Side profile exudes sophistication and refinement, with features such as large aero wheels, low profile tyres and flush door handles. Other highlights include C-pillar mounted rear door handles and all-four-disc brakes. The charging socket is located on the rear left quarter panel. BE.05 has a sporty rear, featuring a prominent tail gate and race-styled twin spoiler. All these features ensure a dominating road presence for BE.05.
    Mahindra BE.05 Electric SUV
    Fully loaded
Mahindra BE.05 will have premium interiors and all the features that one would expect from a compact SUV. Test mules have revealed a hexagonal steering wheel with illuminated BE logo on the centre. The focus seems to be exclusively on the BE brand instead of the twin peaks logo seen with other Mahindra cars. BE.05 will be getting dual screens for the infotainment and instrument cluster. In comparison, the upcoming XUV.e8 (electric version of XUV700) will be getting three screens. The third screen will be for the front passenger.
    Mahindra BE.05 Top Model Spied
Talking about BE.05, another key highlight is the clear separation between driver and passenger compartments. This enhances the overall cockpit experience, especially for the driver. BE.05 will have a long list of comfort and convenience features. Safety kit will include ADAS. In terms of performance, both single motor and dual motor configurations are likely. BE.05 is expected to have a 60-kWh battery pack and offer a range of around 500 km. More
