Royal Enfield Electric Motorcycle – What To Expect?

Royal Enfield Electric MotorcycleThe leaked patent design of Royal Enfield electric motorcycle reveal a few crucial details and sheds light on what to expect
One of the world’s most popular motorcycle manufacturer, Royal Enfield, has been expanding its portfolio rapidly. The company has multiple new vehicles planned based on their 350cc, 450cc and 650cc platforms. Now, the horizon is being widened further as the company just teased their upcoming EV.
This is the first time Royal Enfield is foraying into electric realm. Despite being uncharted waters, Royal Enfield seem like they’re confident to offer the combination of nostalgic design and peppy performance with their electric portfolio. Here’s everything you need to know about Royal Enfield’s upcoming electric motorcycles.
    Royal Enfield Electric Motorcycle Teaser
    Royal Enfield Electric Motorcycle
The first image of an electric prototype from Royal Enfield surfaced at the fag end of 2022. Called Electrik 01, this concept has been making quite a buzz over the years. Fast forwarding to today, Royal Enfield has officially teased their upcoming electric motorcycle and is set to “land” or debut on 4th November, 2024.
But what exactly is Royal Enfield debuting on 4th November? Will it be a production-ready motorcycle? Or will it be a more evolved version of original concept? We would lean on the latter as Royal Enfield’s electric motorcycle has not been spied testing on public roads.
    Royal Enfield Electric Motorcycle
The image of Royal Enfield Electrik 01 Concept seems to be leaked from an internal presentation. It shows Girder forks at the front along with skinny wheels and tyres. Overall design was still in Royal Enfield’s taste with an edge to being retro and classic. Even the colour combinations used, Green and Rose Gold, looks retro.
    Close-to-production design patent
While the first concept image of Royal Enfield Electrik 01 was seen a couple of years ago, The company has patented the bike’s design in India a couple of months ago. This design patent gave us a closer glimpse at Royal Enfield’s design approach and this patented version is what Royal Enfield is likely to debut on November 4th.
As seen from the design patent, it looks closer to production, when compared to what leaked images of Electrik 01 showed in 2022. To keep its appearance retro, Royal Enfield has used a unique frame design that engulfs the battery area, while still retaining a fuel-tank-like element. Front steering system doesn’t have conventional triple tree, as girder forks steal the show here.
Royal Enfield Electric Bike Design Patent Leaked
Wheels and tyres are skinny, probably to increase range on a single charge. Other notable elements include fancy swingarm, single-seat setup, small circular headlight and what looks like a mono-shock setup. While battery and motor details are not divulged yet, performance is likely to be similar to their 350cc motorcycles. More details will be divulged on 4th November. More

Hyundai Inster Cross Electric SUVAs compared to the regular Inster Electric SUV, the adventure focused Inster Cross e-SUV gets larger bumpers, added underbody protection, 17 inch wheels and a roof rack
It may be remembered that Hyundai had introduced the Inster electric SUV at the Busan International Mobility Show earlier this year. Now the company has come out with an adventure-focused variant called the ‘Inster Cross’. It will sport many off-road features and revised interiors though it will see no mechanical updates over its Inster counterpart.
    Hyundai Inster Cross e-SUV
New Inster Cross e-SUV is set to enter production later in 2025 while it will be built at Hyundai’s manufacturing facility in Korea. Drawing the attention of a more adventure oriented set of buyers, Hyundai Inster Cross, though built on the same platform as Inster, will display a tougher stance over the latter. It will gain many off-road-focused design elements though it will see no mechanical changes. It gets front-wheel drive configuration.
    Hyundai Inster Cross Electric SUV
This adventure focused electric SUV will sport the same colour options as seen on the Inster. These include Atlas White, Unbleached Ivory, Aero Silver Matte, Abyss Black Pearl and Tomboy Khaki while it will be marked by an exclusive Amazonas Green Matte colour option. Some of these exterior colour choices will also be offered in a two-tone scheme with a contrasting black roof.
Hyundai Inster Cross will also sport a revised body kit with 17 inch alloy wheels, blackened cladding, revised front and rear bumpers along with side skirt and roof rack. Measuring 3,825mm in length, 1,610 mm in width and 1,575mm in height, the Inster Cross, besides its diminutive stance, will bear a more rugged and adventure oriented look as compared to the standard model.

It sports a pair of 10.25 inch screens for infotainment and drive display along with a multifunction steering wheel. The seats in front are of bench type while second row seats can either be folded flat or are in a 50:50 split with recline function. For better accessibility, the seats can also be slid forward and backward individually. The boot will be of 280 to 351 liter (9.9 to 12.4 cubic feet) capacity depending on configuration.
Hyundai Inster Cross e-SUV will also be fitted with several driver assistance features like its standard counterpart. In terms of safety, it will include an ADAS package with Highway Driving Assist 1.5, Smart Cruise Control, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 1, Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Centering with Navigation Data along with an Autonomous Emergency Braking System.
Standard and Long Range Electric Powertrains

The motor will offer 95 hp power or 113 hp power with battery capacity of 42 kWh or 49 kWh. The higher powered battery will be capable of an all-electric range (AER) of 359 kms (223 miles) WLTP range and support 120 kWh charging. Fast charging will be possible from 10%-80% in 30 minutes and supports 120 kWh DC charging.
With production set to commence from later this year, prices will be revealed closer to official launch. Inster Cross will make its way to markets across Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific region. For Indian markets, apart from an Inster-based EV, Hyundai also plans an onslaught into the electric SUV segment with the Creta EV along with electric versions of the Venue and Grand i10. More

Mahindra XUV Coupe Spied Up Close – White Interiors, 19 Inch Wheels

Mahindra XUV Coupe SpiedMahindra’s upcoming born-electric SUVs could provide a significant boost to the EV segment, which is currently progressing at a relatively slow pace
Since the concepts were unveiled, enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting the launch of Mahindra’s all-new BE and XUV.e electric SUV range. The wait will soon be over, as evident with the intensified road tests and recent TVC shoots.
    XUV.e9 Coupe spied in detail
While the BE.05 and XUV.e8 have also been spotted frequently on road tests, the latest spy shots are of XUV.e9 Coupe. Latest spy shots are credited to automotive enthusiast Vaisakh Shaji.
    Mahindra XUV Coupe Spied
A full 360° view of the test vehicle reveals that the production model is quite the same as the concept version. XUV.e9 is the coupe version of XUV.e8, which in turn is the electric version of XUV700. While the sloping coupe roofline is a major attraction, the SUV’s huge size ensures a powerful road presence.
In its concept form, the XUV.e9 Coupe was 4,790 mm long, 1,905 mm wide, 1,690 mm tall and had a wheelbase of 2,775 mm. Spy shots reveal that there are unlikely to be any major differences in the dimensions of production-spec XUV.e9. Talking about exterior features, one can see a new triangular headlamp cluster design. This is the same as seen with the XUV.e8. Inside the headlamp housing, there are cube-shaped lighting elements and copper-coloured highlighters.
    Mahindra XUV Coupe Spied
XUV.e9 Coupe has a multi-layered bonnet, with a tapering front section. This is aesthetically pleasing and can also improve the driver’s road view. Mahindra’s new infinity logo is mounted on the bonnet. The massive closed-off grille enhances the SUV’s powerful presence, whereas the bumper trim in copper finish highlights its electric underpinnings.
    Mahindra XUV Coupe Spied
    Mahindra XUV Coupe R19 wheels
Mahindra XUV.e9 can be seen with 19-inch wheels wrapped in 245/55 tyres. The low-drag, aerodynamic design appears to be the same as seen with the concept. Other highlights of the side profile include pop-out flush door handles at the front and C-pillar mounted rear door handles. The window line will be getting a copper garnish, contrasting the blacked-out pillars, fenders, thick body cladding and door side moulding.
Mahindra XUV Coupe Spied – White Seats
At the rear, XUV.e9 has connected LED tail lights. The test vehicle can be seen with the charging port installed at the rear, just next to the left tail lamp. A battery level indicator can also be seen above the charging port. A chunky tailgate complements the SUV’s powerful road presence.
Mahindra XUV Coupe Spied – Steering Wheel
    Mahindra XUV.e9 interiors
One of the key features of XUV.e9 is its triple-screen layout. Covering almost the entire width of the dashboard, the triple-screen layout ensures a futuristic and immersive display experience. With consumer preferences hugely in favour of hi-tech gadgetry, the 3-screen layout could become more common in the coming years.
Mahindra XUV Coupe Spied – Digital display
XUV.e9 Coupe is seen with white interiors. The seats, door panels, pillars, roof are all in white. The cabin will be equipped with a comprehensive range of premium and advanced tech features. Safety will be enhanced with a wide-ranging ADAS suite in addition to multiple airbags, ABS, etc.
Mahindra XUV Coupe Spied – White Seats
In terms of performance, XUV.e9 variants can get battery packs in the range of 60 kWh to 80 kWh. Both RWD and AWD options could be available. Range is expected to be around 500 km. XUV.e9 will support 175kW DC fast charging, allowing battery level to reach up to 80% in around 30 minutes. More

Royal Enfield Electric Motorcycle Debuts 4th Nov 2024 – First Teaser, Website Launched

Royal Enfield Electric Motorcycle TeaserFor every ICE champion such as Royal Enfield, the EV segment throws up entirely new possibilities and challenges
Even as it dominates the middleweight segment, Royal Enfield is actively focused on developing its new range of electric motorcycles. The first of which will make its global debut at the EICMA 2024.
Royal Enfield Electric Website Launched – New Teasers
Royal Enfield has shared the first official teaser of their upcoming electric motorcycle with the caption – Save the Date (4th Nov, 2024). They have also launched a new instagram handle (@royalenfieldev) along with a new website section dedicated to their upcoming electric motorcycles (https://www.royalenfield.com/in/en/electric-vehicles/).
Royal Enfield Electric Bike Design Patent
The electric motorcycle from Royal Enfield is set to redefine urban commuting, combining the brand’s storied heritage with modern-day technology. As seen in the teaser, this new category of electric two-wheelers is designed to meet the demands of urban mobility, offering a seamless, connected, and agile riding experience. The debut marks Royal Enfield’s strategic move to embrace the future of electric mobility, all while preserving the brand’s essence that has captivated riders for over a century.
The company is not in a rush to launch its electric motorcycles. They are looking to develop truly unique products that can generate the desired interest among enthusiasts. One can expect launch in 2025. Just like the existing ICE range, there will be a multitude of Royal Enfield electric bikes to choose from in the future.
    Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric Testbed
Royal Enfield developing two new EV architectures
To ensure better outcomes, Royal Enfield is working on two distinct EV architectures. One of these platforms is being developed entirely in-house. The second platform is being developed in collaboration with a European startup named Stark Future.
As may be recalled, Royal Enfield had made a strategic investment in Stark Future in 2022. RE had purchased a 10.35% equity stake in the company, with the deal valued at €50 million (Rs 439 crore). The partnership covers collaborations in R&D, technical licensing, technology sharing and manufacturing.
Across both EV architectures, multiple new products are currently under development. One of these has already gone beyond the prototype stage. To manage costs and supply chain constraints, Royal Enfield will be sourcing components locally as far as possible. The company has already inked supply deals with 11-12 key EV vendors.
These partnerships go beyond the battery packs. Imports will be an option only where such parts may not be available locally. On the distribution front, Royal Enfield is thinking about various options. It is possible that the company may launch entirely new outlets for its EVs. Royal Enfield is also building a strong team to power its EV business. Recent hires include former Ducati veteran Mario Alvisi and ex-Ola Electric official Umesh Krishnappa.
Royal Enfield EVs won’t get the thump
While it is difficult to imagine Royal Enfield bikes without the signature thumping exhaust note, the EVs will be completely silent. RE is not even planning to use speakers, as it will feel like a fake experience. The thump with Royal Enfield ICE motorcycles is natural, linked to the bike’s rhythm. It is part of the bike’s haptic response system. Doing the same with an EV using a speaker will feel quite unreal. Even though Royal Enfield is working on its electric range, their ICE engines will continue for several decades. Petrol bikes are everyone’s favourite, and they will be in production as long as regulations allow. More

Ola Electric Shares Clarification With The BSE Regarding BOSS Sale Discounts

Ola Electric Scooter outside a service outletOla Electric, facing increased regulatory scrutiny over its recent BOSS sale discounts, has clarified its position in a formal response to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)
Ola Electric share price has seen a massive drop recently, raising concerns regarding its pricing strategy, particularly for the S1 X 2kWh model. From a peak of Rs 157 in August, Ola Electric share price was at Rs 87.46 at the end of trading day on 14th October.
    Ola Electric ‘BOSS’ Discounts
Following reduced sales and complaints of flawed after sales service, Ola Electric is now resorting to the ‘BOSS’ offer to cash in on festive buying. The S1 X 2kWh model is being presented at Rs 49,999 which is lower than the ex-factory price. This according to ARAI was done without them being informed in advance.
Ola Electric Scooter At Rs 50k
ARAI has hence asked Ola Electric to offer more clarity on this significantly reduced pricing. Failure to give any satisfactory reasons, the company could lose the subsidies which are being offered under PM Electric DRIVE Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) scheme, which recently replaced FAME-II. The company also faces strong action in terms of widespread consumer complaints, compounding this issue even further.
Called BOSS (Biggest Ola Season Sale), the Ola Electric S1 X 2kWh model is being offered at Rs 49,999. This is a Rs 25,000 discount on actual pricing of Rs 75,001. Failure to inform ARAI about this new pricing policy prior to announcing the ‘BOSS’ promotional scheme is what has resulted in this questioning.
ARAI now seeks clarity on this new price reduction and Ola Electric could face lawsuits if found guilty of violating regulatory guidelines. Ola Electric could also face the risk of losing financial benefits under the new subsidy scheme while Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has also asked ARAI to confirm if Ola Electric is conforming to warranty terms and conditions and maintenance of service centers.
    Ola Electric’s Clarification
Ola Electric has now provided clarification on the issue following inquiries from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). Ola Electric received an email from ARAI on October 8, 2024, seeking confirmation about whether the S1 X 2kWh was being sold at the discounted price of Rs 49,999. In response, Ola Electric clarified that:
The company has not permanently changed the price of the S1 X 2kWh model. The reduced price is part of a limited-time festive campaign, offering a general discount of Rs 5,000 to all customers, while a Rs 25,000 discount was applied only to select customers with limited inventory available.
Supporting documents, including an invoice dated October 6, 2024, and a screenshot from their app, were provided to ARAI as evidence of this selective pricing. Additionally, Ola Electric noted that they had promptly supplied further documentation upon request from ARAI on October 9, 2024. To date, they have not received any further communication from the regulatory body.
    Addressing Stock Price Volatility
Ola Electric also addressed the recent movement in its share price, clarifying that they are not aware of any undisclosed information that could explain the fluctuation. The company assured that all material events and information required under SEBI’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements have been duly disclosed to the relevant stock exchanges. Ola emphasized that the media report on the regulatory scrutiny has had no material impact on the company’s overall operations or financial health.
Ola Electric Fall from Glory – Piling Complaints, Lawsuits, Falling Share Price
Ola Electric, even as it is currently the top selling electric 2W maker in India, with a 27% market share as of September 2024 ended the month in the red. The company reported a 10.31% MoM de-growth. Sales fell to 24,679 units in the past month with competitors Bajaj, TVS and Ather all witnessing increased demand.
Sales of Ola Electric have been fast dwindling as consumer issues mount. A series of complaints pour in with regard to deliveries substandard performance, service delays, documentation and mileage issues etc., with the National Consumer Helpline portal receiving nearly 10,000+ complaints to date. The complaints which pile in have even termed Ola service centers as ‘graveyards of electric scooters’ on social media. CCPA has also sought a response from Ola Electric within 15 days.
Following these concerns and falling of share price to Rs 87.34, down 44.48% from a record high of Rs 157.53, on August 20, 2024, Ola Electric has promised stringent measures. Among these remedial measures are expansion of service networks by the end of this calendar year. AI relation maintenance program with Move OS 5 and augmented training to service personnel along with Hyper Service facilities and 1 day fix are also some of these measures being adopted. More

Royal Enfield Bear 650 Scrambler Spied – Yellow and White Dual Tone Colour

Royal Enfield Bear 650 ScramblerUpcoming Royal Enfield Interceptor Bear 650 Scram will have multiple distinctive features in comparison to RE’s existing 650cc bikes
Royal Enfield is working on several new bikes across the 350cc, 450cc and 650cc segments. In the 650cc space, one of the most anticipated motorcycle launches is a new scrambler model. It will go on sale as the Interceptor Bear 650. The name was registered last year in 2023.
Royal Enfield Interceptor Bear 650 Scram – Styling and features
Test mules have been spotted frequently in recent months, indicating that the bike will be launched soon. Now, a fully undisguised, production-ready version has leaked online – donning dual tone paint scheme of yellow and white with black stripes on the fuel tank and blue coloured seat.
    Royal Enfield Bear 650 Scrambler
A quick glance reveals that the new scrambler bike has the DNA of Interceptor 650. Some of the borrowed equipment includes the fuel tank and the tubular steel chassis. However, as the Interceptor Bear 650 will have relatively better off-roading capabilities, it gets a more robust suspension setup.
One of the key differences is longer suspension travel, as compared to other 650cc bikes from Royal Enfield. Interceptor Bear 650 gets USD forks at front and dual rear shock absorbers. In comparison, the existing Interceptor 650 has telescopic front forks. The dual rear shock absorbers seem common, but the Bear 650 has a new spring/damper unit. It does not get the gas reservoirs in use with existing Interceptor 650.
Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 Interceptor Bear Spied
Interceptor Bear 650 is likely to be offered with 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels. These are shod with knobby profiled dual-purpose tubeless tyres. With a new suspension setup and tyres, it appears that Interceptor Bear 650 will have better off-roading capabilities. It should be able to handle mild off-road tracks with ease.
    New equipment
Talking about some of the unique aspects of Interceptor Bear 650, the bike has a two-into-one exhaust setup. The perforated heat shield is functionally relevant and also enhances the bike’s rugged character. The merged exhaust setup is a first for a Royal Enfield bike. It will ensure an agile performance across both urban roads and off-road tracks. With the new exhaust, the bike will be lighter, which in turn will increase its power to weight ratio.
Another feature that adds more dynamism is the oval, race-style number boards. Other key highlights of Interceptor Bear 650 include circular headlamp, all-LED lighting, circular rear-view mirrors, braced handlebar, tear-drop shaped fuel tank, new mudguards and an upswept exhaust. Overall, Royal Enfield Interceptor Bear 650 looks attractive with its minimalistic, neo-retro aesthetics. Tech kit will include a circular TFT instrument screen. Something similar to that of Himalayan 450 and Guerrilla 450. With the Royal Enfield app, users will be able to access various connected features including full map navigation.
Royal Enfield Interceptor Bear 650 – Performance
Engine will be the same as other 650cc Royal Enfield bikes. The 648cc, inline twin cylinder, 4-stroke, SOHC unit churns out 47 PS and 52.3 Nm. It is offered with a 6-speed gearbox. Overall ride dynamics could be relatively better, owing to the bike’s lightweight profile and distinct ergonomics. Debut is likely to take place at the EICMA 2024 next month.
