(IYM), a leading two wheeler manufacturer that produces 125cc and 155cc scooters – Fascino, Ray and Aerox and premium motorbikes in the 155cc and 300cc range, has seen sales decline in India in June 2024.A total of 58,471 units of Yamaha scooters and motorcycles were sold in June 2024, marking a 0.16% YoY decline in sales over 58,567 units sold in June 2023. MoM sales saw an even higher percentage decline by 8.95% when compared to 64,222 units sold in May 2024.Yamaha Domestic Sales June 2024 – YoY DeclineFirst on the domestic sales list was the Yamaha RayZR with 15,184 units sold last month. This was a 12.97% YoY growth when compared to 13,441 units sold in June 2023 with the RayZR commanding a 25.97% share in the company portfolio. In April 2024, the company revamped three of its models RayZR, MT15 and Fascino with new colour options and body graphics as a part of the ‘Call of the Blue’ campaign.Yamaha FZ sales declined by 26.20% YoY to 12,041 units in June 2024, down from 16,312 units sold in June 2023 relating to a 4,275 unit volume decline. Despite this, it still maintained a significant 20.59% share of total sales.Yamaha Sales Breakup June 2024 – YoYSales grew by a modest 27.28% where the Yamaha MT-15 is concerned, to 11,617 units last month, up by 2,490 units over 9,127 units sold in June 2023. The model now commands a 19.87% share in the company portfolio.Yamaha witnessed a decline in sales for the Fascino (9,254 units) and R15 (8,776 units), a YoY de-growth of 3.32% and 13.20% respectively. There was also the relatively new Aerox on this list with 1,593 unit sales last month while sales of the R3/MT03, launched in December 2023, stood at 6 units.Yamaha Domestic Sales Down 8.95% MoM in June 2024Yamaha has also posted an 8.95% MoM decline in domestic sales in June 2024. All of the company models except for the RayZR have seen lower month-on-month demand in domestic markets. Yamaha RayZR sales surged 10.08% to 15,184 units, up from 13,794 units sold in May 2024.Yamaha Sales Breakup June 2024 – MoMThereafter, all models have seen lower sales. FZ sales dipped 16.14% MoM from 14,359 units while MT-15 sales were down 20.50% over 14,612 units sold in May 2024. Does it have raw performance like KTM 390 Duke? We don’t know yet. So, is it a jack of all trades? If you ask me, I would rate Honda CB300R the highest among these contenders followed by Triumph Speed 400. Many motorcycling enthusiasts will find that Guerrilla doesn’t have that quintessential Royal Enfield DNA lurking all around vehicles like Classic 350, Bullet 350, Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. However, Guerrilla is a far more pretty motorcycle if we compare it to its platform sibling, Himalayan 450.Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 Vs RivalsPerformance-wise, Guerrilla 450 has the largest engine displacement at 452cc and packs the highest torque at 40 Nm. Not just that, peak torque is generated at a relatively low 5,500 RPM, while Harley-Davidson X440’s 38 Nm peak torque comes up at an even lower 4,000 RPM. Speed 400 and Guerrilla 450 offer comparable power figures. CB300R has the least power in this comparo, but it only weighs 146 kg.Except for X440 and its re-branded cousin Hero Mavrick 440 gets oil cooling and a 2V head with SOHC setup. Every single one of these contenders packs a DOHC 4V head with liquid cooling. Guerrilla 450 is the only one with ride modes, while others offer ride-by-wire, slipper clutch and other attributes.     Ather 450XElectric 2W sales June 2024 list was topped by Ola Electric with a 46% share of total retail salesElectric 2W sales were in high demand in June 2024 with 79,530 units sold, a 72.48% YoY growth from 46,108 units sold in June 2023. It was also a 3.41% growth on a MoM basis when compared to 76,907 units sold in May 2024. Every 2W OEM on this list has shown off outstanding sales performance on a YoY basis, though retail sales comparison on a MoM basis were somewhat subdued.Electric 2W Retail June 2024 YoY Vs MoMElectric 2W sales in India are increasing by leaps and bounds. Government of India subsidies, tax incentives and other benefits to promote adoption of electric vehicles have stood it in good stead.Sales of electric two wheelers in June 2024 that experienced significant YoY and MoM growth had Ola Electric at No. 1 with a lion’s share in total sales. Ola retail sales stood at 36,723 units in the past month, a 107.57% YoY growth from 17,692 units sold in June 2023. The company retail sales however fell on a MoM basis by 1.35% when compared to 37,225 units sold in May 2024.TVS Motor, with a single electric 2W model iQube has contributed 13,904 units to total 2W retail sales in June 2024. This was a 76.74% YoY and 17.95% MoM improvement over 7,867 units and 11,788 units sold in June 2023 and May 2024 respectively.Electric 2W Sales June 2024At No. 3 was Bajaj Auto with Chetak electric scooter sales at 8,990 units last month. The company reported an astronomical 198.57% YoY growth over 3,011 units sold in June 2023 while MoM sales performance dipped by 2.43% from 9,214 units sold in May 2024. Chetak 2901, the newest offering is priced at Rs 95,998, ex-showroom – Bangalore. It promises an ARAI-certified range of 123 km.Ola Holds Top SpotAther sales also improved significantly by 32.61% YoY to 6,104 units in June 2024 from 4,603 units sold in June 2023. MoM saw a very marginal improvement by 0.98% from 6,045 units sold in May 2024. The Ather Rizta electric scooter marked its entry into the segment. It is presented in two variants of Rizta S and Rizta Z and priced from Rs 1,09,999 to Rs 1,44,999 (Ex-showroom Bengaluru).A massive YoY growth was reported by Hero MotoCorp with a 560% YoY hike in retail sales to 3,069 units in June 2024. This was up from a meagre 465 units sold in June 2023. MoM sales also showed off promise with a 24.96% growth from 2,456 units sold in May 2024.Greaves Electric two wheeler retail sales also improved YoY and MoM by 88.40% and 38.70% respectively to 2,713 units. Bgauss sales also scaled new heights with a 456.02% YoY improvement to 1,062 units last month from 191 units sold in June 2023 while there had been 1,158 units sold in May 2024 relating to an 8.29% MoM decline.Electric 2W Retail June 2024 – Sub-1,000 UnitUnable to cross sales above the 1,000 unit mark was Wardwizard with 896 unit sales in June 2024. This was a 103.64% YoY but a 28.95% MoM decline. Quantum Energy showed off the highest YoY growth with a 754.43% improvement to 675 units from 79 units sold in June 2023 while MoM sales grew by 29.06% over 523 units sold in May 2024.Lower down the sales list was Revolt (660 units) reporting a YoY and MoM decline in sales while sales of Okaya (517 units) and Kinetic Green (457 units) projected outstanding YoY improvement in sales.
