While Bajaj has made significant strides in CNG tech on 2W with Freedom 125, TVS is also jumping on the bandwagon, but with a scooter. Yes! TVS has just debuted a CNG scooter based on Jupiter 125 with a small CNG tank placed under the seat. This has eaten into Jupiter’s boot space, but this is only a tech demonstration and is not final production form.
TVS Jupiter CNG Showcased
At the outgoing 2025 Auto Expo, TVS Jupiter CNG grabbed a lot of eyeballs. On the outside, there is not a single cue to show this is a CNG vehicle. Only once you lift the seat, one can see a plastic cover that is placed on top of a CNG tank. This is where ICE Jupiter 125’s underseat storage used to be.
TVS Jupiter CNG is still in concept phase and feels rough around the edges. However, it is a demonstration of possibilities and final production version will feel much more refined in terms of packaging. Bajaj Freedom 125 had a switch to change fuels, from CNG to Petrol and vice-versa. Which might be present in production-spec TVS Jupiter CNG.
When the seat is up, we can see a pressure gauge beside the hump and this is where CNG pressure is indicated. Right beside it, we can see a filler nozzle too. We hope the production model gets an external filler nozzle. Launch timeline is not revealed yet.
Specs and Range
Speaking about specs and numbers, TVS Jupiter CNG packs a circular tank with 1.4 kg CNG capacity. Because the CNG tank, petrol tank has been reduced to just 2 litres in capacity. Jupiter 125’s engine is modified to run on both Petrol and CNG. When run on CNG, TVS claims a fuel efficiency figure of 84 km/kg.
Combined with the 2 litre petrol, TVS promises around 226 km range on one filling (1.4 kg CNG + 2 litre Petrol). Production-spec TVS Jupiter CNG might feature more refinements to this system and there might be an increase to total range. The same 124.8cc engine does duty on Jupiter CNG with 7.1 bhp and 9.4 Nm, when run on CNG. Top speed is 80 km/h.
