550-HP Lexus J201 Concept Is an LX570 Reimagined for Adventure

  • The Lexus J201 concept is a LX570 recrafted in the style of a go-anywhere, d0-anything adventure rig.
  • The J201’s supercharged engine is tuned to boost output to 55o horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque.
  • The J201 will make its first appearance at the 10-day Rebelle Rally in the southwest U.S.

It’s no secret that the Lexus LX570 can be transformed into an overlander which can make all of your friends jealous—and it makes sense, since it’s based on the Toyota Land Cruiser. Now, Lexus has created its own version of the LX570 as the ultimate adventure vehicle with the J201 concept, which features enhancements from the powertrain to the roof.

If you’re building out your own LX—or any vehicle for that matter—using the J201 as a checklist for all the things you need wouldn’t be a bad way to start, although it would cost you a bit. Under the hood, this concept gains a Magnuson supercharger, giving the 5.7-liter V-8 engine a power boost from 383 to 550 horsepower, along with 550 lb-ft of torque. A snorkel feeds that beast when water covers the grille.

Power is routed through performance locking differentials down to 17-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in 33-inch General Grabber X3 Tires, which can be reinflated with the twin onboard air compressor. Rock sliders down the sides of the truck, and skid plates covering the front underbody, as well as the transfer case and fuel tank adorn the underside of the J201.

The J201 gets an upgraded suspension with custom Lexus upper control arms and front and rear spacers. The roof sports a roof rack with a storage case for Maxtrax recovery boards. The front and rear bumpers also have their own upgrades, including a winch, recovery hooks, and a light bar on the front bumper, plus a spare tire, five-gallon water cans, and a ladder coming off the rear bumper.

The naming for the J201, Lexus said, comes from the automaker’s internal chassis and platform code for the LX570: URJ201. The J201 concept will make its public appearance at the 10-day Rebelle Rally in the southwest United States, which starts on October 8.
