Subaru is rolling out the 2021 Legacy sedan and Outback station wagon, and they add a few standard safety features such as steering-responsive LED headlights. The Legacy starts at $23,820 with the Outback starting at $27,845, prices that are up $175 and $190 over the 2020 models, and they’ll arrive in dealers in October.
The 2021 Legacy’s $23,820 starting price is for the base model, which is powered by a 182-hp 2.4-liter boxer-four paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive. All Legacy models, which also include the Premium ($26,070), Sport ($28,020), Limited ($30,820), Limited XT ($35,370), and Touring XT ($37,070), have Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist technology as standard, which includes adaptive cruise control and lane centering, and the Limited XT and Touring XT models come equipped with a 260-hp turbocharged 2.4-liter engine.
Among additional standard features on the 2021 Legacy sedan are keyless entry, a dual 7.0-inch touchscreen on the base model, an 11.6-inch screen on the Premium model and up, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. Two option packages are available for the Premium model: one, which costs $1000, adds blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, push-button start, and LED fog lights. The other, which costs $2595, adds a moonroof and TomTom navigation to the first package’s list of features.
The Legacy Sport and Limited also get two similar option packages. The Sport offers a $2245 package that adds reverse automated emergency braking on top of the Premium model’s options. The Limited adds a heated steering wheel and a driver distraction mitigation system for a total of $2045. The Limited XT gets a Harman/Kardon sound system, and the Touring XT gets a Sierra Tan nappa leather interior.
The 2021 Outback’s $27,845 starting price is for the base model, which is also powered by the 2.4-liter engine, although the more powerful turbocharged engine is equipped on the Onyx Edition XT and above. The Outback is available in six different trim levels above the base model: Premium ($30,095), Limited ($34,645), Touring ($38,545), Onyx Edition XT ($36,195), Limited XT ($39,045), and Touring XT ($40,995).
Like the Legacy, the Outback comes standard with the dual 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. The 11.6-inch screen is standard on the Premium model and up. The Premium also gets two option packages. The first costs $1400 and adds a hands-free power trunk, push-button start, and blind-spot detection with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. The other package, which costs $2995, adds a moonroof and TomTom navigation.
And, also like the Legacy, the Outback Sport and Limited models get similar options packages to spruce them up a bit. The Sport’s adds reverse automated emergency braking to the existing list of options and costs $1845, while the Limited’s costs $2045 and adds the driver focus system.
The 2021 Subaru Legacy sedan and Outback station wagon will arrive in dealerships in October.
