Mazda is not being subtle about the prospect of the 2021 Mazda 3 hatchback getting a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine. The automaker replied to Car and Driver (and other automotive publications) with the statement “power comes to those who wait” via Twitter, adding a link to a video that plays the sound of what we anticipate is the new turbocharged version of the hot hatch.

The video announces that we should “prepare for launch” on July 8 while a motor is revved against a dynamic red background. We’ve reached out to Mazda for more details. But you should expect some type of virtual event during the second week of July.

We’re expecting the turbocharged power plant to have 250 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Sadly though, it’s likely that it’ll only be paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Still, as fans of the Mazda 3, we’re excited to see how this new turbo enhances its already fun driving experience.
