Suzuki Motorcycle India launched its BS6-compliant 2020MY Intruder 150 cruiser in March 2020 at a starting price of Rs 1.20 lakh ex-showroom. Compared to its BS4 counterpart, prices went up by around Rs 14,000. There are no notable differences between either model to justify such a substantial price hike, except for the addition of an FI system and an exhaust system rework to cut down emissions.
As a result, there has been a marginal drop in output. In its BS6 format, the 154.99cc air-cooled FI single-cylinder produces 13.4bhp @ 8,000rpm and 13.8Nm @ 6,000rpm. These are down by roughly 0.4bhp and 0.2Nm, respectively. The power plant employs the same 5-speed transmission. It continues to be a strong rival to Bajaj Auto’s Avenger series.
Back in February, the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer was expected to unveil a bigger Suzuki Intruder 250 model at Auto Expo 2020. The anticipation was immense since Suzuki Motorcycle India was one of the very few brands in the two-wheeler market that participated in the 15th biennial instalment of India’s biggest automotive show. Suzuki has not made any formal statements regarding a 250cc Intruder variant yet.
Suzuki Intruder 250’s revised exhaust system
Now, patent images of a new exhaust design installed on what seems to be the Suzuki Intruder 250 have leaked on the internet. Patent images generally involve extremely simple drawings of a product and for the same reason, it is difficult to point out the cosmetic differences between the ‘150’ and ‘250’ Intruder models. Its revamped dual-outlet muffler design is the only obvious change.
However, once the quarter-litre single-cylinder cruiser hits the Indian market, expect it to carry features such as a full-LED headlamp, digital instrument console and dual-channel ABS. New colour choices could also be part of the package. The 2020MY Suzuki Intruder 150 is available in three shades: Glass Sparkle Black + Metallic Matte Titanium Silver, Metallic Matte Black + Candy Sanoma Red and single-tone Metallic Matte Titanium Silver.
Suzuki Intruder 150 (for reference)
The India-spec Suzuki Intruder 250 will borrow its power plant from the current BS6 Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250. It was only recently that Suzuki Motorcycle India commenced its Japanese exports of the naked- and faired-sports singles. At a displacement of 249cc, the FI single-cylinder motor boasts of a unique oil-cooling technology dubbed SOCS (Suzuki Oil Cooling System). Output figures are rated at 26bhp @ 9,300rpm and 22.2Nm @ 7,300rpm while mated to a 6-speed transmission. Prices may be close to Rs 1.50 lakh ex-showroom.
