Pure EV’s ePluto 7G electric scooter has been launched at Rs 79,999 ex-showroom. It claims a top speed of 60km/h and a battery warranty of 40,000km.

Pure EV — a mobility start-up that was incubated at the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad — has launched its very first high-speed electric scooter, dubbed as the ePluto 7G. The launch event was held at the campus itself in the presence of Mr V K Saraswat, member of NITI Aayog, G Satheesh Reddy, Chairman of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Prof. B S Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad.

At the occasion, Mr Saraswat shared that e-mobility is an upcoming sector and also one of the most disruptive ones. The Indian market is not only considering the vehicular aspect of electric mobility, but also the supply chain involved at various stages of planning, purchase and production. He added that the value addition that has been done by Pure EV is very high and the team’s effort is commendable.

At an ex-showroom price of Rs 79,999, the Pure EV ePluto 7G is aimed to offer affordability, good range and an appreciable top speed of 60km/h (for an electric two-wheeler coming at this price point). The e-scooter from Pure EV also boasts of a 40,000km battery warranty.

The battery pack and the entire engineering that has gone into the vehicle’s functionality and practicality have been done keeping Indian terrain and weather conditions into consideration. For this, the ePluto 7G had to be tested in different environments from its very basic stages of production.

Pure EV currently has a manufacturing capacity of 2,000 units per month from its facility which shares its location with the IIT campus. This year, the mobility start-up aims to roll out more than 10,000 units of the ePluto 7G. The 40,000 sq. ft. production facility doubles up as a state-of-the-art Research and Development hub for large-scale production of electric vehicles and batteries, for Pure EV as well as other brands operating in the growing sphere of EVs in the country.

The electric vehicle segment in the Indian automotive market is still at an infant stage. The desirability factor of an EV may not be as much as an ICE counterpart coming in at the same price point. However, things are different in the case of scooters. Modern-day electric scooters are arguably much better than regular petrol CVT examples even though the initial investment required would be a bit on the higher side. The Pure EV ePluto 7G is quite competitively priced and could be a worthy alternative to a mainstream CVT scooter.
