The Husqvarna Vitpilen 250 made its India debut late last year along with the Svartpilen 250. Both motorcycles were launched in India in the last week of February. Produced at the Bajaj plant in Chakan near Pune, both motorcycles were priced at Rs 1.8 lakhs, ex-sh.
Unfortunately, a couple of days after the bikes started to arrive at newly formed KTM – Husqvarna dealerships, India announced a national lockdown to fight corona virus. This resulted in not many getting a change to review the first ever Husqvarna motorcycle in India. But a select few did get a chance to review, before the lockdown.
One of them is YouTube channel Fuel Injected. In the video, we can get a detailed look at the new BS6 Husqvarna Vitpilen 250, as well as first ride impressions.
Husqvarna Vitpilen 250 BS6 Review
The quarter liter, café racer styled Husqvarna Vitpilen 250 is positioned on a trellis frame. It sports a unique look which instantly draws attention. The frame is made from high strength chromium molybdenum steel with hydroformed tubes and robot welding. This gives the motorcycle a robust platform.
On board features include a powerful headlamp, striking indicators and a tail lamp which bears a sleek look. It gets a soft seat which is comfortable both for rider and pillion rider. As per the review, the stance is such that the rider is in a front lean position, allowing for better comfort and less strain on shoulders and back. It gets a uniquely shaped circular LCD digital instrument console, clip on handlebars and a 9.5 liter fuel tank which is in a single piece design. This angular fuel tank stretches under the seat and extends to a high set, tail section integrating to the LED tail lamp. A point of concern where the Vitpilen 250 is concerned is its lower ground clearance which could cause some constraint especially considering the Indian road conditions and higher speed breakers.
Engine specifications on the Vitpilen 250 includes a 248.8cc, single cylinder, liquid cooled, fuel injected, 4 stroke engine that makes 29.5bhp at 9,000rpm and 24Nm at 7,500rpm, mated to a six speed gearbox with slipper clutch. This is the same engine that also powers the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250.
Suspension is managed via upside down forks with 142mm travel in the front and monoshock at the rear with 150mm travel. Braking is via 320mm front disc and 230mm rear disk while the bike gets Bosch dual channel ABS as a standard feature. It sits on 17” cast aluminum wheels. In India, Husqvarna Vitpilen 250 competes against the KTM 250 Duke, besides the Suzuki Gixxer 250, Bajaj Dominar 250 and Yamaha FZ25.
