Hyundai has officially teased its upcoming Creta Electric, signaling the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the brand’s electric lineup. With the caption, “A bold new chapter in electric begins soon. Hyundai Creta Electric is set to change the way you drive, forever. The countdown to innovation has begun! Coming soon,” the teaser hints at Hyundai’s commitment to expanding its electric vehicle portfolio in India.

Design and Features

The Creta Electric is expected to retain the overall design and dimensions of the ICE version but with key differences that emphasize its electric nature. These include a closed-off front grille, front-mounted charging port, aerodynamic alloy wheels, and revised bumpers with connected LED tail lamps. The front lighting setup is likely to feature horizontally positioned LED lamps and integrated turn indicators.

Inside, the Creta EV will likely borrow several premium features from Hyundai’s flagship EV, the Ioniq 5. These include a 10.25-inch digital driver display, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a Bose sound system, and a voice-activated panoramic sunroof. Ventilated and powered front seats, dual-zone climate control, and Hyundai’s signature 4-dot steering wheel are also expected.

In terms of safety, the Creta EV will offer Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), as spy shots reveal a radar module on its bumper. Features like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and blind spot detection will add to its appeal. Additional safety features include six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and a powered tailgate.

Powertrain and Performance

The Creta EV is likely to feature a 45 kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor generating approximately 138 hp and 255 Nm torque. It is expected to deliver an impressive range of 450 km on a single charge. Hyundai will also equip the Creta EV with advanced regenerative braking for enhanced efficiency and extended range.

The Hyundai Creta Electric will compete in a growing segment of electric SUVs that includes the Tata Curvv.ev, MG Windsor, and MG ZS EV. It will also face future competition from the Mahindra BE.05 and Maruti eVX, among others. It will be manufactured at Hyundai’s Chennai plant on the same production line as the standard Creta, ensuring streamlined production. It is expected to be followed by the Hyundai Alcazar EV, slated for launch in late 2025.

The Hyundai Creta Electric, based on the company’s best-selling Creta SUV, will be launched on 17th Jan 2025, at the Bharat Expo in Delhi. With a projected price from Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom), the Creta EV will cater to a growing audience seeking premium yet practical electric SUVs.
