In February 2023, YoY growth was reported for bikes in the 200-500cc segment though MoM sales declined marginally
Following our earlier report on top 10 150cc to 200cc motorcycles sold in Feb 2023 which saw YoY growth of 20.03 percent, we now list out the bikes in the 200-500cc range and their performance in the past month. Motorcycle sales in the 200-500cc range stood at 76,449 units in Feb 2023. This was a 21.64 percent YoY growth over 62,847 units sold in Feb 2022. MoM sales however, dipped by 1 percent from 77,223 units sold in Jan 2023. It was however, significant growth over 65,652 units sold in December 2022.
200 cc to 500cc Motorcycles Sales Feb 2023 – Royal Enfield Motorcycles Dominate
Royal Enfield’s 350cc series bikes claimed top 5 positions on the list of best-selling motorcycles in the 200-500cc segment. Topping the list and that too by a significant margin was RE Classic 350. Sales stood at 27,461 units in Feb 2023, down 8.71 percent from 30,082 units sold in Feb 2022. It was however, a MoM growth of 5.08 percent over 26,134 units sold in Jan 2023. Market share improved from 33.84 percent to 35.92 percent MoM.
RE Hunter 350, a recent entrant to the company lineup commanded a No. 2 spot on this list. Sales stood at 12,925 units in the past month, a MoM de-growth of 22.02 percent from 16,574 units sold in Jan 2023. It was followed by the Bullet 350 with a YoY growth in sales to 8,232 units, up 27.99 percent from 6,432 units sold in Feb 2022. MoM sales dipped 15 percent from 9,685 units sold in Jan 2023. This took the share percentage down from 12.54 percent to 10.77 percent MoM.
No. 4 and 5 spots were also from the RE stables with the Meteor and Electra. Meteor 350cc sales dipped YoY and MoM to 6,698 units in Feb 2023 down 0.76 percent from 6,749 units sold in Feb 2022 and down 12.12 percent from 7,622 units sold in Jan 2023. Electra 350cc on the other hand posted both YoY and MoM growth to 5,109 units in Feb 2023. This was a 49.12 percent YoY and 21.41 percent MoM growth to command a 6.68 percent market share.
Bajaj Auto broke the RE stronghold with the Pulsar 220/250 which has seen a 95.52 percent YoY increase in sales. Sales which had stood at 2,475 units in Feb 2022 increased to 4,839 units in Feb 2023. MoM sales also saw a spurt of 987.42 percent from just 445 units sold in Jan 2023. Market share went up to 6.33 percent from 0.58 percent MoM. RE Himalayan sales dipped 4.57 percent YoY but increased 13.69 percent MoM to 2,841 units. It was followed by the KTM 250 that posted YoY and MoM growth in sales to 1,650 units while also seeing its market share improve to 2.16 percent from 1.52 percent MoM.
Dominar 400 also found increased demand in markets in the past month with sales at 701 units up 111.78 percent YoY from 331 units sold in Feb 2022. MoM sales improved by 19.62 percent from 586 units sold in Jan 2023. The list also included KTM 390 with 629 units sold last month, a 1555.26 percent YoY growth from just 38 units sold in Feb 2022. MoM sales however dipped 5.84 percent from 616 units sold in Jan 2023. Dominar 250 had 580 units sold last month.
Sales in sub-500 unit range Feb 2023 – 200cc to 500cc segment
The list also saw some motorcycles in the 200-500cc range that failed to cross sales above 500 units in Feb 2023. These included the Avenger 220 (377 units), Apache 310 (374 units), Hness CB350 (319 units) and Suzuki Gixxer 250 (228 units). Out of these, Avenger 220 was the only motorcycle to record a YoY and MoM increase in sales.
Lower down the order was also Ninja 300 with a 41.56 percent YoY decline in sales but 60.87 percent growth on a MoM basis to 148 units in Feb 2023. It was followed by the FZ25 with a 51.22 percent YoY decline in sales to 120 units from 246 units sold in Feb 2022 while MoM sales fell by 88.24 percent. At Nos. 19 and 20 were Husqvarna 250 (40 units) and Ninja (22 units). 0 unit sales were recorded for the V-Strom, CB399R and CB500 while Jawa/Yezdi (retails) stood at 3,156 units, down 8.15 percent YoY and 11.65 percent MoM from 3,436 units sold in Feb 2022 and 3,572 units sold in Jan 2023 respectively.
