Inspired by the glorious days of 1960s racing era, Vespa Racing Sixties has been launched in India
As may be recalled, the Racing Sixties edition was showcased at 2020 Auto Expo. Vespa had planned to launch it before the BS6 deadline of March 31, but things got delayed for several months due to Covid-19 lockdown.
Racing Sixties style updates
Based on Vespa SXL 125 and SXL 150, Racing Sixties will be a special edition scooter. It primarily features cosmetic enhancements, inspired by the classic design philosophy that was prevalent in the 1960s. The scooter features a dynamic mix of red, black and gold shades against a glossy white body colour.
The entire design theme is quite minimalistic, but the choice of colours and their style of application is what makes the Racing Sixties stand out. It was one of the most clicked scooters at Auto Expo and is likely to emerge as a head-turner on the streets.
Some of the key cosmetic enhancements on Racing Sixties include red and gold graphics at the front and sides, black seat with white piping, and gold-coloured wheels. A number of parts such as the headlight surround, front panel borders, rear-view mirrors, and exhaust shield are finished in matte black colour. This again works as an exciting contrast and complements the scooter’s retro design.
Racing Sixties engine
Powering Racing Sixties will be the same engine that is used on Vespa SXL SXL 125 and 150. There are no mechanical tweaks to enhance power or torque. The BS6 compliant 150 cc, single cylinder FI engine generates 10.4 hp of max power at 7,600 rpm and 10.6 Nm of max torque at 5,500 rpm. It is mated to an auto-expendable CVT gearbox.
Vespa engines are known for their peppy rides, so users can expect improved ride dynamics. Also, most scooters in India are either 110 cc or 125 cc, so 150 cc Vespa scooters such as Racing Sixties will naturally allow more thrilling rides.
Another great thing about Vespa Racing Sixties is its lithe body, which will allow it to easily handle city traffic conditions. The scooter measures 1770 mm in length, 690 mm in width, and has a wheelbase of 1290 mm. Seat height is 770 mm and fuel tank capacity is 7.4 litres.
Racing Sixties utilizes a Monocoque full steel body construction with single side arm front suspension and hydraulic rear shock absorber. Braking system comprises 200 mm disc at the front and 140 mm drum at the rear. The scooter also gets single channel ABS as standard.
Racing Sixties 125 cc is priced at Rs 1.2 lakhs and 150cc is priced at Rs 1.32 lakhs. All prices are ex-sh. Compared to the regular SXL125 and SXL 150, the Racing Sixties edition is about Rs 6k more expensive. Customers who want to experience the 1960s racing era can certainly go for this beauty.
