- We spied the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport testing on public roads, and the images are giving us an even closer look at the Escape-based off-roader.
- The standard engine in the Bronco Sport will be a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, and a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder will be optional.
- The Bronco Sport will arrive at dealers later this year with an expected starting price under $30,000.
Earlier this month, the smaller Ford Bronco, the Escape-based Bronco Sport, leaked on a Bronco Sport Forum, but we only got to see three angles of Ford’s upcoming off-road crossover. Now we can share an even closer look at the Bronco Sport because we spied it testing on public roads and have some more angles of it.
Here, we’re getting a better idea of what the Bronco Sport’s boxy exterior profile will look like, as well as a look at its awesome roof rails. The Bronco Sport, also known as the “baby Bronco,” will have bold “Bronco” script across the grille and will feature round headlights, dark lower-body cladding, and a little more ground clearance than the Escape on which it’s based.
It’s going to be powered by a standard turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, and there will be an optional turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The Bronco Sport will also have an available hybrid powertrain, Ford says, which we expect to be the same as the Escape hybrid’s naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four and electric motor. Additionally, to support its commanding off-road appearance compared with the Escape, it will offer an optional all-wheel-drive system, which could include a differential lock and/or a low range.
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport will arrive before its larger sibling. Ford reportedly told dealers the Bronco Sport will arrive at dealers later this year, while the Bronco won’t go on sale until early 2021. Expect to see a starting price under $30,000 for the Bronco Sport.
