Pininfarina's Battista EV Hypercar Adds Ultra-Rare Anniversario Model

  • The Anniversario is a limited edition of Pininfarina’s forthcoming Battista EV hypercar.
  • It’s built to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Pininfarina’s founding.
  • The Anniversario has the same mechanical package as regular car, but with upgraded aerodynamic elements.

Pretty much anything sounds better in Italian. In English the word “Anniversary” applied to a car would make it sound like the sort of special edition that local dealerships used to try and create with extensive use of stripes and decals. But Anniversario sounds suitably grander, as it should when attached to a $2.6 million electric hypercar.

The Pininfarina Battista Anniversario is a special edition that was meant to be unveiled at the cancelled Geneva Auto Show, but which you can see here in the officially released images. Only five units will be produced. Based on the Pininfarina Battista that was first shown last year, the Anniversario is intended to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Battista Farina’s foundation of his famous coachbuilding company (carrozzeria).

Despite that connection, and the name it shares with the company’s founder, the Battista is being produced by Automobili Pininfarina, the separate division intended to move the famous brand into production of high-end electric vehicles. The whole group is owned by India’s Mahindra Group.

Each Anniversario will get a unique livery with combination of three colors: Sestriere white, Antonelliano grey and Pininfarina’s trademark Iconica blue. The car will also get what is being described as a new “Furiosa” package that brings a larger carbon-fiber front splitter and upgraded side blades and rear diffusers. The company claims that these bits work together to increase downforce, although it hasn’t released any figures. The Anniversario also gets new center-lock aluminum wheels—measuring 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear—which weigh 22 pounds less than the previous design. Buyers of the regular Battista will be able to add the Furiosa package and new wheels to their orders as well, at extra cost.

While hugely impressive, the Anniversario’s specs appear to be identical to thestandard car’s, with a carbon-fiber structure and a powertrain closely related to the one Croatian maker Rimac has designed for its own forthcoming hypercar. This means four electric motors capable of generating a combined maximum of 1900 horsepower and 1696 lb-ft of torque and a 120.0-kWh battery pack.

Pininfarina claims the Battista will be quicker than a current Formula 1 car over the 0-62-mph benchmark, claiming that the car will do the deed in under two seconds. It also claims the car will be able go from zero to 186 mph in under 12 seconds, which sounds remarkable, although Lotus promises that its forthcoming Evija EV hypercar will be doing that in under nine seconds. For reference, the Bugatti Chiron, rarely criticized for being sluggish, takes a yawning 13.6 seconds for the same increment.

Pininfarina says that the five Anniversario cars will be included in the total build of 150 Battistas, making it an even more limited edition of what will be a very rare car. When we spoke to CEO Michael Perschke last year, he told us that two thirds of the intended allocation to the U.S. was already sold, so if you do have $2.6 million and a corresponding desire for one of the world’s most exclusive EVs, then get in touch with the company.
