To celebrate the latest installment in the Fast and Furious movie franchise, Danish toymaker Lego is rolling out a convincing replica of the 1970 Dodge Charger R/T driven by main character Dominic Toretto–played by Vin Diesel. This 1:13-scale kit includes 1077 pieces and, because it’s part of Lego’s Technic line, has many moving parts.
Pop open the hood, and you’ll find a plastic brick version of the car’s 900-hp Hemi V-8 engine complete with working pistons. A double wishbone suspension underpins the Charger R/T and in the trunk a set of nitrous canisters add a little extra boost when needed. There’s even a wheelie bar hanging off the rear end so the Charger can be displayed in a nearly upright position after it’s built.
The menacing black Charger has made an appearance in four of the eight Fast and Furious movies and will be making a fifth appearance in the next installment–F9–which is set to hit theaters in April 2021. We know, we know . . . it’s an entire year away! Blame the COVID-19 pandemic for the movie’s delay. In the meantime, you can build Lego’s very detailed replica and count the days until the Fast cast lights up the screen once again with high-stakes stunts and intoxicating horsepower.
Lego will begin taking pre-orders for the set today via Lego.com, or buyers can wait until April 27 to get it from retail locations globally. In the meantime, check out the brand’s growing list of automotive kits, including a vintage Fiat 500, a Ford Mustang, a Volkswagen Camper Van, and many others.
