- GMC says that there are four roof panels and a front T-bar that get removed.

General Motors’ notoriously gas-guzzling Hummer is set to make a comeback in 2022 as an electric pickup and SUV, but other than that, we know very little about it so far. GM has claimed it will have 1000 horsepower and be capable of doing zero to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds, and now we also know that it’ll have removable roof panels. Yes, like a Jeep Wrangler.
The GMC Hummer SUT will come standard with the removable roof panels, although when asked about the availability on the SUV, GMC declined to comment. We also don’t know whether or not the electric Hummer’s roof will be offered in both hard- and softtop versions like the Jeep Wrangler. The four roof panels and front T-bar will be able to be removed manually by one person, GM spokeswoman Tara Kuhnen told Car and Driver, and there’s no connector over the top of the front and rear window.
The Hummer EV is expected to be offered with one, two, or three electric motors. One motor would be for a rear-drive model, and the other two layouts will be for two all-wheel-drive variants with some pretty serious acceleration. GMC claims that in its top form, the Hummer will have 1000 horsepower and produce 11,500 lb-ft of torque—although that number may be a bit misleading.
GMC will also offer multiple trims and configurations for the Hummer EV, including a work-truck configuration and a more capable off-road variant. Pricing should be around $70,000. We’ll find out much more about the GMC Hummer EV in the coming months.
