BMW has announced that the 2021 330e plug-in hybrid sedan has been EPA-rated at 75 MPGe and can travel on electric power alone for 22 miles. Additionally, the 330e xDrive all-wheel-drive models have also been rated at 67 MPGe and can travel up to 20 miles on the battery alone.
The 330e and 330e xDrive are powered by a 181-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter paired with an electric motor, which brings the powertrain’s total output to 288 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The 12.0-kWh lithium-ion battery, located beneath the sedan’s rear seats, allows for a 22-mile fully electric range on the 330e and 20-mile electric range on the xDrive model.
New for 2021 models, is XtraBoost, a feature available only in Sport mode that provides a 40-hp boost for up to 10 seconds when the pedal is fully depressed. The result is a claimed zero-to-60-mph sprint of 5.6 seconds in the 330e and 5.7 seconds in the 330e xDrive. In hybrid mode, the 330e can travel up to 68 mph on the battery alone, an increase of 19 mph over the previous model year, and in electric mode, it can reach speeds of 87 mph, up 12 mph.
Pricing for the 330e plug-in hybrid starts at $45,545, with the 330e xDrive starting at $47,545. Both are scheduled to arrive in dealerships in May. BMW now offers a 240-volt Level 2 home charging unit that can be professionally installed.
