Ahead of its official launch later this month, the all new Bajaj Dominar 250 has started arriving at dealerships
Ever since it was launched, Bajaj has been constantly experimenting with the brand Dominar. From promoting it as a much better alternative to the Royal Enfield Classic 350 via the Haathi Mat Paalo ads, to showcasing it as a sports tourer. Bajaj has tried to push the Dominar brand to the masses regularly. And the latest push, comes in the form of launching an all new engine powered Dominar.
Bajaj Dominar 250 will be a more affordable or cheaper alternative to the existing Dominar 400. Both bikes look the same, almost. Dominar 250 has started arriving at dealerships, and the first photos confirm that the Dominar 250 with D250 badge will be seen in new red colour option, which is not on offer with the D400 currently.

Apart from that, there is also the new low-cost swing-arm and slightly different alloys in the D250. Powering the Bajaj Dominar 250 is a BS6 single cylinder engine, which is borrowed from the recently launched KTM Duke 250 BS6. This is a 250 cc engine which claims to deliver 28 hp power and 24 Nm torque on board the KTM 250. It remains to be seen if the same power and torque figures are maintained on the D250 as well. Transmission is via a 6 speed gearbox.
With the launch of Dominar 250, Bajaj will have increased their offerings in the 250cc segment. They already had the KTM Duke 250, and the recently launched Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 and Vitpilen 250. With Dominar 250 it seems that Bajaj will use the Dominar brand to market motorcycles 250cc and above, and use the Pulsar brand to market motorcycles below 250 cc.
As per sources, price of Bajaj Dominar 250 is Rs 1.6 lakhs, ex-sh. On road Mumbai price is Rs 1.93 lakhs. These prices are not confirmed by the company. If these prices are true, then the price of Dominar 250 BS6 is about Rs 32k lesser than that of the Dominar 400 BS6.
Bajaj Dominar 400 was launched with the aim to sell about 10,000 units a month. But as it stands, Dominar sales are nowhere close to that figure. In the initial months, Dominar managed to register average sales of about 2,500 units. But that number has drastically declined in the recent past. Even the launch of updated Dominar with USD, more powerful engine, did not help boost sales. In Jan 2020, only 130 units of Dominar 400 were sold. With the launch of Dominar 250, Bajaj would be hoping to increase sales of the Dominar brand.
