Bajaj Dominar 250 First Official Teaser Video – Coming Soon

With the launch getting closer, Bajaj Auto has now revealed the first official teaser video of D250

The Bajaj Dominar 250 has started reaching showrooms across the country ahead of its official unveil that is scheduled on 20th of March. This will be the fourth quarter liter motorcycle from Bajaj Auto after the KTM Duke 250, Husqvarna Vitpilen 250 and Svartpilen 250.

The Bajaj Dominar 250 is aimed at making the premium Dominar brand accessible to more prospective customers in addition to improving the economies of scale of the 250 cc engine architecture. The latest Bajaj motorcycle will be positioned in a sweet spot of the Indian premium motorcycle segment and will lock horns with its siblings as well as Yamaha FZ25 and Suzuki Gixxer 250.

Visually, the Bajaj Dominar 250 is pretty much identical to the Dominar 400. Closer observation reveals a different swing arm (a cost-cutting measure), slightly different alloy wheels and smaller tyres at either end. The Dominar 250 is available in a bright red color option which is not available in the flagship varaint.

The LED headlamp, digital instrument console, the inverted telescopic front fork and monoshock rear suspension are all the same. The new Bajaj Dominar 250 employs front and rear disc brakes but it remains to be seen if it will offer dual-channel or single-channel ABS.

While the BS6-ready 250 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine will be borrowed from the KTM Duke, it is likely to receive the triple-spark treatment which is a Bajaj trademark. We also think the output figures will be comparatively modest in a bid to attain a touring-friendly character and better fuel economy. For reference, the motor makes a punchy 28 hp and 24 Nm of torque on board the Duke. Transmission will be a 6-speed unit.

The motorcycle is estimated to be priced at around INR 1.6 lakh (ex-showroom). At that price point, it will also compete with the entry level Royal Enfield models. If the prices are true, 250 cc variant is a good INR 30,000 cheaper than the existing Dominar 400 and that’s impressive considering that both motorcycles share a significant number of components.

Bajaj was hoping that Dominar will recreate in premium segment the success that the Pulsar brand has been enjoying in the compact displacement segment. However, the Dominar 400 hasn’t been meeting the company’s sales expectation. The two wheeler major will be hoping that the 250 cc variant will help bring in the numbers.

2019 was a tough year for the Indian two wheeler market but Bajaj Auto faired better than most other two wheeler OEMs. The company would be hoping to increase the momentum in the BS6 era.
