Bajaj Dominar 250 vs 400 Comparison – Specs, Price, Features

The Bajaj Dominar 250 carries an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 1.60 lakh (about Rs 30,000 cheaper than the Dominar 400)

After multiple spy shots and speculations, Bajaj Auto has finally launched the 250cc avatar of its popular flagship. The new Bajaj Dominar 250 is not an outright cost-cut version of the Dominar 400 and has a reasonably long list of equipment. Of course, the company had to make some shortcomings to justify its reduced pricing but to an untrained eye, the Dominar 250 is as desirable as its ‘400’ sibling.

The differences between either ‘sports tourer’ motorcycle mostly lie under the skin. Both products share their platform with KTM’s ‘250’ and ‘390’ range at Bajaj’s manufacturing facility in Chakan. Here is a brief Bajaj Dominar 250 vs 400 comparison with respect to specs, price and features:

Features, Styling & Equipment

Visually, the Bajaj Dominar 250 looks nearly identical to the ‘400’ with the full-LED headlamp, muscular body panels, split-instrument console (the ‘250’ misses out on gear-position indicator), dual seats and twin-exit exhaust. However, an expert can quickly notice the 250’s box-type swingarm in place of the 400’s cast-aluminium unit. Furthermore, the wheels and tyres of the Dominar 250 are noticeably skinnier.

Both motorcycles boast of USD front forks but the Dominar 400 has bigger 43mm units while the ‘250’ makes do with 37mm examples. The 400’s front disc has 20mm extra diameter compared to the 250’s 300mm rotor. The rear disc sizes are common at 230mm and both models are equipped with dual-channel ABS. The Bajaj Dominar 250 is also available in Canyon Red shade while the Dominar 400 comes in Aurora Green. Vine Black is common in either model.

Dimensions & Weight

Owning to the identical styling components, the Bajaj Dominar 250 and Dominar 400 share the same overall dimensions, wheelbase and ground clearance at 2156x836x1112mm, 1453mm and 157mm, respectively. However, the smaller engine returns a lower kerb weight of 180kg for the Dominar 250; lesser by 4kg.

Engine Specifications

Coming to the main difference between either model, the new Bajaj Dominar 250 employs a 249cc liquid-cooled DOHC single-cylinder engine that makes almost 27bhp and 24Nm of torque. On the other hand, the Dominar 400 makes roughly 40bhp and 35Nm from its 373cc liquid-cooled DOHC single-cylinder motor. Both engines come mated to a 6-speed transmission via a slipper clutch.

Pricing

As mentioned at the very beginning, the new Bajaj Dominar 250 is cheaper by around Rs 30,000 at Rs 1.60 lakh. The Dominar 400 was only recently updated to BS6 specifications and wears a price tag of Rs 1.91 lakh. Both figures are ex-showroom.
