Jeep is bringing back the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer nameplates for its new three-row SUV, and it’s previewing the new model with a concept that gives a look at its exterior and interior styling. Apart from having massive 24-inch wheels and loads of chrome trim along with a body-on-frame platform and an independent rear suspension, the Grand Wagoneer concept also has some intricate lighting elements. One of those is a cool light-up grille, which Ralph Gilles, FCA’s global head of design, shared on Instagram.

The Grand Wagoneer concept’s grille is essentially a slimmer, more modernized version of the seven-slot grille found on the popular Grand Cherokee. Above that, “Wagoneer” is scripted across the top, and the sleek headlights blend into the chrome grille. First, the “Wagoneer” script illuminates up top, and then the light flows down the seven slots on the grille followed by the headlights, mirror lights, and running lights.
Three rows of seats are standard on the Wagoneer, and if the concept’s elegant interior details make their way into production, comparisons to other luxury brands such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW won’t be difficult arguments to make. We also hope that this welcome lighting sequence on the front end makes its way to the production model, but we can’t be sure until we see it.
Production of the 2021 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will start next summer. The standard Wagoneer will start at around $60,000, and fully loaded Grand Wagoneers will reach above $100,000 when they arrive in dealers in mid-2021.
