  • Tesla CEO Elon Musk announces that its event called Battery Day, previously intended to be held in the spring, will now take place September 15 at the Fremont factory, Tesla’s headquarters in California.
  • The event will include a tour of the cell production system and is expected to be the occasion for news about more efficient electric vehicle technology.
  • Specifically, there’s reason to anticipate that Musk will announce a super-long-lasting one-million-mile battery.

After an initial plan to show off Tesla’s battery technology in May or June was thwarted by coronavirus-related shelter-in-place orders, it looks like Tesla’s Battery Day event will tentatively take place on September 15, according to CEO Elon Musk.

The CEO took to Twitter (as he does) to announce the new date and to confirm that the event will take place at the Fremont, California, factory. Like the company’s gathering to show off its chipset for Autopilot in April 2019, Battery Day will also be an investor event. Essentially, it will be a way to show those who have a large amount of cash wrapped up in Tesla that the company is putting that capital to good use. Tesla is likely to use the platform to show how its battery technology has evolved and where it stands tech-wise against its growing list of competitors in the EV space.

At the event, we expect to see Musk tout the efficiency of Tesla’s battery packs and for the company to talk about a long-lasting one-million-mile battery. In a recent impact report, the company compared its miles per kilowatt to competing vehicles and described vehicle with a battery that will last one million miles and how it would reduce the emissions per vehicle produced.

We also might learn about the latest Gigafactory location. Smart money is on Texas, but you never can tell with Tesla.
