How We'd Spec It: 2021 Audi RS6 Avant, the Wagon of Our Dreams

We had to pinch ourselves when Audi first announced that the high-performance RS6 Avant wagon was really, truly coming to the U.S. market. But now it’s definitely real, as the RS6 has appeared on the Audi USA configurator site. So we decided to spec our ideal version of this dream car.

There’s only one powertrain configuration available, and it’s a good one. A twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine puts out 591 horsepower and 590 pound feet of torque, and Quattro all-wheel-drive is standard. The starting price for this wagon-only model is just over six figures, but we didn’t stop there and added several options to the tally

Model We’d Pick

  • RS6 Avant TFSI Quattro Tiptronic ($109,995)

The RS6 comes generously equipped with standard features such as leather seats, a power tailgate, LED headlights and taillights, and a mean-looking exterior treatment that endows the already sleek A6 wagon body with the street presence befitting an RS model. It also has a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, and 21-inch wheels wrapped in summer performance tires.

Options We’d Choose

  • Nardo Gray paint ($0)
  • Cognac Brown leather interior ($0)
  • Executive package ($2500)
  • Black Optic package ($2450)
  • Driver Assistance package ($2250)
  • Sport exhaust ($1000)

Our RS6 is shy of fully loaded but has a nice selection of options. We chose the subtle Nardo Gray paint not only because it is a no-cost option but also because it looks great. The available Cognac brown interior color scheme also struck our fancy, and it required adding the Executive package that adds heated rear seats, more leather trim, a head-up display, and soft-close doors. The Driver Assistance package seemed like a good buy, as did the Black Optic package that adds attractive 22-inch wheels and some dark exterior trim. And of course we could not pass up the Sport exhaust, which should make the V-8 engine sound even more amazing.

The total rings up as $118,195. For as rare a proposition as the RS6 Avant is to Americans—the Mercedes-AMG E63 is the only other true high-performance wagon you can buy in the U.S.—that strikes us as a reasonable sum.
