Ford Moves Bronco Reveal Date That Originally Coincided with O.J. Simpson’s Birthday

  • Ford has decided to move the Bronco reveal to July 13 after it realized the original date of July 9 was OJ Simpson’s birthday.
  • Simpson famously led police on a low-speed chase through Los Angeles in his white Ford Bronco in 1994. He had been charged with two counts of murder.
  • Ford announced the new date via Twitter and said that the original July 9 date was purely coincidental.

After months of spy photos and leaks, Ford recently announced that the official day of the upcoming 2021 Bronco reveal would be July 9. Unfortunately, that also happens to be O.J. Simpson’s birthday. The automaker has now corrected course and the new reveal date will be July 13.

For those that might not be aware of Simpson’s history with the Bronco, on June 17, 1994 former football player and actor O.J. Simpson led police on a low-speed chase through the greater Los Angeles area in a white Ford Bronco. Simpson was charged with the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.

Almost immediately after the announcement, people on Twitter noted the date and Nicole Brown Simpson’s sister Tanya Brown told the Detroit Free Press, “Is that on purpose? My first reaction was, ‘are you kidding me? This is funny?’”

Now it seems Ford has decided that it would rather have the reveal of clearly one of its most important vehicles not be tainted by one of the most infamous chapters in the Bronco’s history. On Twitter, the automaker stated: “We are sensitive and respectful to some concerns raised previously about the date, which was purely coincidental.”
